Coming from Oscar nominated director and writer Celine Song is new movie MATERIALISTS which should arrive to theatres June 13th starring  Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. She plays an ambitious, successful professional New York City matchmaker named Lucy who finds herself torn between two men, one a wealthy perfect match (Pedro Pascal) who Lucy calls “a unicorn, an impossible fantasy,” and the other her imperfect ex (Chris Evans), a struggling actor-waiter who she runs into again catering one of her fancy events. Vanity Fair showed us the first images last week and today we have the first trailer for GLADIATOR II which stars Paul Mescal in the lead role of Lucius Verus alongside Pedro Pascal as Marcus Acacius,

and Connie Nielsen who returns to the story that will continue November 22nd when the film hits cinemas ahead of the festive season.Two relatively young brothers rule the vast empire, with Fred Hechinger as Emperor Caracalla and Joseph Quinn as Emperor Geta.

 

  GLADIATOR II
 continues decades after the first movie in which Russell Crowe played his father, now Lucius has come of age and has gotten far away from his mother, as Variety reveals. While he was still a child, Lucilla sent him to the northern coast of Africa, to a region called Numidia that was (at that point) just outside the reach of the Roman Empire. He never fully understood why, and as he grew stronger, so did his resentment even if his mother’s reasons had been pure. As Gladiator II begins, Mescal’s Lucius, according to Variety, has a wife and child, and lives a relatively peaceful life with them until conquerors from his homeland begin to encroach. He’s taken root in a seacoast town in Numidia. He’s a blue-eyed, fair-skinned man with red hair, and he couldn’t be more different from the inhabitants, director Ridley Scott reveals. It’s one of the last surviving civilizations, as the Romans begin to descend in North Africa and take it all over. Leading that charge is Pedro Pascal’s Marcus Acacius, a Roman general said to have trained as a junior officer under Crowe’s character, although he wasn’t seen in the first movie. Lucius, once the grandson of the emperor of Rome, finds himself a prisoner of it. But when he gets to Rome as a prisoner and has a first round in the arena, he sees his mother—to his shock. He doesn’t know whether she’s alive or not. And she’s now with the general who he came face-to-face with on the wall in Numidia. Lucilla doesn’t recognize the battered creature in the Colosseum as her son, and has no idea about the bloody history between him and the man she loves.

THE VOICE CAST

Pedro Pascal stars as Fink, a mischievous fox who is the first animal that Roz helps and befriends. Catherine O'Hara as Pinktail, a mother opossum. Bill Nighy as Longneck, a wise elder goose. Kit Connor as Brightbill, an orphaned goose who is raised by Roz as her own son. Stephanie Hsu as Vontra, a robot of Roz's race who has been sent to retrieve Roz! Directed by Chris Sanders it is the last movie done within the studio, as the next ones will be ordered from outside studios. It will later stream on Peacock and then on Netflix as well.

The lead role has been given to Pedro Pascal who plays a lone gunfighter and bounty hunter with advanced combat skills and questionable moral character in the outer reaches of the galaxy from the time after the Empire has fallen in Return of the Jedi, and before the rise of the First Order in The Force Awakens which means it is a time when lawless chaos ruled in certain parts of the galaxy. Giancarlo Esposito will appear as Moff Gideon, a former governor under the Empire whose life changed after the Rebels destroyed the second Death Star.

New Lady and the Tramp streams November 12th

of their classic LADY AND THE TRAMP will stream on November 12th and now they've announced the first trailer and poster.

The story of the film centres on a pampered house dog named Lady (Tessa Thompson) whose comfortable life slips away from her. Following a series of tense circumstances, Lady finds herself on the loose in the street. She manages to befriend a tough stray mutt named Tramp (Justin Theroux, but the dog itself was actually cast among real strays). A romance begins to blossom between them. However, their many differences, along with more drama in Lady's life, could threaten to keep them apart.

Speaking of Disney classics and dogs, Disney has also revealed the first look of Emma Stone as young Cruella de Vil from CRUELLA live action movie which will depict her youth. It looks offensively terrible. Beside dalmatians, the photo also reveals her costars Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry! That one hits theatres in May 2021!

The Jedi Knight series will start shooting next year. You know your trusted spy is not much of a fan of Star Wars, but some of you might be interested to hear that Disney's upcoming new streaming service is preparing a TV series from that universe and they've set Pedro Pascal to topline it in the lead role! Director Jon Favreau will produce THE MANDALORIAN science fiction series for Disney + with a plan for it to air next year. Star Wars characters Jango and Boba Fett's were also from the planet of Mandalore but this one, set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order, will see Pascal playing a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. As Variety reports, Disney + has also announced work on a prequel series on the “Rogue One” character Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna! The directors for THE MANDALORIAN episodes have already been set and they include actress Bryce Dallas Howard and Thor director Taika Waititi.

In other science fiction news today, one of the most popular sf writers Ursula  K. Le Guin, known for Earthsea saga, will see her sf novelette NINE LIVES adapted into a movie with Johnny Lee Miller and rapper Common set to lead the cast. As Deadline reports, set on a moon base for off-world drilling, the darkly comedic story follows two jaded workers whose excitement at the prospect of incoming human company is dashed when they are instead sent ten clones.
