 'CATHERINE THE GREAT'
JASON CLARKE JOINS HELEN MIRREN IN EPIC NEW TV SAGA
We haven't heard much about Sky's and HBO's new mini series on CATHERINE THE GREAT ever since Helen Mirren was announced as
Jason Clarke will be Prince Grigory Potemkin

Written by Elizabeth I's Nigel Williams the four part saga is set against the politically tumultuous and sexually charged court of Russian empress Catherine the Great who wielded supreme power throughout Russia for nearly half of the 18th century; strong minded, independent, brilliantly intelligent and sexually liberated!

CATHERINE THE GREAT will depict the end of her reign and her passionate affair with Grigory Potemkin (Clarke), a Russian military commander who became Catherine’s lover, favoured statesman and life long friend. Amid scandal, intrigue and immense conflict, they develop a unique and devoted relationship, overcoming their adversaries and together serving as the architects of modern-day Russia.

  1. Helen Mirren as Catherine the Great -- I'd watch that! I've only heard of Potemkin from the phrase "Potemkin Villages," false fronts to disguise poverty and misery.

    1. that is what he used to make her think the country in the south is flourishing.

  2. Catherine the Great was in fact of prussian origin, Germany. She was known for her many love affairs (Potemkin being the main lover).

I can't help thinking what will the Brits do about their own Queen when the time comes. Elizabeth married a charming, handsome prince, Phillip (of greek descent). Nevertheless, the royal family is very plain looking (and plain intellectually, but that's another matter). Only Diana stood out with her beauty, but she didn't like the Brits, only foreigners. Her lovers were a pakistani doctor and Dodi El Fayad the egyptian with whom she was found in the fatal car.
The last addition to the royal family, Harry's wife, is going to be Diana's big revenge on the royal family and on the british people (who made her life, through the paparazzi, quite a misery). Just wait and see.

    1. Yes, she was German who became a bigger Russian than Russians :) She did always hate Germans herself especially because crazy Peter loved them. One of her lovers was Serbian, by the way. And she always loved them young and handsome even when she was very old and very fat.

I always considered Diana a massive media manipulator and a spoilt sociopath, which most of her friends confirmed in their later interviews. Always loved Charles and Camila, can't wait for them to take over the throne. Kate and Will are nice too, Harry was always a brat whose media image had to be saved by marketing agencies in recent years. His choice of wife is hilarious but also very him in a way, an actress who has no respect or understanding for what royalty is and who considers her new life an endless catwalk, daft and superficial and very vain too.

  3. I guess I got lucky and immediately bonded with my stepsister. Love her more than my blood siblings, so no family trip bonding was needed there.

My mom LOVED Diana. Still does. I remember my mom watch her wedding, then sitting in our living room crying at the news of her death. She was ever so delighted when her sons married. She's commented that she feels like Diana was always a part of her family. I don't get it, but we all have our obsessions. I tried to find something with Princess Diana on it in London to bring back home for my mom, but didn't have much luck. I think I offended a shop keeper when I asked if they had anything with her on it. I don't really follow the royals, but I do like Duchess Catherine. She always looks polished but not overly glamorous, so she's relatable, I think. And her daughter is all kinds of adorable too.

    1. You has a stepsis? From momma or popa?

Most ladies love Diana, I'm just not that blinded :) My fave is Camila as she is natural and down to Earth, people absolutely adored her when she and Charles came visiting Serbia last year. She relaxes you the moment she speaks to you, extremely nice and simple and kind lady. Charles is also a very down to earth person.
