Warner Bros has added Anya Taylor Joy to Andy Serkis directed LORD OF THE RINGS: THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM in which he will also repeat the role of Gollum. As Screen Daily reports, the film in which she will also star is a contemporary fictional drama about a fractured group of siblings who pull together under sudden and trying circumstances.

When it comes to new book adaptations, the news of the day is that Hartswood Films has bought TV rights on THE WARLOCK EFFECT Cold War thriller about a magician who flees Nazi Germany and is lured into espionage, written by Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman! Their debut book, which is effectively out in the bookshops since Thursday, centers on Ludvik Weinschenk, a boy who escapes tyranny in Germany to become the most famous magician in 1950s Britain under the stage name Louis Warlock. After preventing a woman from being burned to death on the superstition of being a witch, he attempts to re-establish his reputation by embarking on a quest to find a female villager who has vanished into the local forest, believed to be haunted by locals. But when he and his men track down the woman and her “possessed” daughters, events take an unexpected turn, and it becomes clear they do not want to be rescued.

Rival Peacock has given a straight to series order to Roland Emmerich's TV series adaptation of THOSE ABOUT TO DIE non fiction book by Daniel Mannix. The large-scale drama, set within the spectacular, complex and corrupt world of gladiatorial sports in Ancient Rome, introduces an ensemble of diverse characters across the many layers of Roman society where sports, politics and business intersect and collide. The $140 million worth series to start shooting next year in Italy, will have Saving Private Ryan's Robert Rodat as the writer. While the series will be epic in scope and have the spectacle of gladiators and chariot racing, it also has unexpected characters amidst palace intrigue and a dark criminal underworld.

Peacock has unveiled first photo and start date for their new series LAST LIGHT which will start September 8th with Matthew Fox as petro-chemist Andy Yeats who knows how dependent the world is on oil; if something were to happen to the world’s oil supply, it would set off a chain reaction: transportation would grind to a halt, supplies would cease to be delivered, law enforcement would be overwhelmed. NBC has at the same time published first teaser for the second season of LA BREA series which returns September 27th with 14 episodes. Eoin Macken and Natalie Zea lead the series about a group of Los Angelenos who disappeared into a sinkhole and emerged 12,000 years into the past. In the new season some of the characters will time travel into some other period of the past which should make the plot more dynamic. The episodes will stream on Peacock after airing on NBC.

It follows a wealthy financier who is dissatisfied by a novel based on his life and his wife’s portrayal, so he asks a secretary to ghostwrite his memoir and set the record straight. The secretary, however, grows uncomfortably aware that he is rewriting history and his wife’s place in it. Before that in LEE movie Kate will play a fashion photographer and war correspondent Lee Miller next to Jude Law, Josh O'Connor and Marion Cotillard.
