BOOKISH PERIOD SET SERIES
AT UKTV'S ALIBI REVEALS FIRST IMAGES
UKTV's Alibi channel has shot a new six episode series for 2025 from Mark Gatiss who also stars as a book shop-owning sleuth and we have the first images from it. Set in 1946 London BOOKISH will
see him play the erudite and unconventional Gabriel Book, who helps the
police to solve a variety of mysterious crimes from his antiquarian
bookshop. With three main cases in the series, each storyline spans two episodes.
LONDON, 1946
is the dynamic, dangerous
and chaotic setting for this
stylish new detective drama, with the eccentric Gabriel Book at the very
heart of the story: a self-appointed consultant detective to the local
police. The thousands of books that line the shelves of his shop provide
him with all the knowledge he needs.
Book has gathered around him a host of lovable, damaged misfits whom he
informally protects, cajoles, and mentors.
WHO IS IN THE CAST?
Polly Walker will play his wife Trottie, a charismatic adventuress
whom Book loves but not physically, for they are in a ‘lavender’
marriage to conceal Book’s sexual orientation in a time when it was
illegal to be gay.
Joely Richardson, Daniel Mays, Jonas Nay, Connor Finch, Elliot Levey and Buket Kömür also star.
Blake Harrison joins the returning core cast members as Sergeant Morris, with Rosie Cavaliero, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Tom Forbes, Amanda Drew, Luke Norris, Ella Bruccoleri and Michael Workéyè. Hope we get some kind of trailer or a clip soon, so stay tuned.
Brits are good doing detective stuff. What is a lavender marriage?
ReplyDeleteBetween a woman and a man who is gay. Either to protect him, or because they are best friends.
DeleteIs it still called lavender marriage when two straight people wed but are not in love? I've been reading more and more about people getting married to enjoy the benefits that married couples get because they wouldn't survive in this economy otherwise. I just saw a Facebook post that two best friends (both girls) got married even though they aren't romantic together. They just couldn't afford life living single. I think if the economy stays this way, we'll see more and more of these types of marriages pop up.
ReplyDeleteI always say that it is difficult living single, impossible to pay the rent and everything with just one salary. Rent for a one room flat is at lowest 300 euro here and most people get 500 euro monthly salary. So how can one live with that?
DeleteOne cannot live like that alone. What we used to call the American Dream is now unattainable for most people. Rent here is actually more than my mortgage, so unless you get a roommate, you can't even get an apartment being single anymore. Allison is trying to save to move out this spring, and even with 2 other girls, I think it's going to be tight on their finances. I told Jason I fully expect her to come back home after her 1 year lease is up because the cost of living is just too much anymore.
DeleteYes, and she will have to work every day to pay everything up, from bills to rent and food.
