'GREAT EXPECTATIONS'
NEW MINI SERIES AT BBC AND FX
It has probably been done about million times if not more, both in movie and television versions, some rather recent ones (BBC had one less than ten
years ago), but that will not stop British BBC and American FX to reteam again after last year's quite unsuccessful A Christmas Carol with Guy Pearce, and adapt another of Charles Dickens' famous stories GREAT EXPECTATIONS into a six episode mini series. Taboo, See and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will pen this one as well following the sad story of orphan named Pip who eagerly abandons his humble origins and becomes a gentleman when his life, after a series of events, is transformed by a mystery benefactor. The story was originally published back in 1860 in a series of weekly chapters. This will be the second in a whole series of planned adaptations of Dickens' works over at BBC.

REESE WHITERSPOON TO LEAD
THE CACTUS NETFLIX ADAPTATION
Speaking of book adaptations, Netflix will turn Sarah Haywood's current best seller THE CACTUS into a romantic comedy movie and they've
signed Reese Witherspoon as the lead star. This will be her first collaboration with world's most popular streaming service.

The Cactus, which became an international success after being published
last May, has the story revolving around an unexpected pregnancy at 45
which causes a reserved woman to rethink the structured life she has
created for herself and leads her on an unconventional journey toward
love, family and learning to embrace the unexpected. Reese will also
star in Netflix' movie Your Place Or Mine which focuses on two long
distance best friends who change each other’s lives when she decides to
pursue a lifelong dream and he volunteers to keep an eye on her teenage
son.

APPLE TURNS EDITH WHARTON'S CLASSIC INTO NEW TV SAGA
Meanwhile, rival streamer Apple TV + will turn Edith Wharton's 1913 popular novel THE CUSTOM OF THE COUNTRY into a limited series to be directed by Sofia Coppola who will also pen the script about a
Midwestern girl who attempts to ascend in New York City society. Considered by many to be her masterpiece, Edith Wharton's second full-length work is a scathing yet personal examination of the exploits and follies of the modern upper class. As she unfolds the story of Undine Spragg, from New York to Europe, Wharton affords us a detailed glimpse of what might be called the interior décor of this America and its nouveau riche fringes. Through a heroine who is as vain, spoiled, and selfish as she is irresistibly fascinating, and through a most intricate and satisfying plot that follows Undine's marriages and affairs, she conveys a vision of social behavior that is both supremely informed and supremely disenchanted.
