JOINS NEW 'DUNE' FILM?

White Queen will rule Arrakis.. or so it seems. According to 'Variety' Rebecca Ferguson will join Timothee Chalamet in big screen adaptation of Frank Herbert's cult sf classic DUNE to be helmed by Denis Villeneuve for Legendary.

DUNE, set in the distant future, follows Paul Atreides, whose family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, jurisdiction over Arrakis is contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship with nature, as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s reign. Chalamet would play Paul, but  Ferguson won't be Princess Irulan from the house of Corrino nor Fremen concubine Chani, but Paul's mother Lady Jessica!

 Daphne du Maurier into a TV movie. Unlike the famous Hitchcock's classic movie, this one will be true to the novel with the action being set in British Cornwall! The new television adaptation will be set in picturesque rural Cornwall, where a farmhand and his community is being terrorised by flocks of birds and seagulls shortly after the end of the Second World War. This 1952. novel by Maurier isn't the only one to get a recent adaptation, since earlier this year My Cousin Rachel scored love of moviegoers in cinemas around world with Rachel Weisz and Sam Claflin! Speaking of British series, second season of Victoria has been given August 27 airing date on ITV and January 14th on PBS in US.

I informed you last month that Legendary has bought movie rights on Frank Herbert's sf classic DUNE and now it got Denis Villeneuve for director! He already helmed Arrival sf movie this year and new Blade Runner.

Planned as a movie franchise DUNE is set in the far future with humanity, having spread beyond Earth to countless other worlds, now ruled over by competing feudal families who control access to a drug called Melange. Known popularly as “spice,” the drug gives its users heightened consciousness and an extended lifespan at the cost of crippling addiction and fatal withdrawal. Spice, use of which makes interstellar travel possible, is found only on the desert planet of Arrakis or Dune ruled by the family of Atreides and as such is the most valuable commodity in the galaxy.

 'LOST CITY OF Z' TEASER

The first teaser trailer has been released today for the adaptation of David Grann's book THE LOST CITY OF Z which describes real events, about British explorer Percy Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam) who made several attempts to find an ancient lost city in the Amazon and finally disappeared in 1925 along with his son in the search for the city. Beside Charlie Hunnam as Colonel Fawcett, the movie also stars Robert Pattinson as his fellow explorer Henry Costin and Sienna Miller as his wife Nina Fawcett! Angus MacFadyen and Tom Holland are also in the cast in the Brad Pitt produced movie which is scheduled to find its way into cinemas around the world some time next April.

'THE CURRENT WAR' MOVIE ON THOMAS EDISON

It is official, people, Spiderman has joined Alfonso Gomez Rejon directed drama THE CURRENT WAR! Young Tom Holland will star in the movie about the battle between George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) and his rival Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) to create a sustainable electricity system and sell it in the U.S.A. With Katherine Waterston joining as Westinghouse’s wife Marguerite Erskine, and Nicholas Hoult as Serbian genius Nikola Tesla, Tom Holland will be Samuel Insull, Edison's first assistant! 

THE CURRENT WAR takes place in the late 1880s and revolves around the two scientists and their battle over the supply of electricity. Edison championed the use of a direct current for electric power distribution over an alternating current, which was backed by Westinghouse Electric and a host of European companies.

EDDIE REDMAYNE IN RIVAL FILM 'LAST DAYS OF NIGHT'

It is interesting that another movie on the subject is being shot as well next year. As 'Deadline' reports THE LAST DAYS OF NIGHT will be an adaptation of Graham Moore book with Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne playing famed lawyer Paul Cravath, who was tasked with defending Westinghouse after Edison won the race to the patent office and sued his rival for an unheard of sum of $1 billion. As you know Edison was an evil and arrogant man who stole a lot of ideas from Tesla and was an enemy with him as well!
