Ladies rejoice: the latest Brit to join the thespian cast of Thomas Edison movie THE CURRENT WAR is Matthew MacFadyen!

In the film that, set in the late 1880's explains the legendary rivalry between two famous scientists Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse and the race to create a marketable and sustainable electricity system, Benedict Cumberbatch will appear as Thomas Edison alongside Michael Shannon’s George Westinghouse. To start shooting next week, the movie will also see Nicholas Hoult playing legendary Serbian genius Nikola Tesla from whom Edison stole a lot of ideas, with Tom Holland, Typence Middleton and Sienna Miller also in the  cast!

'THE CURRENT WAR' MOVIE ON THOMAS EDISON

It is official, people, Spiderman has joined Alfonso Gomez Rejon directed drama THE CURRENT WAR! Young Tom Holland will star in the movie about the battle between George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) and his rival Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) to create a sustainable electricity system and sell it in the U.S.A. With Katherine Waterston joining as Westinghouse’s wife Marguerite Erskine, and Nicholas Hoult as Serbian genius Nikola Tesla, Tom Holland will be Samuel Insull, Edison's first assistant! 

THE CURRENT WAR takes place in the late 1880s and revolves around the two scientists and their battle over the supply of electricity. Edison championed the use of a direct current for electric power distribution over an alternating current, which was backed by Westinghouse Electric and a host of European companies.

EDDIE REDMAYNE IN RIVAL FILM 'LAST DAYS OF NIGHT'

It is interesting that another movie on the subject is being shot as well next year. As 'Deadline' reports THE LAST DAYS OF NIGHT will be an adaptation of Graham Moore book with Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne playing famed lawyer Paul Cravath, who was tasked with defending Westinghouse after Edison won the race to the patent office and sued his rival for an unheard of sum of $1 billion. As you know Edison was an evil and arrogant man who stole a lot of ideas from Tesla and was an enemy with him as well!

Lovely news coming from 'The Wrap' today: charming young Brit Nicholas Hoult will apparently take the role of legendary Serbian genius and scientist Nikola Tesla in THE CURRENT WAR a movie about Thomas Edison played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

THE CURRENT WAR takes place in the late 1880s and revolves around power titans Edison and George Westinghouse’s (Michael Shannon) battle over the supply of electricity. Edison championed the use of a direct current for electric power distribution over an alternating current, which was backed by several European companies and Westinghouse Electric. Although a great scientist, Edison was not a good man, and Tesla, as an honourable and hard working man, later on opposed him often after being mistreated many times by jealous Edison.

'KRYPTON' SF SERIES 

CAMERON CUFFE TO PLAY SUPERMAN'S GRANDFATHER
In TV news today, the lead actor has been found for SyFy's sf series KRYPTON: young Cameron Cuffe will play Superman's grandfather in the series set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet. As 'Deadline' reports, it follows Superman’s grandfather Seg-El, whose House of El was ostracised and shamed, as he fights to redeem his family’s honour and save his beloved world from chaos. Destined to be the ancestor of Jor-El (future father of Superman) and Kal-El (the future Superman), Seg-El is the scion of the once prosperous El family and is blessed with an intuitive brilliance for all things technical. He now is living in Krypton’s lowest caste after his family was stripped of its rank. Georgina Campbell will play Lyta Zod.

MEDICI: MASTERS OF FLORENCE 

 OPENING SONG IS OUT!

Meanwhile, back in Europe, Italian national broadcaster RAI has released late last night the official video for 'Renaissance' from Skunk Anansie's singer Skin which will serve as the opening song of their lavish new period set epic series MEDICI: MASTERS OF FLORENCE which starts airing over there on October 17th and later on around the world starring Richard Madden as the prince of the famous clan or rulers who takes over the family business and gets into war against its enemies after his father, played by Dustin Hoffman, dies under suspicious circumstances.
