It's that time of the year when networks are ordering sitcom pilots which may or (usually) may not get turned into regular series later on. Fox has ordered a pilot for multicam sitcom GENIUSES that might become a companion for their hit show Last Man Standing. It will follow a blue collar couple in South Jersey trying to get by and raise four kids, three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses. They've also ordered PATTY'S AUTO pilot about an auto repair shop with all female mechanics from Roseanne's producer Darlene Hunt and Elizabeth Banks.

NBC has given a green light to FRIENDS IN LAW comedy pilot (which was in the run last year as well) about two men, who are polar opposites but who must quickly figure out how to coexist when their respective best friends decide to get married. CBS is doing the same by also giving a second chance to one of their last year's pilots which never got into production - CAROL'S SECOND ACT in which Everybody Love's Raymond and cooking star Patricia Heaton plays a woman who after raising her two children and retiring from teaching, embarks on a unique second act: she’s going to become a doctor. They also have a pilot for TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN which follows Evan who sets out with his group of 20-something friends to accomplish a list of challenges he wrote for himself years ago in an effort to turn around his banal life.

Last week was a black one for many shows as tons of them got cancelled, but this is also the time of the year when networks are ordering pilots into series.

CBS has cancelled Kevin Can Wait, Living Biblically, 9JKL and, sadly, our favourite Superior Donuts, as they're planning to fill Monday night with new comedies. They've ordered FAM multicam sitcom into series with Nina Dobrev as a young woman whose dreams of an upstanding life with her new fiancé are dashed when her younger train wreck half-sister comes to live with her to escape their train wreck of a father. Tone Bell, Odessa Adlon, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Sheryl Lee Ralph also star. It will air in midseason!
