'DA GAULLE' EPIC SERIES
ON FAMOUS FRENCH GENERAL
The only thing I have for you today are the first photos of Samuel Labarthe in DE GAULLE, BRILLIANCE AND SECRECY a new four part French period set series about the famous World War II general, who led France from the war days all till the late 1960s. The cast of the France 3
channel series, also includes Jean Louis Tribes as Georges Pompidou, Constance Dollé as Yvonne De Gaulle, Christopher Craig as Winston Churchill and Geoffrey Bateman as Dwight D. Eisenhower!
The four part series will air on France 3 |
The Story
All French people know General De Gaulle. The politician by turns visionary, liberator, peacemaker, builder. The statesman, bearer of a "certain idea of France", free, proud and independent. But who was Charles De Gaulle? What was the driving force behind the man who devoted so much to his country? What role did his wife, the discreet Yvonne, the cornerstone of his
private and public career, play
alongside him, since he said that without her "nothing would have been
possible"? What was the place of her daughter Anne, the one who gave her
the strength to "hold on" in her great moments of doubt? The series
brings back to life the brilliance of illustrious pages in the
History
of France, from the Resistance to the roots of the Fifth Republic, these
great moments that Charles De Gaulle embodied and shaped. It also lifts
the veil on the secret of a personality hitherto modestly hidden behind
the statue of the hero. It reveals a wonderful love story that came out
reinforced by the trials and the terrible burden of supreme power.

'DE GAULLE' EPIC MOVIE
STARRING LAMBERT WILSON!
Lambert Wilson leads the movie project on De Gaulle |
I'd be interested in watching these. I learned of this general on a very high level by reading the book The Nightingale.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, we watched Extremely Wicked last night. Zac Efron did a fabulous job in it. If you haven't seen it yet, it's a quarantine must.
He plays a psycho in it, right? Imma gonna skippitty skipit I don't do movies on criminals and murderers! But we do ever so lurv Efron!
DeleteHe's the reason why I tuned in. He was like a totally different person. While the movie was about the murderer, it wasn't so much about his murders. The movie was from the perspective of his girlfriend at the time and how he manipulated her. Since she didn't believe he was guilty and closed her eyes to his crimes, you don't hear about any until the final hearing that she followed. So creepy how such a good looking, seemingly mild mannered, normalish man can have such a disturbing second life.
DeleteI like watching him whenever he is a guest on Graham Norton, always fun to watch and very humble but not in a fake way.
DeleteI recently read a book set in WWII in France and Charles de Gaulle was always mentioned in it, how he gave hope to the people during the invasion of people's homes by enemy soldiers. I can't wait to watch this to learn more.
ReplyDeleteMe too, I don't know much about him, WW2 did give us a lot of great leaders who built up the world after the tragedy of war. But it was probably easier for them as they had disciplined people who understood their own duties, today's people are spoilt brats and idiots.
DeleteI'd go see that movie if the theatres ever open again!
ReplyDeleteYou reckon they ever will?
DeleteI like the poster, but I'm not a fan of war movies.
ReplyDeleteThey are educational, though, and I think we owe it to the heroes to watch the stories about them.
DeleteWill add these to the list for Jason. I am sure I'll join him on this movie as I have the book Jax mentioned on my reading list. It's been recommended to me so many times, as soon as my library gets the digital back in stock, I'll be reading it.
ReplyDeleteHope it won't disappoint you.
DeleteMe too.
DeleteFingers crossed.
DeleteSuch a promising subject!
ReplyDeleteGlad France agrees!
DeleteYeah, I won't be tuning in for that. Not really interested in French content or set in last century, lol. That's just me, though.
ReplyDeleteBut maybe there will be some hot French soldiers in it!
DeleteDid I hear hot soldiers? I may tune in, after all.
DeleteWho could resist them.
DeleteDe Gaulle 2020? Well I must see this then.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the old movie The Day of the Jackal
Yes, both film and TV series, so you can choose which you prefer ;)
