 After Bradley Cooper has decided to play Lucifer in PARADISE LOST epic, Relativity has lost its lead actor for the remake of famous 90's classic THE CROW, which, as you remember,

revolved around a musician who is murdered while trying to save his fiancée from thugs and then comes back from the dead with the help of supernatural forces seeking revenge. "Heat Vision" has a new gossip about Channing Tatum being one of the lead candidates for the coveted role. The remake is helmed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo whom you remember from 28 WEEKS LATER. Well this could be really cute: using currently two very popular and talented comedians, lovely Melissa McCarthy and charming Jason Bateman ID THEFT will see Bateman's character's identity getting stolen by Melissa's character. The role of the thief was first supposed to be male, but Universal has decided to give it to McCarthy who became amazingly famous after BRIDESMAIDS.

I think I've told you at least hundred times how Tarsem Sing's IMMORTALS is HOLLYWOOD SPY's most anticipated film this year. Well, here's the freshly released third trailer for this

groundbreaking, mindblowing, earthshaking :) Greek epic which will follow brave Theseus (Henry Cavill) who must help Gods to stop evil king Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) from stealing the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares. Rallying a band of fellow outsiders, including visionary priestess Phaedra (Freida Pinto) and cunning slave Stavros (Stephen Dorff), Theseus will lead the uprising, or watch his homeland fall into ruin and his Gods vanish into legend. And speaking of Gods, they are played by Luke Evans as Zeus, Isabel Lucas as Athena and Kellan Lutz as Poseidon, and you can see quite a bit of them in the new trailer (Athena especially).

RICHARD ARMITAGE IS YOUR FAVOURITE "THE HOBBIT" STAR FOLLOWED BY CATE BLANCHETT, LUKE EVANS AND LEE PACE! NEW POLL: BEST SUMMER 2011 HERO!

Richard Armitage's ladies have shown once again that no poll around the world escapes them, and they brought him victory in our YOUR FAVOURITE THE HOBBIT STAR poll with 75% of votes. Cate Blanchett took second place with 6%, leaving behind her Luke Evans (5%), Lee Pace (2%), Aidan Turner (2%), Benedict Cumberbatch (2%), Stephen Fry (2%), Evangeline Lilly (1%) and Martin Freeman who, ironically as the lead character in the film, took last place with only 3 out of almost 350 votes which just proves my point that the Hobbits are actually the most boring part of the Hobbit film, as they were

Check out a gorgeous and fancy new picture from one of the big Oscar contenders MY WEEK WITH MARILYN. As I told you earlier, the film will follow an assistant (super charismatic Eddie Redmayne) at the shooting of famous THE PRINCE AND THE SHOWGIRL the film that famously united Sir Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh) and Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams) who was also on honeymoon with her new husband, the playwright Arthur Miller (Dougray Scott). Nearly 40 years on, his diary account "The Prince, the Showgirl and Me" was published, but one week was missing, and this was published some years later as MY WEEK WITH MARILYN. It was an idyllic week in which he escorted Monroe desperate to get away from her retinue of Hollywood hangers-on

and the pressures of work. This unbelievable cast also includes Judi Dench, Dominic Cooper, Derek Jacobi, and Julia Ormond as Vivien Leigh.

 As you probably heard over the weekend, Mike Myers is ready to do AUSTEN POWERS 4 after a long pause! I'm kinda ashamed to admit that the shaggadelic adventures of the crazy Powers

are probably the only ones I kinda like from the genre of silly comedies. It's been almost ten years since AUSTEN POWERS GOLDMEMBER. Today, you can also check out a beautiful new poster for Andrew Niccol's sf film IN TIME which, beside the trailer, promises some really cool and artsy visuals. With the stellar and lethally gorgeous cast including Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, Alex Pettyfer and Cillian Murphy, the film is set in a future in which people can buy time and prolong their lives and youth, which makes time a target of criminals and thieves.

I've posted a story on this one back in 2009, but here's a new trailer for thrilling Chinese adventure TREASURE HUNTER which will finally be released in USA September 15th. The film, starring one of my favourite Asian actors Jay Chou (GREEN HORNET, CURSE OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER), is basically a Chinese

version of THE MUMMY set in the northwest desert where countless prosperous dynasties have ruled in the past centuries, so there is rumor of a treasure of unbelievable riches buried there. A group of mysterious guardians have been guarding the map to the location of the treasure until a fierce rivalry erupted. A notorious international crime group, The Company, hunted down the map keeper and before they managed to secure the map, the keeper passed the map to a young chivalrous man Ciao Fei (Jay Chou). He was forced to give up the map to save the life of his mentor’s daughter. Teaming up with her and a famous archaeologist he embarks on a dangerous journey to recover the map and fight to protect the ancient treasure.

ASIAN INVASION: MIND BLOWING IMAGES FROM MESMERIZING CHINESE EPICS "LADY GENERAL YANG" AND "THE MURAL", BOTH FEATURING FEMALE LEAD HEROES!

Well, since it's a slow Monday in the news department, I'm sure you won't mind us having an Asian Invasion day here at HOLLYWOOD SPY, especially since, thanks to my dear Jaccsy, I

have two visually breathtaking upcoming Asian projects to present to you!
Over at my favourite BUZZES CAFE I've seen these magnificent and truly mind blowing concept art character posters for something that could easily be the most exciting Asian film in a long long time since it features all female heroes and warriors. LADY GENERAL OF YANG FAMILY (not to be mistaken with SAVING GENERAL YANG I've mentioned recently) will bring one of China's most amazing historical sagas to the big screens.

This expensive, and extremely lavish historical epic will tell a heroic tale of how the women from the Yang family of Song dynasty stepped onto the battlefield to avenge the deaths of their warrior husbands, who died while fighting the invading Xia army after being sold out by a traitorous Song official. As you can see from these spectacular pictures, the film will feature lots of different female characters from the Yang family including their 100 year old Yang matriarch, and her daughters some of which are extremely wise, some know how to use a  halberd, some are superb archers, some

possess occult powers, some use embroidery needle as hidden weapon, some always have some inventive solutions ....According to BUZZES CAFE this expensive epic, which took ten years for the script to be prepared, will also use its budget to recreate battlefields on a 1:1 scale.

FAIRY LAND IN "THE MURAL"

Another Asian film which promises to be visually stunning and mesmerizing is Chinese epic fantasy film THE MURAL. As Buzzes

Cafe reports, this beautiful effect-heavy mix of action romance  and fantasy will be set in a magical fairy land and will follow  the journey of three men into a fantasy world populated and powered exclusively by beautiful women. The movie stars the newly married couple Deng Chao and Betty Sun (LOST BLADESMAN) and action star Collin Chou (THE MATRIX RELOADED). Check out some of the first beautiful pictures from this film. THE MURAL, which will try to create a

unique look reminiscent of Chinese water-colored paintings, should premiere in China later this September and it will hopefully get into foreign cinemas as well. PS click on the pics to seem them in bigger size!

HOLLYWOOD SPY SPOTLIGHT: THE STARS OF PETER JACKSON'S "THE HOBBIT" AND THEIR CHARACTERS! MARTIN FREEMAN, CATE BLANCHETT, LUKE EVANS, LEE PACE, IAN MCKELLEN, EVANGELINE LILLY, RICHARD ARMITAGE!

I'm sure that, mesmerized by divine LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, you're all anxiously waiting for two THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY films to come to cinemas in 2012 and 2013 directed by Peter Jackson. Based on J.R.R. Tolkien's famous saga, they will follow Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit, and his journey to the Lonely Mountain accompanied by a group of dwarves in order to reclaim a treasure taken from them by the

dragon Smaug. So, here's HOLLYWOOD SPY's spotlight on all the biggest characters which will be the part of this magnificent tale.

MARTIN FREEMAN IS BILBO

Martin Freeman will take the lead role of Bilbo Baggins, a very well-to-do hobbit living a contented life in the peaceful lands of the Shire, when his accidental wish for adventure (that he didn’t even know he possessed) comes true with the unexpected arrival of a Wizard and a clutch of Dwarves. He will earn the trust and friendship of his Dwarvish traveling party during their quest and will form lasting friendships with the Elves of Mirkwood and Rivendell and the Men of Lake-town who had never encountered Hobbits before. You've seen Freeman in BBC's SHERLOCK series.

CATE BLANCHETT IS ELVEN QUEEN

Cate Blanchett is playing Galadriel, beautiful Elven queen. She doesn't appear in THE HOBBIT book, but Peter Jackson said there will be a backstory of the White Council which she summoned

trying to fight of evil Sauron, but didn't succeed and that's why she redoubled her watchfulness in Lorien in which she had escaped after Sauron had destroyed her kingdom of Eregion. It's most probable that Cate Blanchett will be also used as the narrator of the whole story as she did in LORD OF THE RINGS too.

LUKE EVANS IS THE LEADER OF MEN

Luke Evans will play Bard, a man of Lake-town and the gloomy captain of a company of archers. Bard will use the black arrow, which he got from his father, in order to kill evil dragon Smaug! He will also be the leader of Men during the Battle of Five Armies,

where his allies will  include Elves and Dwarves. After killing the dragon, he will probably become king Bard of the Lake-town. You'll be seeing Evans in Tarsem's IMMORTALS, in RAVEN, and you've seen him in CLASH OF THE TITANS too.

AIDAN TURNER IS DWARF PRINCE

Aidan Turner will play Kili, a dwarf prince raised under the stern guardianship of his uncle, Thorin Oakensheild. He, and his brother Fili, as skilled fighters, will set off on their adventure armed with

the invincible courage of youth, neither being able to imagine the fate which lies before them. He will die defending Thorin at the Battle of the Five Armies. Turner is the star of BBC's hit show BEING HUMAN.

LEE PACE IS ELVENKING

Lee Pace will play the Elvenking Thranduil who rules the Wood-elves of Mirkwood. He will capture Dwarves because he doesn't trust them. Being powerful and mighty he will help the

people of Lake-town and will lead his elven army against the Goblins in the Battle of Five Armies. He is also the father of famous Legolas from LORD OF THE RINGS. Pace is the star of Tarsem's THE FALL and of PUSHING DAISIES.

RICHARD ARMITAGE DWARF LEADER

Richard Armitage will play Thorin Oakenshield, a strong and fearless fighter and revered leader of Dwarves, who wants to reclaim his kingdom from the evil dragon Smaug who took their homes and fortune and forced once proud and noble race into

exile. In his wish to return the vast treasure of his homeland Erebor, he will bring twelve dwarves with him to Bilbo Baggins’ front door and that's how The Quest of Erebor will begin. Armitage has starred in BBC's ROBIN HOOD and in CAPTAIN AMERICA FIRST AVENGER.

BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH IS THE DRAGON

Benedict Cumberbatch will lend his voice to Smaug, one of the last great dragons of Middle-earth who attacked the Dwarf kingdom of Erebor driving out the Dwarves and taking all of the treasure

within. Living there for two hundred years and guarding the treasure he also makes the people of the nearby Lake-town live in constant fear that one day the sleeping dragon might awake. Cumberbatch is the star of BBC's SHERLOCK. He will also voice the Necromancer Ruler of the stronghold of Dol Guldur in southern Mirkwood.

EVANGELINE LILLY IS WOOD ELF

Evangeline Lilly will play Tauriel, a true Sylvan Elf, whose name means a Daughter of Mirkwood. The only thing known about this character is that she doesn't appear in the book, and that she won't

have a romantic link to Legolas. It is not known how long her role will be, whether she will be a warrior Elf or just some lovely Elven maiden. Lilly was one of the stars of LOST TV show.

IAN MCKELLEN IS GANDALF

Sir Ian McKellen will again play Gandalf the Grey, a powerful wizard who has built deep relationships over time with great lords and leaders of Dwarves, Men and Elves. He will mobilize Dwarves and Bilbo Baggins

to seek the Lonely Mountain and attempt to eradicate the dragon Smaug. McKellen has played the same role in LORD OF THE RINGS.

STEPHEN FRY IS MASTER OF LAKE-TOWN

Stephen Fry will play Master of Lake-town, who will welcome Thorin and his company after escaping Thranduil’s dungeons, but since he is known as a business man, greedy and self-serving, he will be happy to see them go because they are expensive to keep and they distract the people from their daily business. When Smaug attacks Lake-town he will run away in his gilded boat leaving his people to fight without their leader. Fry is one of Britain's biggest thespians and a beloved comedian.

2012, while second part THERE AND BACK AGAIN will premiere in December 2013! Overly dark and morbid Guillermo del Toro was supposed to helm the film, but fortunately, Peter Jackson took it over during the pre-production limbo. Actors James McAvoy, Matthew Goode and David Tennant were in the option to play Bilbo. PATRICK WILSON JOINS CHARLIZE THERON & MICHAEL FASSBENDER IN RIDLEY SCOTT'S "PROMETHEUS"! "BRIDGET JONES III" GREENLIT! MARK ROMANEK TO HELM NEW "CINDERELLA"! MADAGASCAR PENGUINS GETTING THEIR OWN FILM

 Well, this is certainly good news: according to "Collider", one of the most talented actors Patrick Wilson has joined the cast of Ridley Scott's sf thriller PROMETHEUS which is already filming and

is rather mysterious since nobody knows what it will be about, except that it will be connected in some way with Ridley's classic ALIEN and that it follows a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world. Patrick will join a stellar cast which includes Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Guy Pearce. As you know, Wilson is also preparing for the premiere of his TV show A GIFTED MAN over at CBS this September in which he will play a doctor who changes his arrogant ways after the visit of his dead wive's ghost.

 SHORT HOLLYWOOD HEADLINES

After they finish MADAGASCAR III which premieres in 2012, DreamWorks is also preparing a new animated film just with our

beloved MADAGASCAR PENGUINS Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico, which should hit theaters in 2014 with the script by the authors of MEGAMIND. As "Deadline" reports, talented Mark Romanek (ONE HOUR PHOTO) could collaborate with Disney in making a new version of CINDERELLA with a script from DEVIL WEARS PRADA scribes for which Disney paid a seven figure sum. In the new version the prince is set for a politically arranged marriage, until the evil plan is threatened when the prince meets Cinderella. The film will have lavish look of Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

As I announced earlier this Spring, Working Title Films has officially greenlit BRIDGET JONES III. As "Entertainment

Weekly" reports, after first two films from 2001 and 2004, we shall again enjoy the adventures of the single, 30-something British woman as she struggles with men, her weight and her work. Both Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are eager to join Renee Zellweger, and as you remember from my previous report, the film will now probably follow Bridget's unsuccessful attempts to get pregnant with Firth's Mark, after which she will make the huge mistake of going back to Grant's Daniel character. He will off course dump her, and Mark will again have to come to her rescue.

The casting for the second season of GAME OF THRONES is still going on, and there are four new members in the cast: British actor Ben Crompton will play Dolorous Edd, a member of the Night’s

Watch who will join Jon Snow and the men of the Night’s Watch as they journey beyond the Wall. There's also Irish actor Michael McElhatton, who will play Roose Bolton, Lord of the Dreadfort. In the second season he will have scenes with Arya Stark. Young British hunk Karl Davies, from the UK soap “Emmerdale” has signed on to play Alton Lannister, who does not appear in the books by George R. R. Martin. And redheaded British actress Hannah Murray will appear in the second season as Gilly whom men of the Night’s Watch meet as they journey beyond the wall and who is involved in some strange twist against Lannisters.

The writing debut of actor Wentworth Miller, STOKER, which

follows a girl who recently lost her father when suddenly a mysterious vampirish uncle appears in her life, has just signed in Dermot Mulroney (as father) who will join Nicole Kidman (mother) and Matthew Goode (uncle). Morgan Freeman will play one of the magicians who use magic to commit robberies beside Amanda Seyfried and Mark Ruffalo in NOW YOU SEE ME. Upcoming sequel G.I. JOE 2: RETALIATION will have Bruce Willis as General Joe Colton. He joins Dwayne Johnson and Channing Tatum in the stellar cast.

Now, I've never heard of this film before, which is strange having in mind its stunning cast, but drama MAIN STREET is supposed

to premiere in US cinemas this September. Amazing cast including Colin Firth, Orlando Bloom, Patricia Clarkson, Amber Tamblyn, Andrew McCarthy and legendary Ellen Burstyn, will appear in the story of several residents of a small Southern city whose lives are changed by the arrival of a stranger with a controversial plan to save their decaying hometown. In the midst of today's challenging times, each of the colorful citizens of this close-knit North Carolina community, will search for ways to reinvent themselves, their relationships and the very heart of their neighborhood.

1ST TRAILER FOR "CORIOLANUS" WITH GERARD BUTLER & RALPH FIENNES! DEREK HOUGH & LEA MICHELE IN "DIRTY DANCING" REMAKE? "FRANKENSTEIN" SHOW ON NBC, CBS REMAKING "BEWITCHED"

 Yesterday's news on Warner Bros. preparing a remake of famous DIRTY DANCING classic from the 80's has created quite a lot of buzz among you,

and now we already have the first gossips on the possible stars. According to "MovieWeb" main contender for the Patrick Swayze's role is famous dancer Derek Hough (who won DANCING WITH THE STARS with gorgeous Nicole Scherzinger), but GLEE's Matthew Morrison and GOSSIP GIRL's Chace Crawford are also on the list.  Jennifer Gray's role could go to GLEE's Lea Michele who currently competes for the role with two teen stars Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato. As you know, Kenny Ortega, who came up with the famous choreography from the original film, is now behind the helm.

Aha haha ... check out lovely THE PIRATES! BAND OF MISFITS poster which says "It's a plunderful life" :) Most of you were rather thrilled by the trailer I posted earlier this year for this lovely animated comedy which follows a less than successful pirate

captain and his crazy crew with the voices of Hugh Grant, Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey and Salma Hayek. The film premieres next March. Now, this is interesting, according to "Variety" NBC has ordered a pilot for FRANKESTEIN TV series, a modern day version of the famous Frankenstein story by Mary Shelley. And speaking of TV shows, CBS is planning to do a remake show of BEWITCHED which followed a marriage of a normal guy and a witch. For reasons unknown, RESIDENT EVIL is getting a fifth part to be titled RETRIBUTION. The lead role will again go to Milla Jovovich, which is not strange since her hubs, Paul W.S. Anderson is the director of the film which should hit cinemas in Autumn 2012.

And we're still on Gerard Butler :) since the first trailer for his drama CORIOLANUS has just been released. Shot last year in Serbia, this modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's

famous play should premiere this December just in time for the Oscar race, starring Gerard Butler, Ralph Fiennes (who is also the director), Brian Cox and a bunch of Serbian actors. In the modern version, Shakespeare's drama on Roman hero Coriolanus and his enemy Tullus Aufidius, commander of the Volscian army, is turned into a contemporary Rome-set political and family drama about a banished hero of Rome who allies with a sworn enemy to take his revenge on the city.The film will feature a special visual aspect since all the characters are dressed in modern military uniforms.

Remember how yours truly has recently noticed a rather unpleasant trend of big stars taking roles in mediocre B-league action and cop flicks? Well, it's happening again: as "The

Hollywood Reporter" reveals, Gerard Butler will become THE BRICKLAYER, in the story which centers on a former FBI agent who is brought back into the bureau to help take down a dangerous criminal group. These criminals are extorting money from the bureau and know far too much about the inner workings of the FBI. Gerard Butler will take the role of the former agent who became a Chicago bricklayer after leaving the FBI. After last week's mega success SMURFS will get a sequel in summer 2013!  Popular 80's classic DIRTY DANCING is getting a new remake directed by Kenny Ortega, the creator of the iconic choreography from the original film!

Warner Bros. has just released some rather cheap looking character posters (the trailer also gave a rather poor impression last month) for Steven Soderbergh's extremely expensive viral thriller CONTAGION which should premiere this September starring Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Marion Cotillard ...   The chilling story follows the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus that kills within days. As the fast-moving epidemic grows, the worldwide medical

community races to find a cure and control the panic that spreads faster than the virus itself. At the same time, ordinary people struggle to survive in a society coming apart.

In the comedy drama, which premieres this September, Sarah Jessica Parker plays Kate Reddy, a finance executive who is the breadwinner for her husband and two kids. The story follows all the troubles of this working mother trying desperately to juggle marriage, children, and a high-stress job. The cast also features Greg Kinnear as her husband joined by a stellar group which includes Pierce Brosnan, Olivia Moon, Kelsey Grammer, gorgeous Christina Hendricks and Seth Meyers. Bad news for all of you who loved witty dialogues, intriguing and highly intelligent plots and all the beloved characters from

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES! Now, we all knew that the show won't last forever, but it will last only one more season and instead of having 9 seasons it will have eight. This means that this Fall's season is the final one. Marc Cherry, the creator of one of the most popular shows around the globe, decided to end the show while it still has the biggest ratings and while it is on top. One thing is sure - seductive Eva Longoria, refined Marcia Cross, wise Felicity Huffman and charming Teri Hatcher will end the show in the most dramatic of ways and we can expect some mind blowing twists and surprises and as always, lots of love between our dear housewives.

While we are waiting for a trailer announcing the fourth season of BBC's mega successful show MERLIN to be released, I have some cool news: even though the fourth season is yet to be aired this September, the fifth season has officially been greenlit as well! 

This will allow the show's writing team more creative space and future episodes will feature a greater focus on slow-burn character arcs. The upcoming fourth season will see Merlin (Colin Morgan) and Arthur (Bradley James) battling Morgana who went over to the dark side, and the show will probably be freshened up with the newly establish knights of the round table with Lancelot and Gawain appearing more in the episodes. New face in the show will also be Agravaine, the uncle of prince Arthur. The new season will open with a two-part adventure telling the story of Morgana's revenge, and Katie McGrath, who plays Morgana, has recently said that we shall see Morgana become an evil force comparable to the Star Wars villain Darth Vader.

Although the first film hasn't even finished shooting, the sequel to THE HUNGER GAMES titled CATCHING FIRE has received it's

premiere date in November 2013. As you know, based on the book by Suzanne Collins, the first film will hit cinemas in March 2012. This is not the only film which hasn't even been shot but already has its release date, since Marvel has reserved two dates in May and June 2014 for two unknown mysterious superhero projects. Their THE AVENGERS, IRON MAN2 and THOR2 will be aired before that, in 2012 and 2013. The new actor to join the second season of HBO's mega popular epic show GAME OF THRONES is British veteran Roy Dotrice who will be playing the pyromancer Hallyne who is also the chief of the Guild of Alchemists.
