FIRST POSTER RELEASED
Your treat for today is the first poster for a very star studded World War II drama THE GUINEA PIG CLUB a Roger Donaldson directed movie about a maverick war surgeon boasting a stellar cast that includes Richard E.Grant, Sam Neill and Jeremy Irvine. It tells the uplifting and heroic
true story of maverick New Zealand surgeon Archie McIndoe (Richard E. Grant), who, at the height of World War II, defied the British establishment with his radical methods aimed at healing severely burned bodies, and more importantly the tortured souls, of Britain's heroic Royal Air Force pilots. In so doing, he risked his career, reputation and marriage.
The movie is currently in preproduction |
The Guinea Pig Club established in 1941, was a social club and mutual
support network for British and allied aircrew injured during World War
II. Its membership was made up of patients of Archibald McIndoe at Queen
Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead,
Sussex, who had undergone
experimental reconstructive plastic surgery, including facial
reconstruction, generally after receiving burns injuries in aircraft.
Sixteen members of it wrote books about their experiences.

How interesting!! I just finished a book about an RAF pilot. I hope the doctor got the praise he deserved instead of a tainted reputation and broken marriage.
ReplyDeleteHe did, so many people wrote books about him, many satisfied patients.
DeleteSounds like an incredible man. I'm sure some of his experimental procedures helped to pioneer the advancements that we see in plastic surgery today. Too bad it cost him his marriage though :(
ReplyDeleteDoctors are seldom home, my own plastic surgeon sometimes does not go home for two or three days and sleeps on her clinic.
