Not much to end the week with, people, just trailers and posters for two new drama movies coming straight from the United Kingdom. The first one a mix of comedy and drama THE PARTY both directed and written by Sally Potter in her first new film in almost five years. Starring Patricia Clarkson, Emily Mortimer, Cillian Murphy, Timothy Spall, Kristin Scott Thomas THE PARTY is actually a comedy wrapped around a tragedy. It starts as a celebration and ends with blood on the floor. The movie should hit British cinemas October 13th!

Poignantly, this is John Hurt's last movie

The first trailer and poster have also been released for British drama THAT GOOD NIGHT which already did its round around movie festivals this summer but does not yet have a cinematic release date. Starring John Hurt (in his last movie before he died this January), Max Brown, Charles Dance, it follows Ralph (John Hurt), a once famous screenwriter, who is in his seventies and terminally ill. He has two final missions: to be reconciled to his son, Michael (Max Brown), and, secretly, to ensure he is not a burden to his wife, Anna (Sofia Helin), as he goes "into that good night".

Believe it or not, dame Judi Dench will play Queen Victoria again after  MRS. BROWN! She will play her in Stephen Frears' BBC Films' movie VICTORIA AND ABDUL, the true story of an unexpected friendship in the later years of her dark and violent rule. When Abdul Karim, a young clerk, travels from India to participate in the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, he is surprised to find favour with the Queen herself. As the Queen questions the constrictions of her long-held position, the two forge an unlikely and devoted alliance with a loyalty to one another that her household and inner circle all attempt to destroy. Meanwhile, over at CW they've continuing casting for the fourth season of their REIGN epic series about Mary Queen of Scots which will, now, be set on three courts, the one in Scotland, Elizabeth's in London and the one in France. I've told you that one of the new male roles will be the role of lord Narcisse's (Craig Parker) son and it just went to Steven Lund. He will be Luc, a sexy, highborn rogue who is also a plain speaking realist. He’s a good guy who happens to have a morally compromised and very powerful father: Lord Stephan Narcisse. But he is his own man, eyeing his own future, even as his father pressures him to make lasting and permanent inroads with the French royal family. Specifically, Narcisse wants his son at Princess Claude’s (Rose Williams) side. His arrival will complicate Claude’s life in ways she could never have imagined!

We're all World War 2 today, people, starting with the news on THEIR FINEST HOUR AND A HALF BBC Films project which is currently eyeing Sam Claflin and Lily James for the lead roles! The Lone Scherfig helmed big screen adaptation of Lissa Evans novel will revolve around a British movie crew who try to boost people's morale after the infamous London Blitz devastated the area during World War II.

Only a few weeks ago I announced the work on the remake of British 70's sitcom DAD'S ARMY and now, with the movie production already under way, we have the first photos with the stellar cast which includes   Catherine Zeta Jones, Bill Nighy, Michael Gambon and Toby Jones! The hilarious comedy follows a provincial British Home Guard in 1944 as they ready themselves to invade France at the height of   World War II. As they spend their days, mostly doing nothing productive, their laziness is interrupted by the arrival of the sassy and mysterious female journalist into their town!

'FREE FIRE' FINDS STELLAR CAST

Speaking of fights and the 70s, you will see those in Ben Wheatley's FREE FIRE movie which has rounded up a rather stellar cast lead by currently the biggest epic star Luke Evans (DRACULA UNTOLD, HOBBIT, CROW) alongside Olivia Wilde, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy! The story is set in 1978 Boston, following a woman named Justine (Olivia Wilde) who has set up a meeting between two Irishmen (Cillian Murphy and Michael Smiley) and a gang lead by Luke Evans and Armie Hammer for an arms deal. When shots are fired before the deal is made, the meeting turns into a deadly game of survival.

Ben Wheatley is currently finishing another 70's movie HIGH RISE which also stars Luke Evans next to a starstudded ensemble cast including Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons and James Purefoy!
