We're all British today, starting with the news coming from Starz who, as you know, have took over WHITE QUEEN series sequel from BBC and are doing WHITE PRINCESS second season on their own. Now they have the lead star! Jodie Comer (Doctor Foster) will lead the adaptation of Philippa Gregory's book following the War of Roses!

THE WHITE PRINCESS now follows the beautiful eldest daughter of Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville (played by Max Irons and Rebecca Ferguson in the original series) princess Elizabeth. She faces a conflict of loyalties between the red rose and the white. Forced into marriage with Henry VII, she must reconcile her slowly growing love for him with her loyalty to the House of York, and choose between her mother’s rebellion and her husband’s tyranny. Then she has to meet the Pretender, whose claim denies the House of Tudor itself.

ARE GETTING A SECOND SEASON!

After receiving tons of love from the British audience which await each Sunday with huge anticipation to see a new episode of ITV's THE DURRELLS series, it has been announced today that the drama will be getting a second season as well! Starring gorgeous Keeley Hawes the drama follows the Durrell family who back in 1935 decide to move from dreary Bournemouth to the sunshine of the Greek island of Corfu! It is an adaptation of Gerald Durrell's book My Family and Other Animals.

TO BE TURNED INTO TV SERIES

Now, here's something international: as 'Deadline' reports historical mystery novels MORBUS DEI by Bastian Zach and Matthias Bauer (known as writers of NORTHMEN A VIKING SAGA) will be turned into an English language TV series over in Germany by ZDF. 

In the books, translated into English in 2015, the story focuses on Johann and Elisabeth, who are threatened by a strange disease which endangers the whole of the Habsburg Empire at the beginning of the 18th century. In a fight for their love, they head from remote, snowy villages in the Alps through secret abbeys all the way to Inquisition run Vienna and the War of the Spanish Succession.

TO WORK AGAIN IN 'KIDNAPPING OF EDGARDO MORTARA'

It seems that after playing Big Friendly Giant, fresh Oscar winner Mark Rylance will work with Steven Spielberg for the third time after Bridge of Spies, in the big screen adaptation of David Kertzer's KIDNAP- PING OF EDGARDO MOR- TARA. He will be Pope Pius IX in the movie which recounts the story of a young Jewish boy in Bologna, Italy in 1858 who, having been secretly baptised, is forcibly taken from his family to be raised as a Christian. His parents’ struggle to free their son becomes part of a larger political battle that pits the Papacy against forces of democracy and Italian unification.

In the trailer department, check out the first one for Jason Bateman's and Nicole Kidman's THE FAMILY FANG  in which they play Baxter and Annie, who are scarred from an unconventional upbringing but return to their family home after an unlikely accident.

When their parents (Christopher Walken and Maryann Plunkett) — performance artists famous for elaborate public hoaxes — suddenly go missing under troubling circumstances, Baxter and Annie investigate. Unsure whether it’s foul play or just another elaborate ruse, nothing can prepare them for what they discover. The movie is out next month.

Many years ago I reported that Sony is preparing a big screen adaptation of Stacy Schiff's book CLEOPATRA: A LIFE with Angelina Jolie playing the lead role and now 'Deadline' reports that the project isn't dead and that David Scarpa has been brought to rewrite the script. At some point James Cameron was supposed to direct the story which will, unlike some other more glamorous projects, focus on the truth about Cleopatra as a leader and not just a sex symbol, since she was a mother, leader and an intellect who spoke five languages and whose upbringing also reflected her relationship with Rome.

Certainly the biggest movie event of the day, today, was the release of the first teaser trailer for ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY which takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope! As a spin-off, it goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know. Directed by Gareth Edwards, the movie, out December 16th, stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Riz Ahmed, Alan Tudyk, Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen and Wen Jiang!

Earlier last winter I told you that ITV is preparing new period set series and now the cast has been revealed for the eight part 1940's set series THE HALCYON! The cast of the luxury hotel staff series will include Steven Mackintosh, Olivia Williams, Matt Ryan, Kara Tointon, Alex Jennings, Hermione Corfield and Mark Benton.

The story of the series will reveal London life against the backdrop of WW2 and the impact it has on families, politics, relationships and work across every social strata. The story will unspool through the eyes of journalist Joe O’Hara visiting the bustling and glamorous five-star hotel! The series will be filled with music including a Beverly Knight performance.
