The epic tale of love, war and revolution, depicts the immense scope
of the Russian Revolution through the story of the gifted physician and
poet, Zhivago, the revolutionary, Strelnikov, and Lara, the passionate
woman they both love. Caught up in the overwhelming events of politics
and war that will eventually destroy him and millions of others, Zhivago
clings to the private world of family life and love, embodied by the
magical Lara. They will be looking for a broadcaster at this month's Mip
in Cannes.
NEW EPIC TV SERIES
ON EMPRESS SISI OF AUSTRIA!
Meanwhile, Picture Perfect Federation and Federation Entertainment have bought rights on Allison Pataki’s novels The
Accidental Empress and Sisi: Empress on Her Own on Europe's beloved Empress Elisabeth of Austria and will turn them into historical series SISI. Spanning from 1853 up until the start of WWI it will offer a captivating glimpse into the bedrooms and staterooms of one of history’s most intriguing eras and Europe’s most powerful royal family. The story which was already turned into Germany's most popular period set saga ever decades ago, will now get an international adaptation following the girl who was unexpectedly thrust into the centre of Europe’s most treacherous imperial court at the age of 15 when she unwittingly stole the heart of her sister’s fiancé, Emperor Franz Joseph. It will be a series about a woman ahead of her time who indelibly made her mark with dignity and grace!
Both Pataki's novels on Sisi were bestsellers |
Dr. Jivago series is something to be looking forward to. A popular novel, a great movie, and timeless music (by Maurice Bejarre).
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about the leading actors of the love triangle.
You mean the music from the original movie? That movie was, interestingly enough, shot in my Vojvodina. I remember that they were shooting in winter, but needed a spring setting so they planted thousands of imported daffodils just for that scene.
DeleteI've seen the movie of "Dr Zhivago" several times but could never manage to plow through the book. Too many foot-long Russian names and a cast of thousands. I'd watch a mini-series though!
ReplyDeleteBut I thought Hirst was joining Scorsese to do a miniseries on roman emperors? I still remember the Kiera Knightley version. I’m dying to see the Hirst treatment of Zhivago.
DeleteEmpress Sissi is my favorite historical character. I want to see that too
I read the book the summer before my last year in High School when I was in a very Russian mood and read both Zhivago and the four books of Brother Karamazov which I also got my High School degree on.

Hirst has had so many projects, but not all of them get turned into real shows, sadly. They had a Sisi TV series a few years ago in Germany, there are even whole episodes at German Period Drama channel at YouTube with English subs, but that series is sadly geoblocked.
A shame the Scorses project didn't get green light. Is that German series on Sissi the co-production with RAI? I saw it in Italian. They say they had two versions, one in German, and the Italian with lots of romantic scenes.
DeleteBoth of these sound so good! Dr. Zhivago especially, more so because I really loved The Tudors and hope this one draws me in just as quickly.
ReplyDeleteI hope they find a buyer at Mip next week!
