In the film, Hans Christian Andersen, a socially awkward outsider, moves to Copenhagen with an impossible dream of conquering the city’s vibrant cultural life and becoming a famous artist. In a colourful world of actors, playwrights and benefactors, Hans Christian fights to gain recognition, acceptance, and love. The production should start towards the end of the year in Denmark.
Nikolaj Arcel is preparing an epic movie biopic on famous fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen titled MY FAIRYTALE LIFE. Hans Christian Andersen, a socially awkward nobody, moves to Copenhagen with dreams of conquering Denmark’s cultural elite and becoming a famous artist. In a colourful and merciless world of actors, playwrights, and snobbish benefactors, Christian fiercely fights to get the recognition and love he so desperately craves. But his own delusions of grandeur may turn out to be his greatest weakness; the last thing he wants is to be known as a children’s fairytale writer.
In a whole slate of fairy tale movies being produced in Russia, there is also a big screen adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale THE TINDERBOX titled in Russia as OGNIVO (Огниво). Directed by Alexander Voitinsky who also helmed another upcoming fairy tale adventure The Wish of the Fairy Fish, it will also be made into a TV series for Russian national broadcaster. The film stars Roman Evdokimov, Irina Starshenbaum, Antonina Boyko, Vitaly Khaev, Mikhail Trukhin, Yan Tsapnik and Sergey Marin. Filming took place in the Republic of Karelia, St.
Petersburg, as well as in the Novgorod region on the locations of such
historical sites as the Novgorod Kremlin, the Vitoslavlitsy
Museum-Reserve and the Znamensky Compound. The film is out October 24th in domestic cinemas in Russia and then around Europe.

The musical fantasy will feature original music from Wicked's Stephen
Schwartz and will, as 'Deadline' reports, follow Andersen who as a
young man gets trapped in a world of his own imagination. As he searches
for a way back to reality, he comes face-to-face with characters from
his own fairy tales, nearly all of whom try to trap him in their world
forever.The project is planned as a potential musical movie franchise.
Life of Pi's David Magee is penning the script! The studio apparently
paid a seven digit sum for the pitch.
