ANTONIO BANDERAS
TO PLAY CONQUISTADOR HERNAN CORTES
 |
| Antonio Banderas will take the lead |
We had a series a few years ago about him, but now
Antonio Banderas will topline
CORTES historical movie portraying the infamous conquistador. Helmed by French director
Paul Mignot it will be set in 1519, beginning in Cuba, where a restless soldier hungry for glory seizes command of an expedition to the Yucatán and sails without permission. After landing on the coast of what is now Mexico, he meets Marina, an enslaved Indigenous woman and gifted linguist who becomes indispensable to his advance. As Cortés turns fragile alliances, faith, and fear into instruments of conquest, Marina watches him transform from a daring outlaw into a self-anointed messiah.
Antonio Banderas seems a strong choice for Cortés, although he has enough charisma to make even a conquistador look more attractive than he should. I am especially curious about what they do with Marina, because she could easily end up as a secondary character when she deserves much more weight in the story. This is not an easy part of history to tell without taking shortcuts, so I hope the film gives both of them all the complexity they deserve.
ReplyDeleteA historical hug, with no armour and no permission to conquer anything.
Returning the hug, did you like the Hernan series that aired a few years ago, I hated it with passion LOL
DeleteUn Banderas maturo, che interpreta un personaggio storico, viaggiatore e conquistatore, tutto da osservare.
ReplyDeleteBuona giornata
Buona giornata, Silvia
DeleteI have never been a fan of him...who plays Marina?
ReplyDeleteI am impartial to Banderas, but I cannot stand Javier Bardem and his wife Penelope. We do not know the rest of the cast yet.
DeleteI think Banderas is a good choice here. Like you, I am a bit impartial to him these days, but I have enjoyed some of his past films.
ReplyDeleteHe was good when he was younger. Before marrying that wretch Melany.
DeleteToo old. Cortes was only 34 when he landed to Maxicvo, Banderas is simply too old. He could ba a good choice IF the film started with him who told to Martìn el mestizo, the son he had with Marina, his story and then a massive flashback with a younger actor like Yon Gonzalez, Maxi Iglesias or Jaime Lorente, the age gap with Marina is too much
ReplyDeleteAntonio is very old these days. We do ever so love Yon Gonzales, Jaime not so mucho.
