FOR WAR BETWEEN LAND AND SEA SF SERIES

The series starts this December on BBC One

BBC and Disney Plus have released a first trailer for their new five episode mini series THE WAR BETWEEN THE LAND AND THE SEA, a sf spin off of Dr. Who some five months ago, but now it has finally been revealed that the series will have a two episode premiere on BBC One December 7th and we have gorgeous new posters to prove it!

 

  THE SERIES

 is led by our gorgeous Russell Tovey as the member of the alien-busting organisation UNIT who must step into action when a fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, and an international crisis is triggered with the entire population at risk as the land and sea wage war.

The series will have five episodes

 UNIT is led by Kate Lethbridge Stewart (Jemma Redgrave), who fights for control as humanity faces destruction. Gugu Mbatha-Raw also stars but you won't recognise her under the blue make up. 

 

 

WHO ELSE IS IN THE CAST?

Ruth Madeley stars as Shirley Bingham, Alexander Devrient as Colonel Christofer Ibrahim, and Colin McFarlane as General Austin Pierce. Other previously announced cast members include Adrian Lukis, Patrick Baladi, Francesca Corney, Mei Mac, Vincent Franklin, Waleed Hammad, Iestyn Arwel, Hannah Donaldson, Manpreet Bachu, and Ann Akinjirin. Set in the ’90s and inspired by true events, it follows a working-class undercover officer who is tasked with entrapping and apprehending gay men, only to find himself drawn to one of his targets. THE HISTORY OF SOUND

There are a couple of gay themed movies at Cannes this year, among them is THE HISTORY OF SOUND  with gay icons Josh O'Connor and Paul Mescal as two young men during World War I who set out to record the lives, voices and music of their American countrymen. In this snatched, short-lived moment in their young lives, and while discovering the epic sweep of the U.S., both men are deeply changed. This historical romantic drama film, directed by Oliver Hermanus is based on the short story of the same name by Ben Shattuck. Some critics have called it moving and tasteful in the first reviews from Cannes.

 

PILLION WITH ALEXANDER SKARSGARD

Then there is something that contains, as far as I have heard tons of extreme graphic sex and Alexander Skarsgard has said their shooting was very intense. Fun and filthy romance with heart PILLION follows Colin (Harry Melling), a weedy wallflower letting life pass him by. That is until Ray (Skarsgård), the impossibly handsome leader of a motorbike club, takes him on as his submissive. Ray uproots Colin from his dreary suburban life, introducing him to a community of kinky, queer bikers and taking all sorts of virginities along the way. But as Colin steps deeper into Ray’s world of rules and mysteries, he begins to question whether the life of a 24/7 submissive is for him.

This one did not hit Cannes, but gay romantic drama PLAINCLOTHES is also arriving this year.  Russell Tovey and Tom Blyth have been set as leads in the indie movie from Carmen Emmi who directed this story which she also wrote. As Deadline reports, our dearest Russell Tovey has joined the cast of Disney Plus new true story series SUSPECT: THE SHOOTING OF JEAN CHARLES DE MENEZES which describes the tragic shooting of an innocent man mistaken for a terrorist in London bombings twenty years ago. Edison Alcaide will play De Menezes whose death happened around two weeks after 7/7 following a second set of planned attacks, which failed but set off a manhunt. The Brazilian electrician was mistakenly shot by police at a London underground station, leading to protests, introspection over shoot-to-kill policies and fierce criticism of the Metropolitan Police. Russell Tovey will also star alongside Conleth Hill, Max Beesley, Emily Mortimer, Daniel Mays, Laura Aikman and Alex Jennings. Mortimer and Hill will play police chiefs.

Viaplay is finally releasing their new post apocalyptic series THE FORTRESS with Russell Tovey, Tobias Santelmann and Eili Harboe in the lead roles.

The Fortress will stream from July 16th

It will be available on Viaplay channels from July 16th and also on SBS in Australia.

SET IN 2037 this seven episode series sees a Norway that has severed all ties with the rest of the world. The decision to isolate, made by a Norwegian government led by members of the Our Way party, came after various crises had plagued countries across Europe (and the world) for years. Surrounded by an enormous wall, the nation has become entirely self-sufficient, and the fortunate inhabitants enjoy sheltered lives in a self-sustaining Nordic paradise. Then there are those on the other side of the wall: the non-Norwegian people held in refugee camps, surrounded by barbed wire and armed soldiers. When a deadly pandemic breaks out and affects Norway’s food supply, a government advisor states that the cause came “from the outside, of course.” But did it, really? In the meantime, the Norwegians soon realize that the wall meant to protect them is now holding them prisoner.

The new series will be set 25 years on from where the last one left off and will tell an entirely new story. She will have a recurring role as Elaine Levitch, a dynamo who comes to WGBH by way of CBS to work with Julia on ‘The French Chef.'

Here's one I forgot to tell you about last week: Chris Bohjalian's novel THE LIONESS will be turned into a TV series by eOne. Out tomorrow, the book a historical fiction thriller that follows a Hollywood starlet and her entourage as they embark on a luxurious African safari that turns deadly. This is not the first of Bohjalian's works to get a small screen treatment: his bestseller The Flight Attendant is now also a popular television series over at HBO. Sherry Marsh, who worked on Vikings: Valhalla is executive producing. Last year I also informed you that she is producing The Winter King series for Sony based on Bernard Cornwell's Arthurian books.

Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name) will helm it with Rooney Mara producing and taking the lead role. Five time Oscar nominee Hepburn was born in Belgium and grew up in Netherlands during World War II when the Germans occupied the country. As Deadline writes, she studied ballet in Amsterdam in 1945 and then took part as a chorus girl in London’s West End. Her first film role was tiny in the 1952 feature Monte Carlo Baby. She then got the title role of the Broadway play Gigi, which earned her great praise. Her first leading role was 1953’s Roman Holiday for which she notched an Oscar, a Golden Globe Award, and a BAFTA Award. Other movies she played in include big screen classics such as Sabrina, Funny Face, The Breakfast at Tiffany's, Charade and the most famous My Fair Lady!
