'THE WANDERING EARTH'
CHINA'S FIRST FULL SCALE INTERSTELLAR SPECTACULAR!
Although we've just left New Year's Eve behind us, the Chinese one is just around the corner and it will bring us the premiere of China's most ambitious
movie this year, science fiction spectacle THE WANDERING EARTH
The movie storms into Chinese cinemas February 5th |
With the story based on Hugo Award winning novelist Cixin Liu's novel
of the same name, the $50 million Frant Gwo directed science fiction
epic follows a fight to save human race after the humanity has moved
into underground cities due to sun dying out and new ice age decimating
the earth. To save the world, the scientists prepare to move Earth out
of the solar system. The engineers plan to push Earth into an
exaggerated orbit, build vast cities under the planetary surface, and
escape the doomed system before the Sun expands.
China too?!! It seems to have undergone very dramatic changes, as 'escapism' is not favoured by communism. In the communist world everything is OK; no need to escape to religion or sci-fiction.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, we live in a global world, and chinese people are not different from the people of the west in that sci-fi appeals to the inner child in them, to their fears, and their imagination.
SF seems to be quite a strong genre this year in China. You can expect more of this genre from them in the near future. I think this one suits communism as it celebrates the Chinese as the saviours of the world, and it is nice to see that change, as we're usually bombarded with Americans as such even though we all know they're the main problem for world peace and have always been.
DeletePushing Earth out of the solar system. Nothing could possibly go wrong with that. At what point do we just stop procreating and just let the planet die out?
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing only after we find a new planet to ruin!
