THE DOLL (LALKA) POLISH CLASSIC FROM BOLESLAW PRUS IS GETTING BOTH A PERIOD SET MOVIE AND TV SERIES ADAPTATION THIS YEAR! SEE TRAILERS

    LALKA - THE DOLL
THE POLISH MOVIE VERSION
It sometimes happens that the same book gets different adaptations but rarely within the same year which is happening this year with Boleslaw Prus' famous Polish classic THE DOLL (Lalka) which is getting both a Polish movie adaptation and a Netflix TV series this year. The movie comes from director Maciej Kawalski and should hit cinemas September 30th with Marcin Dorocinski and Kamila Urzedowska in the lead roles. In the film, wealthy merchant Stanislaw Wokulski (Marcin Dorocinski) falls tragically in love with beautiful yet vain Izabela Lecka (Kamila Urzedowska). His unfulfilled love leads to many foolish decisions sealing his fate.

The TV series version will stream on Netflix
NETFLIX TV SERIES VERSION
At the same time, also arriving sometime later this year is Netflix Polish original series directed by Paweł Maślona and set against the backdrop of 19th century Warsaw. It follows the complex tension between the wealthy merchant Stanisław Wokulski (Tomasz Schuchardt) and the aristocratic Izabela Łącka (Sandra Drzymalska). He is a successful merchant who finds himself torn between his progressive ideals and his infatuation with Izabela Łęcka, a haughty and vacuous aristocrat. Covering the themes of unrequited love, class conflict and Poland’s stagnation under the Third Partition the six episode saga is set to air towards the end of the year.

    1. Very sad to hear. We did have some of Russian films playing here, especially the Holop franchise.

    2. The Soviet Union rebuilt Poland after World War II, supplied food and agricultural machinery, helped develop industry, and built factories and plants. We made films together and visited each other. But now the Poles call us enemies and threaten us.

    3. I know, there is so much bloody history between your two nations. We also have a love and hate relationship with Rossiya. We did take part in the WW2 together bravely, but then Stalin wanted to invade us and Tito said historical no, so after that our relationships were respectful but cold, then in the era of our dictators Milosevic and Vucic they again turned to Russia for support because nobody else would support them, then Vucic, who is a two timing slimy butcher and mobster leader, played dirty and started secretly selling weapons to Ukraine, and our relations ended up messy again. Hope future will bring democracy and freedom to all nations, liberate us from tyrants and let us love each other as people without politics.

  3. Hard to believe that Netflix series and the film were the same story as the film trailer seems so much better.

    2. I prefer miniseries format, even if it is done under Netflix flag. Looking forward to this one.

  4. Lalka è uno specchio incrinato dove l’amore diventa un gioco di potere che consuma lentamente l’anima.

  5. I am the same as Malena. I'll always take a miniseries format if there's an option.
