ReplyDeletedon't forget that Last Kingdom starts over there in May, so far the second season has been more fun than the first one, even though the kings still behave towards Uhtred like arselings

I think I'm most interested in Jamestown. I'd like to see how they portray that journey. Thanks, DEZ!
ReplyDeleteI'm most excited for Britannia since we haven't seen that period much on the telly
DeleteA nice list of shows. White Princess and a few others have my interest.
ReplyDeletePrincess starts as soon as this Sunday!
DeleteBlack Romeo and Juliet?
ReplyDeleteWhy do not they make a movie or series about Nelson Mandela, Shaka Zulu, or Martin Luther King, in which their role is played by white actors?
Please stop this "politically correct" race stupidity!
That is what I always say as well, some of these castings are purely ridiculous. Stay tune for a spotlight on it later today
DeleteThanks! I am so against sacrificing the historical or mythological faithfulness on the altar of political correctness. The same thing with putting blacks in places where they could not be in the events, we can find in the Beowulf-series (which without that too is a crap), the Thor movies (in which the Germanic God Heimdall is blcak), The beauty and the beast, the newest movie about King Arthur... I can enumerate so few movies, because years ago I quitted to watch hollywood movies because this race and gender propaganda, and the fact that they remake always the same movies, when it comes to history, instead of making new ones about other events... Maybe about events of the history, mythology or literature other peoples too. Not only Europe, but also Asia, Africa... But of course not with black people playing whites, white people playing blacks or Asians roles...
DeleteI did hear the rumours that BBC has actually been advised to tone down on their period set shows because they don't feature people of colour. As you can see they've made Achilles a black person in their upcoming Troy series. I don't like it, just as I don't like it when they choose wrong people for historical projects, like putting Matt Damon with his very modern American jaw into an Ancient China setting in Great Wall.
DeleteSometimes it is not a problem, having Gerard Butler playing an Egyptian deity or Joel Edgerton Ramses ain't so problematic because the pharaoh really was blonde and white skinned, and Ancient Egyptians weren't dark as they are today, they had blond hair as well and paler skin types. But sometimes, moviemakers really go too far with not matching actors with their roles.
