SOCIAL EXPERIMENTS IN TRAILERS FOR 'THE SQUARE' WITH ELISABETH MOSS, DOMINIC WEST, CLAES BANG, 'REALIVE' SF MOVIE WITH TOM HUGHES

Two indie movies for you today, with rather interesting trailers, starting with THE SQUARE which should arrive into cinemas March
The movie has won this year's Palme d'Or at Cannes
next year starring Elisabeth Moss and Dominic West! Christian (Claes Bang) is the respected curator of a contemporary art museum, a divorced but devoted father of two who drives an electric car and supports good causes. His next show is THE SQUARE an installation which invites passers by to altruism, reminding them of their role as responsible fellow human beings. But sometimes, it is difficult to live up to your own ideals: Christian's foolish response to the theft of his phone drags him into shameful situations. Meanwhile, the museum's PR agency has created an unexpected campaign for  THE SQUARE. The response is overblown and sends Christian, as well as the museum, into an existential crisis.

There is also a trailer and a new poster for science fiction drama REALIVE which starts its cinematic life from Spain next January starring Victoria's Tom Hughes as  Marc who is diagnosed with a disease and is given one year left to live. Unable to accept his own end, he decides to freeze his body. Sixty years later, in the year 2084, he becomes the first man to be revived in history. It is then he discovers that the love of his life, Naomi (Oona Chaplin), has accompanied him this entire time in a way that he'd never expected.

ELISABETH MOSS TO PLAY TYPHOID MARY FOR BBC AMERICA
BBC America is to produce a small screen adaptation of Mary Beth Keane's novel FEVER into a period set mini series starring Elisabeth Moss! It tells the story of the first known healthy carrier of typhoid fever who became known as “Typhoid Mary” as she spread typhoid across the burgeoning metropolis of early twentieth century New York.
DEZZY'S HISTORY LESSON

Typhoid Mary  was an immigrant in turn of the century New York, she was stubborn and in fierce denial of any wrongdoing until her death where she lived out her days imprisoned on an island just off of the Bronx! She carried typhoid in herself spreading the deadly disease around her since she worked as a cook, but she was herself immune to it. She was forcibly isolated a few times, and in the end spent over three decades locked up. In every new family and kitchen she worked in as a cook outbreaks of typhoid would follow. She directly killed three people and contaminated more than 20.

'LORE' HORROR SERIES

Staying to the grim genre today, Amazon has, meanwhile, found their lead star for new horror fantasy anthology series LORE. Former UFC fighter Cathal Pendred will lead the series which recounts true stories of frightening and paranormal occurrences. As 'Deadline' reports, he will play Michael Cleary, a real-life character from Irish folklore in the horror anthology series. A cooper who makes barrels for a local creamery, Michael is married to the younger Bridget. When Bridget starts making more money than he does, and starts questioning his decisions, Michael is convinced that his loving wife has been replaced by a changeling — and he will do anything to prove himself right.

HULU AND BBC 'HARD SUN' PRE APOCALYPTIC CRIME SERIES WITH JIM STURGESS! ALEXIS BLEDEL JOINS JOSEPH FIENNES, ELISABETH MOSS IN 'HANDMAID'S TALE' SF SERIES

News coming from Hulu today for you, beginning with the newly announced pre–apocalyptic crime drama HARD SUN which they will produce in six episodes together with BBC!

Set in contemporary London, it centres on detectives Robert Hicks (Jim Sturgess) and Elaine Renko (Agyness Deyn), partners and enemies who seek to enforce the law and protect their loved ones in a world that every day slips closer to certain destruction. Hicks is a family man and a great, committed officer. He’s also profoundly corrupt. Renko is a difficult and damaged, but utterly incorruptible officer. Thus, the two cops stand on different ends of the social and moral spectrum and also seriously distrust one other – and for good reason. But they must somehow learn to work together if they’re going to survive until the end of the world.

ALEXIS BLEDEL JOINS JOSEPH FIENNES IN THE CAST
Hulu has also cast Gilmore Girls star Alexis Bledel for their April 26th dystopian sf series THE HANDMAID'S TALE where she will play Ofglen, a pious rule follower, loyal to the oppressive Gilead system, who turns out to be daring and subversive.

The adaptation of Margaret Atwood novel is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what formerly was part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism regime that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the  Commander’s (Joseph Fiennes) household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world.

In TV news this Saturday, SyFy has announced that they're developing new sf series based on THE WOODS comic book to be produced and helmed by San Andreas director Brad Peyton!
THE WOODS is set in Wisconsin where an entire high school campus, including the 300 students, teachers, parents and workers who happened to be there at the time, vanishes without a trace and reappears in the middle of the thick woods on the moon of a distant planet. Now their normal lives have suddenly and dramatically changed as they must survive the eerie and dangerous environment while desperately trying to find a way to get back home.

Meanwhile, Hulu has released first pictures from their upcoming new series A HANDMAID'S TALE based on Margaret Atwood's novel which will air next April starring Elisabeth Moss,  Joseph Fiennes and Yvonne Strahovski!

SF MONDAY: ELISABETH MOSS TO LEAD 'THE HANDMAID'S TALE' TV SERIES REMAKE AT HULU! AMAZON TO ADAPT 'THE BOOK OF STRANGE THINGS' SF NOVEL INTO SERIES

Probably the main TV news coming to us this weekend was that Hulu will do a remake of classic series THE HANDMAID'S TALE based on Margaret Atwood's book with Elisabeth Moss taking the lead role!

It is set in the dystopian Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted religious fundamentalism that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world. In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, Offred navigates between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead — with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

'STRANGE NEW THINGS
TO BECOME SF TV SERIES
Speaking of sf, Amazon will turn Michel Faber's critically renowned book THE BOOK OF STRANGE NEW THINGS into a 10 episode series to be helmed by Kevin Macdonald with music from Brian Eno!  The story revolves around Peter Leigh, an English pastor who embarks on the journey of a lifetime into deep space that takes him light years away from his beloved wife, Bea. As' Deadline' reports, 'while the project’s scale is believed to be epic, described as “Heart Of Darkness in space, at its centre is a heart-wrenching love story of a husband and wife with the universe between them'.
