CBS has released the first, rather long, trailer for their upcoming new TV series SUPERGIRL which will see young Melissa Benoist playing the super heroine on  Monday nights this November! She plays the Kryptonian refugee Kara Zor-El, who decides to embrace her powers after a lifetime of hiding on earth under the name Kara Danvers. Kara's civilian life includes working for the demanding Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) at the media conglomerate CatCo along with photographer Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks). The journey for Kara to become SUPERGIRL will see her cross paths with Toyman (Jeremy Jordan), the alien convict Vartox (Owain Yeoman) and secretive government agent Hank Henshaw (David Harewood).

ITV ORDERS 'JERICHO'

And I have a bunch of TV news coming from UK, starting with ITV ordering JERICHO historical series! Set in the 1870s, it will focus on the shantytown of Jericho, home to a community that will live, thrive and die in the shadow of the viaduct they’ve been brought together to build. Pioneers, settlers and outcasts, they include people with secrets to hide and those looking to start again. One of the central characters is Annie Quaintain (Jessica Raine), who refuses to let tragedy define her. After being disgraced by her husband, she arrives in JERICHO with her two children; there she meets Ralph Coates (Clarke Peters), a self-styled railway agent skilled at reading people. She also encounters Johnny Jackson (Hans Matheson), also new to Jericho.
BBC TO ADAPT 'PLACE OF GREATER SAFETY' INTO EPIC SERIES
Meanwhile, after rather bland and uninspired WOLF HALL BBC is going to adapt Hilary Mantel's A PLACE OF GREATER SAFETY too into TV series. RIPPER STREET creator Richard Warlow will adapt the 18th century story based on Georges Danton, Camille Desmoulins and Maximilien Robespierre's involvement in the French Revolution.

You can also check out the first trailer for Nancy Meyer's new comedy THE INTERN which is out this September with Robert De Niro playing a 70-year-old widower who has discovered that retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Anne Hathaway.

PREHISTORIC SERIES CASTS HAL OZSAN AND JOHNNY WARD

In today's casting news one of the historical series we're anxiously awaiting THE CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR prehistoric saga at Lifetime has found two gents who will join Millie Brady in the series based on Jean M. Auel’s series of best-selling novels in which the story takes place at a time in prehistory more than 25,000 years ago when Neanderthals shared the planet with the first early modern humans and a band of cave dwellers adopts blond and blue-eyed Ayla (Millie Brady), a child of the “Others.” As Ayla matures into a young woman of spirit and courage, she must fight for survival against the jealous bigotry of Broud, who one day will be clan leader. Hal Ozsan (THE BLACKLIST) has been cast as Brun, the leader of his Clan, while Johnny Ward will be Broud, the son of Brun.

Meanwhile, over at CBS, as 'Deadline' reports, Laura Benanti from NASHVILLE has joined SUPERGIRL show in which she will portray Alura Zor-El, the birth mother of Kara (Melissa Benoist). A strong noblewoman, Alura sends Kara to Earth to escape Krypton’s destruction. Her wisdom and guidance echoes across space and time, proving invaluable on Kara’s journey toward becoming Supergirl.The series will focus on SUPERGIRL who has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman, but now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

The main photo treat today is the first picture of Jason Momoa as Aquaman in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE which arrives March next year and in which he will appear first before getting his own movie in 2018. The king of the seven seas will also appear in JUSTICE LEAGUE films.

In the main television news today, CBS has found the young actress who will take the lead role in their SUPERGIRL series! GLEE's Melissa Benoist has got the job! The new show will be produced by Greg Berlanti, who is currently producing ARROW and THE FLASH at CW. The show will centre on Kara Zor-El. Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. 

'APOCALYPSE SLOUGH' CASTS

In news coming over from Great Britain Sky1 has teamed up with American NBC to produce new sf comedy drama APOCALYPSE SLOUGH which will revolve around a group of seemingly unconnected characters, as their lives start to intersect when it is reported that a large eight mile wide comet will collide with Earth. Together, they hunker beneath the town of Slough, about 20 miles west of London, to watch the end of the world on TV.
Rob Lowe will lead the cast as Father Jude, who holds the position of Devil’s Advocate in the Vatican. He is a charismatic, irreverent, rebellious but also deeply moral man who is passionate about his faith but doesn’t feel the need to constantly prove it. Jenna Fischer (The Office) will appear as mild mannered Rhonda, sent to prison in New Mexico for a crime she did not commit. Her wish is to be reunited with her family. 'Will and Grace' star Megan Mullally is Leanne, a white supremacist who takes Rhonda under her wing. Matthew Baynton will feature as bank manager Jamie, inspired by the impending apocalypse to find his wife - who disappeared in mysterious circumstances seven years ago. Pauline Quirke will play Jamie's mother Paula, and Joel Fry is confirmed as Jamie's hedonistic best friend Dave. Paterson Joseph is cast as General Gaines, who briefs the United States president on high-level military matters.
