TO LEAD 'PASSAGE' SF SERIES

Well, this is certainly a great casting: as 'Deadline' reports Mark Paul Gosselaar will lead fantasy series pilot THE PASSAGE at Fox based on Justin Cronin's fantasy trilogy. Saniyya Sidney, Genesis Rodriguez, Brianne Howey, BJ Britt and Jennifer Ferrin also star.

Described as an epic, character driven thriller that morphs into a post apocalyptic odyssey THE PASSAGE is told in two timelines. In the present, a 10-year-old Amy Bellafonte (Sidney) seems to have special powers that allow her to communicate with “virals,” terrifying monsters that once were human. Through flashbacks, Amy tells her tale, which is directly tied to the genesis of these creatures. Gosselaar will play an agent who is supposed to escort her from a medical facility but escapes with her realizing she might be the key for saving humanity from a vampire disease!

SAM HEUGHAN CAST IN

'THE SPY WHO DUMPED ME'

While he is playing a Scottish highlander manipulated by his overly controlling adulteress wife in Outlander, Sam Heughan will move onto the big screens as well, since he just landed his first leading movie role. He will apparently play a cheating spy in THE SPY WHO DUMPED ME which also stars Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon.

Set for July next year, the movie revolves around two women (played by Kate McKinnon and Mila Kunis) who find themselves in the middle of an international conspiracy when one of them discovers that the man who dumped her was actually a spy.

Amazon has released the trailer for their new mini series THE LAST TYCOON which will start airing July 28th starring Matt Bomer, Lily Collins and Kelsey Grammer. Nine episodes are a Scott. F. Fitzgerald adaptation. The story follows Monroe Stahr, Hollywood's Golden Boy as he battles father figure and boss Pat Brady for the soul of their studio. In a world darkened by the Depression and the growing influence of Hitler's Germany, THE LAST TYCOON illuminates the passions, violence and towering ambition of 1930s Hollywood.

As Amazon has just picked their small screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's THE LAST TYCOON into whole TV series, we have gorgeous first photos from it too! The cast is lead by Matt Bomer, Lily Collins and Kelsey Grammer.

Inspired by the life of film mogul Irving Thalberg, on whom the book’s protagonist Monroe Stahr was based THE LAST TYCOON centres on Stahr (Matt Bomer), Hollywood’s first wunderkind studio executive in the 1930s as he climbs to the height of power pitting him against his mentor and current head of the studio, the brawny, imposing, charming and vain Pat Brady (Kelsey Grammer), a character based on Louis B. Mayer. Having come from the streets, Brady has no intention of returning to his misfortune, and is determined to make sure his studio is successful, no matter what personal morals he compromises.

Universal's has meanwhile released the first, rather epic, trailer for Zhang Yimou's THE GREAT WALL which sadly, instead of originally planned Henry Cavill has Matt Damon in the lead role looking terribly lost in it. The largest film ever shot in China should hit cinemas next February following an elite force making a last stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure.

LILY COLLINS JOINS MATT BOMER IN PERIOD SET SERIES

Some really great casting news from the TV realm today, bringing some of our most beloved faces to the small screens, starting with dearest Lily Collins who has just been cast as the female lead next to Matt Bomer in Amazon's new series THE LAST TYCOON! Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's unfinished novel it will also have Kelsey Grammer and Rosemarie DeWitt in the cast!

As 'Deadline' reports, the project centres on Monroe Stahr (Matthew Bomer), Hollywood’s first wunderkind studio executive in the 1930s as he climbs to the height of power pitting him against his mentor and current head of the studio Pat Brady (Kelsey Grammer)! Lily Collins will play Brady’s young daughter Celia, a lost young rich girl in love with Monroe who begins taking her seriously after her intriguing movie pitch. Rosemarie Dewitt joins the cast playing Pat Brady’s wife, Rose Brady.

'THE ROOTS' EPIC SERIES

Meanwhile, A&E has really rounded up an extremely star studded cast for their historical mini series THE ROOTS which, spanning multiple generations, follows the story of young Kunta Kinte (Malachi Kirby), who is captured in his homeland of Gambia and transported in brutal conditions to colonial America, where he’s sold into slavery. Throughout the series, the family continues to face adversity while bearing witness and contributing to notable events in U.S. history, including the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, slave uprisings and eventual emancipation.

THE STAR STUDDED CAST  
Rap star T.I., Mekhi Phifer,  James Purefoy, Matthew Goode have now joined Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anika Noni Rose, Laurence Fishburne! The four, two hour, episode series will see T.I. play Cyrus, a headstrong slave who fights for his freedom for the Union Army against Confederate Forces; Mekhi Phifer is Jerusalem, a mute slave who works on the Murray plantation, but who is not quite what he appears to be; James Purefoy will play John Waller, the wealthy owner of a Virginia plantation who buys Kunta Kinte as a slave upon his arrival in America; Matthew Goode is Dr. William Waller, the educated, charming brother of John Waller!
