We are still at MipTV at Cannes, today with the news that France’s Oble is offering to the international buyers, a four part series THE PLAGUE, a modern adaptation of Albert Camus’ novel! Although the story in the book is set in the 1940s, the miniseries is set in 2029 in a society still recovering from the waves of COVID epidemics and that is now facing a much deadlier plague. Hugo Becker will lead the cast with Frederic Pierrot and Sofia Essaidi and the shooting starts today in France.
THE YOUNG POE
ENGLISH SERIES FROM SPAIN
Earlier this weekend I told you that Spanish production house Mediapro, who previously did The Head series and sold it to more than 90 countries

around the world, is preparing THE YOUNG POE English language series with an international cast. Based on Cuca Canals novels, it imagines Poe as a precocious, irrepressible, neurotic and highly Gothic 11 or 12 year-old in 1820 Boston, grounding in true events of Poe’s childhood the extraordinarily analytical and morbid mind which Edgar Allen Poe brings to his fiction! In the series, the young Poe sparks the interest of the local police through his precocious capacity to solve murder mysteries. He ends up becoming a faithful assistant to Boston’s Inspector Auguste Dupin, a kindred soul.
ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE
NETFLIX SERIES TRAILER
It will not stream before November 2nd, but Netflix has released first trailer for their new World War II set series ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE based on the beloved bestseller. Marie-Laure (Aria Mia Loberti and Nell Sutton), a blind French girl and her father, Daniel LeBlanc (Mark Ruffalo), flee German-occupied Paris with a legendary diamond to keep it from falling into the hands of the Nazis. Relentlessly pursued by a cruel Gestapo officer who seeks to possess the stone for his own selfish means, Marie-Laure and Daniel soon find refuge in St. Malo, where they take up residence with a reclusive uncle (Hugh Laurie) who transmits clandestine radio broadcasts as part of the resistance. Yet here in this once-idyllic seaside city, Marie-Laure’s path also collides inexorably with the unlikeliest of kindred spirits: Werner (Louis Hofmann), a brilliant teenager enlisted by Hitler’s regime to track down illegal broadcasts, who instead shares a secret connection to Marie-Laure as well as her faith in humanity and the possibility of hope. Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think.
This wildly beautiful and deeply radiant German star had first caught your eye in Netflix hit Dark, and then in German War War II movie THE FORGER in which he was forging passports for Jews. He again played a

German in the middle of the Second World War in BBC's mini seriesLIFE AFTER LIFE. Since that historical period is his specialty, he will also star in Disney's ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE series adaptation as German soldier whose path collides with a blind French teenager. Hugh Laurie and Mark Ruffalo also star. Also arriving sometime this year is MASTERS OF THE AIR series produced by Steven Spielberg, in which he plays an American bomber pilot together with Callum Turner and a massive cast with hundreds of actors. Before all of this, Louis stole our hearts in beautiful coming of age movie CENTRE OF MY WORLD in which he had beautifully graphic gay action with Sisi's emperor Franz Jannick Schumann.
MAGNETIC JONAS BLOQUET
Jonas Bloquet is 30 years old
This Belgian hunk who is both an actor and a director has caught the attention of period drama lovers first in successful French series adaptation of famous novel GERMINAL, a story about the mid' 19th century miners who are trying to fight for their rights and in which he gave a convincing performance of a man conflicted between loyalty and money. Then we also watched him in period set horror series 1899 that Netflix has recently cancelled and in which he played Lucien. Currently, if you are in USA you are watching his truly delightful work as the Austrian emperor Joseph in the PBS Masterpiece MARIE ANTOINETTEsaga where, beside ruling Austria with his mother Maria Theresa, he is also the brother of the stubborn and daft queen of France.
A SMALL LIGHT TRAILER
FOR NEW HISTORICAL SERIES
National Geographics has released a trailer for new eight part mini series A SMALL LIGHT which arrives May 1st with episodes on Nat Geo weekly
Series starts May 1st on Nat Geo
and full series streaming on Disney and Hulu. It follows the story of 20-something secretary Miep Gies (Bel Powley), who didn’t hesitate when her boss Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber) asked her to hide him and his family from the Nazis during World War II. For the next two years, Miep, her husband Jan (Joe Cole) and several other everyday heroes watched over the eight souls hiding in the secret annex. It was Miep who found Anne’s (Billie Boullet) diary and preserved it so that she and Otto could later share it with the world. The series title comes from something Gies said late in her life: “I don’t like being called a hero because no one should ever think you have to be special to help others. Even an ordinary secretary or a housewife or a teenager can turn on a small light in a dark room.”

Since the best hiding spots are in plain sight, Cioma decides to go out into the light to escape deportation. Using the identity of a marine officer he created for himself, he throws himself into the city's nightlife and even finds a fragile hope for love during the darkest moments of the war. Throughout the day he forges IDs with just a brush, some ink and a steady hand - and saves the lives of many others.
