1ST 'MY COUSIN RACHEL' PHOTOS
We are continuing our weekend of photo reports from the sets of upcoming period set drama movies, today, with new pictures taken from the production of Roger Michell's (Notting Hill) big screen adaptation of MY COUSIN RACHEL, the famous Daphne Du Maurier classic novel! The first photos from the sets in England and Italy reveal a glimpse of what you may expect to see from the costumes, gowns, hats and suits, when cousin Rachel's comes a knocking to your cinema sometime next year.
A GOTHIC MYSTERY
With one of the most delightful casts we've seen in a long time lead by Rachel Weisz, Sam Claflin, Iain Glen and Holliday Grainger, this gothic romance will see our dearest Samwise playing a young Englishman called Philip who inherits his guardian's estate and manor in Cornwall. Philip soon finds himself falling for his mysterious, beautiful and beguiling cousin Rachel (yes, Rachel Weisz plays her), but his feelings are complicated when evidence suggests that she murdered Philip's guardian and is only showing an interest in Philip to steal his inheritance.

DID YOU KNOW?
Probably the most famous adaptation of the mistress of suspense Daphne Du Maurier's book (whose other famous books include Rebecca and Jamaica Inn, which both have their own adaptations) was the one from 1952 starring Richard Burton and Olivia de Havilland! Although Daphne got the title of Dame from the British Queen in the 60's, for her work, she did not tell about it to her children who had to learn about it from the newspapers :) She thought of acting ill and not going over to receive the honour from Her Majesty.
I'm a sucker for a good mystery.
ReplyDeletethe suspense is killing us!
DeleteBut that Sam Claflin guy has zero charisma. Just saying.
Deleteyou know I will now wash your mouth with soap, right?
DeleteI was pretty sure that was Jorah Mormont
ReplyDeletenever heard of him, but knowing you, Adam, I bet it is something from GOT or HARRY PLOPPER :)
DeleteHarry Who? I bet there will be a sequel, prequel or reboot.
Deleteit will be a rehoot in any case
DeleteGothic, mystery, period piece-I'm sold!! I've not read any of her books, but I vaguely remember seeing them on my grans bookshelf. It's so neat that she didn't really want to go to the palace to receive her title. Sounds like a woman of good sense to me. Can you imagine, though, finding out your mother was titled by reading a newspaper. It could be worse, one could find out she was a stripper :0)
ReplyDeleteAnd they will have a scene in which they ride horses on the Cornish beach... I already feel dizzy :)
DeleteThe kids actually made her go in the end, telling her that it will be a nice story for her future grandchildren, but she didn't stay long at the palace, she just took the honour and left minutes after secretly :) I swear I could never bow to the queen nor any other monarch, unless it's Judi Dench or Meryl Streep... the rest is just offensive
I really want to see this. Keep forgetting to buy the damn book. I'm a sucker for titles.
ReplyDeleteI would not be surprised if the sales of the book go high after this post :) there was a whole buzz about our post at Facebook yesterday
DeleteOh, Sam. Why you always looking so good? :D
ReplyDeleteDefinitely will watch this.
he is what the movie world needed for a long time!
DeleteDid I mention that Sam Claflin has been my most recent Hollywood crush?? That said, this is a great post! ♡ lol
ReplyDeletehe's been our crush for a decade now
DeleteWhy didnt you tell me?! I didn't discover him until The Hunger Games.
DeleteHe's been a most frequent guest here for like five or seven years at least :) I always discover them before the rest of the world
DeleteDaphne Du Maurier's books were my first adult reading experience. What a storyteller!
ReplyDeleteThe costumes in this production are fabulous, DEZ!
hope we get more pics and a trailer sometime this year
Deleteanything mysterious, gothic and good looking like this will certainly be on my list :)
