We shall have a number of superhero news today, people! Beside recent rumours that Charlie Hunnam from PACIFIC RIM is also

being prepped for the role of The Flash in JUSTICE LEAGUE (a film which will happen only if MAN OF STEEL is a success this summer), another superhero info is that Justin Theroux is wanted for the role of DOCTOR STRANGE! Theroux already worked for Marvel before back in 2010 when he wrote the script for their IRONMAN 2! The film is supposed to come out after AVENGERS 2 in 2015 along with ANT-MAN film! DOCTOR STRANGE follows a formerly egotistical neurosurgeon, Stephen Strange who turns to the mystic arts after an accident damages his hands.

  GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

MICHAEL ROOKER IS YONDU   
I'm guessing the fans of THE WALKING DEAD will love this piece of the info - Merle has joined GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Actor Michael Rooker, who played the handless hillbilly in the zombie show, will play Yondu in the sf epic which will focus on the team of the superheroes who fight for the peace in galaxy. "Deadline" reports that Yondu hails from the Zatoan tribe on Centauri IV, the first planet to be colonized outside of the Sun's solar system in the 29th Century. Yondu does not possess any super-human abilities, but he is a skilled hunter with a bow and arrow, and has a mystical sixth sense that gives him limited empathic abilities with other life forms. Rooker joins Chris Pratt who will play Star-lord, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Zoe Saldana as Gamora!

But the treat of the day is without any doubt the first long awaited trailer for new Starz eight part epic show BLACK SAILS which will sail us into pirate waters next year! Replacing SPARTACUS next January and starring British star Toby Stephens and MERLIN knight Tom Hopper,

It seems that Johnny Depp's new movie TRANSCENDENCE is getting quite a stellar cast. After Morgan Freeman and Paul Bettany have joined the

science fiction flick, the new face among them is Cillian Murphy. The story of the movie revolves around two leading computer scientists who work toward their goal of Technological Singularity, as a radical anti-technology organization fights to prevent them from creating a world where computers can transcend the abilities of the human brain. Rebecca Hall and Kate Mara are also in the film which was supposed to have Kate Winslet as Depp's wife but she refused the role. Cillian is currently working on PEAKY BLINDERS TV series - a British gangster saga set in 1920s Birmingham.

IN 'YUKIKAZE' SF FILM 

While his current sf film OBLIVION is having a rather nice international opening this week, Tom Cruise is already preparing

another sf epic (I'm guessing his sect has something to do with his unusual love for sf) - a big screen adaptation of science fiction novel series YUKIKAZE by Chohel Kamayashi. Warner Bros. is producing the story set in the early 21st Century, three decades after an alien force known as JAM invaded Earth through a portal over Antarcica. The humans form an elite combat force to take out the alien threat on their home planet. Before that Cruise will also star next to Emily Blunt in yet another sf film - ALL YOU NEED IS KILL about a raw recruit, pressed into battle against an alien species, who gets killed in action, but he is reborn each day to suffer the same fate. 

  'THE KINGS OF SUMMER'

Here's a very cute and rather heartwarming movie trailer - the first one for delightful comedy THE KINGS OF SUMMER which opens up in theatres around you May 31st! Starring Nick Robinson (that lovely kid from MELISSA AND JOEY sitcom), Moises Arias (from Disney's HANNAH MONTANA), Gabriel Basso  alongside almost unrecognisable Megan Mullally from WILL AND GRACE, the movie follows Joe Toy who, on the verge of adolescence, finds himself increasingly frustrated by his single father, Frank's attempts to manage his life. Declaring his freedom once and for all, he escapes to a clearing in the woods with his best friend, Patrick, and a strange kid named Biaggio. He announces that they are going to build a house there, free from responsibility and parents. Once their makeshift abode is finished, the three young men find themselves masters of their own destiny, alone in the woods! The film is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Jordan, thanks for tweeting about HOLLYWOOD SPY)!

Now, here's a type of cast we do approve of: two dashing lads (today's post is mostly for our ladies) we like a lot - Matthew Goode and Matthias Schoenaerts (RUST AND BONE) are, according to rumours from 'Daily Mail', sought for the lead male roles in the new movie adaptation of famous novel by Tom Hardy FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD! To be directed by Thomas Vinterberg, the film will revolve around a wilful, flirtatious, young woman, who unexpectedly inherits a large farm and becomes romantically involved with three widely divergent men. HOLLYWOOD SPY has informed you before that Matthew Goode will headline the new TV show VATICAN playing Pope's secretary next to

Kyle Chandler. He will also play a captain in epic romance BELLE about a mixed race girl raised as an aristocratic lady in 18th Century who fell in love with a man of high social standing. All of this happens in the backdrop of a legal case that helped end slavery in England. That film also stars Tom Felton, Sam Reid, Miranda Richardson, Emily Watson and Tom Wilkinson. Next year you shall watch Matthew Goode next to Paul Bettany in DESTROYER, which follows a British Navy Captain whose ship is led into a tense situation during the Falklands Conflict in 1982 and is bombed by the Argentine Air Force defending their rightful territory.

After their success with THE BIBLE, HATFIELDS AND MCCOYS and VIKINGS shows, History Channel is preparing other scripted series: one of them will see Oscar winner Adrien Brody starring in  HOUDINI mini series following the life of the famous master illusionist! The period project will follow Harry Houdini's rise to fame. History is also preparing SONS OF LIBERTY a mini series which will follow a defiant group of young men who band together in secrecy to change the course of history and make America a nation. Together, they called themselves the Sons of Liberty and lit the spark of what would become a revolution: the American Revolution.

And I'm a bit late with this one: the first, rather funny trailer for starstudded THE WAY, WAY BACK which is supposed to open up in theatres this July starring our beloved Toni Collette next to Sam 

Rockwell, Steve Carrell (looking unusually hunky in the film), Maya Rudolph and Liam James. The movie brings the coming-of-age story of a 14-year-old introvert who spends a difficult summer vacation with his single mom, her not so warm and fuzzy boyfriend and his daughter. Having a hard time fitting in, the teen finds unlikely friendships with the prickly manager and the misfit workers at a run down water park.

It seems that one mega gorgeous and ultra talented actress in the form of Kate Winslet wasn't enough for DIVERGENT, but now another one - Ashley Judd - has joined the cast too! The movie adaptation of fantasy bestseller by Veronica Roth is set in a world where citizens are divided into five distinct factions, based on personality traits. The story follows Tris (Shailene Woodley), who is a "divergent," someone who doesn't fit into any one of the stringent factions. She discovers a conspiracy to destroy all the divergents, and must learn why divergents are so dangerous before it's too late! Ashley Judd will play Tris' mother joining Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney, Theo James and Maggie Q in the cast!

 And after the first glorious pictures from epic prequel 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE which showed Sullivan Stapleton as Themistokles, here's the first picture showing Eva Green as evil Artemisia, female general of the Persian army lead by emperor Xerxes (to be played again by brilliant Rodrigo Santoro). She pits him against the brave Greeks in the film which opens up this August and will feature tones of naval battles!

  In casting news today, two new names to join the cast of the exciting thriller ELIZA GRAVES are acting legends Ben Kingsley and Michael Caine. HOLLYWOOD SPY already reported before that the lead role went to Jim Sturgess who stars as a recent Harvard Medical School graduate, who takes an internship at a mental hospital. Once there, he becomes smitten with a patient named Eliza Graves (Kate Beckinsale). What he doesn't know is that the hospital has been overrun by its patients, who are now posing as doctors.

 Today we're spotlighting one of this summer's most anticipated science fiction movies - Guillermo Del Toro's PACIFIC RIM which is set in a near future where soldiers piloting giant robots battle against invading giant monsters who have mysteriously risen from beneath the ocean!

  PACIFIC RIM STORY 

The story of the movie is set in the near future, where giant monsters identified as "Kaiju" arise from a crevice in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in a war which takes millions of lives and quickly consumes humanity's resources. To combat this new threat, a special type of weapon is designed: massive robots, known as Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. As time passes, even the powerful Jaegers prove almost defenceless in the face of a relentless enemy. On its last stand and on the verge of defeat, the remaining defending forces of mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes — a former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) — who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the

early trials of the mechanical titans. Together, they must stand as the human race’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

  THE JAEGERS

  The main stars of the film are Jaegers, the last line of Earth's defence.  A Jaeger is a special type of mobile exosuit weapon: massive robots which are controlled simultaneously by each of its two pilot teams whose minds are locked in a neural bridge to control its every movements! There are five types of these mechanical titans, each defending one of the regions in Pacific Rim: CRIMSON TYPHOON is stationed in Hong Kong battlefield, he is the first and is the only one able to start a three-arm attack mode to fight to the death against the Kaiju, to defend the coastline of China and Hong Kong. STRIKER EUREKA is a

Jaeger designed to defend the coastline of Australia from the Kaiju. It is stationed at the Sydney Shatterdome. It contains a retractable "sting blade" on both arms laced with carbon nanotubes that channel thermal energy. It also has wings mounted on its back to maintain aerodynamic balance during turbulence in a fight. CHERNO ALPHA is a powerful Russian Jaeger defending the snowy mountain regions of Eastern Europe, while GIPSY DANGER is the American Jaeger defending North America. There's also COYOTE TANGO designed to defend Japan!  Kaiju monsters also have their names with The Trespasser being the first one to attack the Earth!

 

  PACIFIC RIM TIDBITS

Directed by Guillermo Del Toro the science fiction action, which opens up in cinemas July 12th this summer, also stars Idris Elba (whose role was originally meant for Tom Cruise), Robert Kazinsky (who, if you remember, was supposed to star in THE HOBBIT which Del Toro was previously supposed to direct), Max Martini and Ron Perlman. The visual effects are done by Oscar winners, while the music in the film is composed by Ramin Djawadi who previously worked on GAME OF THRONES and IRON MAN. Back in December it was officially announced that the work on the sequel has already started!

DELIGHTFULLY FUN "VICIOUS" SITCOM TRAILER WITH IAN MCKELLEN & DEREK JACOBI! BRAD PITT IN "FURY" WW2 EPIC! NEW SF SHOWS "RINGWORLD" & "CHILDHOOD'S END" AT SYFY!

And yet another World War II drama (that period has been quite popular for the upcoming projects in Hollywood in last two years) will be FURY which will have Brad Pitt in the lead role. To be directed by David Ayer (DISTRICT 9), and to be released in winter 2014, the film will be set at the very end of World War II, in April 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theatre, a battle hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Brad Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.

  RINGWORLD & CHILDHOOD'S END NEW SF SERIES

  Deadline reports that Syfy is working on two new sf mini series. One will be RINGWORLD, based on Larry Niven's book:  a team of explorers travels to the farthest reaches of space to investigate a

mind-blowing alien artefact called Ringworld, an artificial habitat the size of 1 million Earths. They discover the remnants of ancient advanced civilizations, mysteries that shed light on the origins of man and, most importantly, a possible salvation for a doomed Earth. The second is CHILDHOOD'S END by Arthur C. Clarke which follows a peaceful alien invasion of Earth by the mysterious Overlords, whose arrival ends all war and turns the planet into a near-utopia. Syfy has also announced that they will also adapt Philip K. Dick’s "The Man In The High Castle" and Stephen King’s "Eyes Of The Dragon" and "Darkfall" into series too. 

  VICIOUS TRAILER WITH IAN MCKELLEN & DEREK JACOBI

Now, here's a delightful trailer for hilarious new sitcom coming from British ITV - VICIOUS in which two outstanding legends Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Derek Jacobi play ageing partners Freddie (McKellen), a retired actor, and Stuart (Jacobi), a former barman. 

Earlier last winter I informed you that, created by WILL AND GRACE producers, the sitcom will revolve around friends who have lived together in a small London apartment for nearly 50 years, and love to bicker and argue and are delightfully vicious to each other!

JULLIAN FELLOWES TO ADAPT "ATLANTIS REVELATION" EPIC! "THE GREAT WAR" BBC EPIC SERIES! "GHOST OF THE PACIFIC" WW2 HORROR! ERIC BANA, OLIVIA MUNN TO "BEWARE THE NIGHT"! BBC SERIES ON 1ST AUSTRALIA SETTLERS! "SPARTACUS" ENDS TODAY FOREVER

Oh, it seems the lost ocean worlds are the new trend: with BBC already shooting their new epic series ATLANTIS ready to air this Fall, DOWNTON ABBEY's Julian Fellowes is preparing to adapt Marcus Blake's ATLANTIS REVELATION into a sf film! The first part of the book trilogy is yet to be published by Penguin this October set in a world in which Atlantis is real! The tale of the Lost City of Atlantis about the dazzling civilization, beautiful, glamorous, rich beyond measure, that was plunged beneath the sea, will be told in the thriller genre.
  

  NEW WAR EPICS

BBC is preparing two new epic series! One, so far untitled, will be set in the late 1780s and will focus on the deportation of unwanted British citizens, whores, criminals and orphans, to the other side of the world where they are to settle in Australia. The story will be told through the eyes of convicts. The second one comes in celebration of a century after the World War I. Titled THE GREAT WAR the series will follow two young soldiers, one German and one British. Each episode covers one of the years of the war and takes in all the major events including Gallipoli, the Battle of the Somme, Ypres and the entry of America into the conflict. The two soldiers meet in the last episode. The story looks at all aspects of the war - from the families left behind to the strategic decisions by generals that led to unimaginable bloodshed and the men fighting in the trenches! And even more war drama will be seen in World War 2 horror flick GHOSTS OF THE PACIFIC which will be  recounting the incredible journey of pilot Harold Dixon (Garrett Dillahunt), bombardier Tony Pastula (Tom Felton), and radioman Gene Aldrich (Jake Abel) - virtual strangers assigned to a scouting mission on January 16, 1942. When they are forced to ditch their plane, the men are left with no food, water, or supplies; only a 4x8-foot yellow life raft to keep them afloat on a dangerous ocean.
 

  BEWARE THE NIGHT

In today's casting news: Eric Bana, Edgar Ramirez and Olivia Munn have joined the paranormal thriller BEWARE THE NIGHT.

 Deadline reports that  the story centres on an Irish Catholic cop (Eric Bana) who meets a renegade priest (Édgar Ramírez) while working on a case. The priest convinces the cop that there is a demonic element at play, causing them to team up to defeat these supernatural forces. Olivia Munn is playing the police officer's wife, who also has a strange connection to the case! Meanwhile, Bryan Cranston, Rebel Wilson and Mads Mikkelsen have joined Angelina Jolie and Seth Rogen in the voice cast for KUNG FU PANDA 3! The third part in the franchise which has earned above one billion dollars so far hits cinemas December 2015!

 

  GRAND FINALE OF SPARTACUS WAR OF THE DAMNED

And don't forget that this Friday brings the last ever, good bye episode of SPARTACUS WAR OF THE DAMNED. The biggest and the most popular historical series in the history of television is coming to its finale with a tragic but glorious end for the lead hero Spartacus (Liam McIntyre) and his warriors Agron (Dan Feueriegel), Nasir and Saxa. a strange community remembering only his first name, will have Will Poulter (NARNIA: DAWN TREADER) and Kaya Scodelario (CLASH OF THE TITANS, SKINS) in the lead roles. They will play fellow prisoners who struggle to unlock the secrets of the maze that surrounds this mysterious community.
  

  MOVIE NEWS

In short casting news: Ray Stevenson has joined Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney, Theo  James and Maggie Q in DIVERGENT fantasy film set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Historical epic POMPEII has cast Jessica Lucas who will join Kit Harrington, Emily Browning and Keifer Sutherland in a love story between a slave and a slavemaster's daughter. Lucas will play Emily Browning's slave and a confidante. MATRIX star Carrie Anne Moss has also joined the epic film and will play Emily Browning's mother. Meanwhile, Disney has bought a script for LABYRINTH, which follows the journey of the mythical princess who must enter the complex and dangerous Labyrinth to save her father.

Jonas Armstrong, who played the title role in BBC's famous epic series ROBIN HOOD and whom we missed a lot, will lead the cast in the 90 minute television film which follows the ill-fated voyage of the famous The Essex ship which inspired the events in MOBY DICK novel after one of the survivors of the Essex shipwreck described his experiences in great detail giving Herman Melville material for his MOBY DICK story!  Armstrong will play First Mate Owen Chase alongside Adam Rayner (Hunted), Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones), David Gyasi (Cloud Atlas) and Joe Armstrong (The Village). At the emotional heart of the drama is orphan Nickerson's (newcomer Charles Furness) coming of-age story where he meets three powerful male role models in the captain, the first mate, and a steward. As the narrative develops his views on what makes a man switches dramatically as he sees how these role models respond under some of life's most extreme pressures.

  LUKE EVANS IS DRACULA YEAR ZERO FOR UNIVERSAL

While NBC is preparing their TV show on DRACULA with Jonathan Rhys Meyers (currently being shot in Budapest), Universal is also 

preparing their big screen version of the famous vampire story with brilliant Welsh star Luke Evans in the lead role! After playing Zeus in IMMORTALS, one of THE THREE MUSKETEERS and Bard the Bowman in THE HOBBIT THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG, Luke will, according to "Variety", play the legendary count in the new film which is a mix of mythology and true history as it follows the story of Prince Vlad, the inspiration for the Dracula character popularized by the Bram Stoker novel. Luke Evans was chosen for the role over Sam Worthington and Tom Hardy. Beside THE HOBBIT, you will also watch the charismatic Welshman in his first villainous role in FAST AND FURIOUS 6!
