AMANAT EPIC MOVIE
BASED ON A TRUE STORY
Continuing our month of international epic delights, we are moving from yesterday's visit to Germany to mother Russia today where historical epic
adventure based on true persons and events AMANAT is playing in cinemas since May 26th! Directed by Rauf Kubayev and Anton Sivers it is a very interesting project as it celebrates not one of the many Russian heroes from their rich history but one of the biggest enemies of their empire, who has, never the less, been respected in Russian culture for over two centuries. This epic movie with lavish visuals and rich costumes, depicts the love story of the son of Imam Shamil, Jamalutdin (Amin Huratov) and Lisa Olenina (Varvara Komarova) against the backdrop of the dramatic events of the military history of Russia in the first half of the 19th century. Jamalutdin went down in history as a "great hostage", and the film is an attempt to answer the question: a hostage of big politics or big love. The historical context of the decline of the Nikolaev era, against which the story of love and betrayal, honor and duty, service to the motherland and loyalty to this word unfolds, will become the key to the film. Danil Strahov, Andrei Fomin as tzar Alexander II and Dmitriy Rusakov as Nikolai II also star in this epic drama. You can check out the trailer below and tell us what you think.

THE FILM TAKES PLACE
in the middle of the 19th century, during the
Caucasian War. In 1839, Imam Shamil transferred his son Jamalutdin to
the Russian Empire as an amanat or hostage.
At the age of nine, the boy became a pupil of the imperial court of
Nicholas I, enlisted in the army and became a lieutenant. The passionate
Caucasian young man fell in love with General Olenin's daughter
Elisabeta Olenina at first sight and intended to marry her. However, the
blood father confused his plans, exchanging his son for the captive
granddaughters of Georgian King George XII, and returned him to his
father's house. Jamalutdin has to make a difficult choice between his
duty to his people and honor, as well as his love and feelings for Lisa
Olenina.
DEZZY'S HISTORY LESSON
Imam Shamil, Jamal's father, was the political, military, and spiritual leader of Caucasian resistance to Imperial Russia in the 1800s, the time when the Russian Empire was expanding into the territories of the Ottoman Empire and of Persia! While Russia had managed to conquer Chechnya and Dagestan in a series of bloody conquest, Russians had developed a great respect for Shamil. Shamil's legacy continues to remain strong not just in North Caucasus but also in general Russian history. He is regarded as one of the revered warrior figures in Russia and is frequently studied by Russian academia despite his defiance to Russian power.
Thank God, it's not a film about war, but a love story in the war time.
ReplyDeleteIt is love separated by war. The saddest form of it.
DeleteThis looks yummy, but I wonder where or when will I see it.
ReplyDeleteI guess nowhere and never LOL although Yifi tends to offer Russian movies sometimes. But stay tuned tomorrow as we are travelling to France with a massive spotlight!
DeleteI'm not really into movies set into older times so I doubt I would watch this.
ReplyDeleteHistory is generally not for everyone.
DeleteI love the snapshots in to films like this.
ReplyDeleteThey had a very nice photoshoot at the sets methinks but it is interesting how I couldn't find photos of Amanat himself LOL Just that one with his love.
DeleteI'm intrigued, but my darn computer speakers aren't working so I'll have to come back to watch the trailer on my phone. I swear, if it isn't one things broken these days, it's another.
ReplyDeleteAt least it's not you that is broken.
DeleteDahlink, you know that you as well as I are as broken as they come.
DeleteTrue that.
DeleteI always enjoy your history lessons. I swear I learn more from them than I ever had in global history classes.
ReplyDeleteIt is no wonder I was once a professor, right?
