series showing us Tom Cullen as Landry, the leader of the Templars, and Mark Hamill as a battle hardened Knight Templar veteran of the Crusades

PERIOD SET TUESDAY: MARK HAMILL, TOM FORBES, GENEVIEVE GAUNT JOIN 'KNIGHTFALL' EPIC TV SERIES SEASON 2! 1ST 'DEATH AND NIGHTINGALES' BBC PERIOD SET SAGA PHOTOS WITH JAMIE DORNAN, MATTHEW RHYS

   'KNIGHTFALL' SEASON 2
GETS A NEW PRINCE AND A PRINCESS  PLUS A JEDI!
I must admit I wasn't at all excited when, earlier this year, History announced their mediaeval series KNIGHTFALL will be getting a second
Tom Forbes is the new naughty Prince of France
season, as the first one was mediocre at best, poorly written, mostly implausible with not a single likeable character (all of them were slimy, treacherous and immoral) but with the new cast additions being announced yesterday, I might change my mind and give it a go again.

KNIGHTFALL  which starred Tom Cullen as a knight Templar who is trying to solve a mystery of the Christ's chalice while also bedding French king's wife although he is supposed to be his best friend and mentor (it did see the said adulteress queen rightfully killed in the end) will now also have Mark Hamill, Tom Forbes and Genevieve Gaunt in the cast! Hamill will  be Talus, a battle hardened Knight Templar
Lovely Genevieve Gaunt is new Princess Isabella
veteran of the Crusades, who survived captivity for ten years in the Holy Land and is tasked with training the new initiates to the Order. Tom Forbes, whom we watched in Wolf Hall and The Bastard Executioner, will play Prince Louis, the violent and unpredictable son of King Philip (Ed Stoppard) and heir to the throne! Meanwhile, Genevieve Gaunt (who has just been crowned as queen Willow in The Royals) will play an older princess Isabella, the daughter of King Philip and well on her way to becoming the woman who history would call the she-wolf of France. Aaron Helbing (Spartacus: War of the Damned), is the new showrunner, taking over from Dominic Minghella.

1ST 'EMPEROR' CHARLES V EPIC MOVIE PHOTOS WITH ADRIEN BRODY, RUTGER HAUER, TOMAS KRETSCHMANN, OLIVER PLATT, PAZ VEGA! 'POLDARK' GETS 3RD SEASON WITH AIDAN TURNER

1ST 'EMPEROR' EPIC PHOTOS
ADRIEN BRODY IS CHARLES V!
Since your trusted spy is one of web's leading places for epic and historical projects, here's one, with a fresh poster, that I have to announce and it is currently in production: Lee Tamahori's 16th century epic movie EMPEROR, set for a next year release, will see Adrien Brody playing legendary Emperor Charles V, with Paz Vega as Queen Mary of Hungary, Oliver Platt as Pope Clement VII, Bill Skarsgard as Philip II of Spain, Eddie Marsan as Martin Luther, and with German superstar Thomas Kretschmann and movie legend Rutger Hauer also in the stellar cast!

LEE TAMAHORI'S EMPEROR
is an action epic about a young girl who seeks revenge on the holy Roman Emperor Charles V for the death of her father by infiltrating his royal court. It happens in a world of wealth, debauchery, violent retaliations, sex, manipulation and treason in which Charles V is trying to hold together a fragmented empire... it's the 16th century revisited!

DEZZY'S HISTORY LESSON
Charles V was a Duke of Burgundy and Holy Roman Emperor who ruled a massive Empire in which the sun never set including the Spanish Empire, Holy Roman Empire, Habsburg Netherlands and extensive territories in western, central, and southern Europe, and the Spanish colonies in the Americas and Asia where he sanctioned the conquest by Castillian conquistadors of the Aztec and Inca empires. Although the four decades of his rule were marked by many wars (mostly against France, German princes and the Ottoman Sultan) in the end he abdicated in order to live and then die in a monastery instead on a battle field.

BBC'S 'POLDARK' GETS
 3RD SEASON WITH AIDAN TURNER
Meanwhile, while we're waiting for BBC to air, beginning of September in UK and end of it in USA, the 2nd season of popular period set series POLDARK, it has been announced that the 3rd has been ordered too! The 2nd season, starring Aidan Turner will be set in year 1794: Ross Poldark must traverse new family, new loves and new battles, as the French revolution casts a shadow over life in Cornwall. Eleanor Tomlinson returns as his wife Demelza!

SPOTLIGHT ON HISTORY'S 'BARBARIANS RISING' EPIC SERIES WITH TOM HOPPER, BEN BATT AND 'CLEVERMAN' SF DYSTOPIAN SERIES WITH IAIN GLENN, RYAN CORR, FRANCES O'CONNOR

 'BARBARIANS RISING' EPIC SAGA
WITH TOM HOPPER & BEN BATT
Two programmes today that I've forgot to mention before and they are already airing, but it is never too late to catch up. BARBARIANS RISING is already on at History Channel around the world (mostly on Tuesday evenings, methinks). It is a mix of docu series with lavish live action scenes and it has a stellar cast including our beloved MERLIN and BLACK SAILS star Tom Hopper and Ben Batt whom we loved in GO BETWEEN.
THOSE WHO DEFIED ROME
Barbarians Rising tells the epic story of those who fought for independence from the world's first military dictatorship. Their names are legend, but their real stories have not been told before. Big themes will be explored through intimate, personal character profiles of history's greatest warriors, set against the violent backdrop of a world on fire. The characters include: Hannibal (Nicholas Pinnock), the brilliant military strategist and sworn enemy of the Empire who vows a blood oath at the age of 9 to avenge his father's defeat; Spartacus (Ben Batt), the slave-turned rebel who led a people's revolt against Rome's elite; Boudica (Kirsty Mitchell), the Celtic warrior Queen, a woman who commanded men in one of the most ambitious attempts to overthrow a tyrant; and Attila the Hun (Emil Hostina). Arminius the leader of the Germanic tribes is played by Tom Hopper, while Gavin Drea is Alaric the King of Visigoths!

 'CLEVERMAN' SF SERIES
CONFLICTED DYSTOPIA
Also already airing, over at Sundance TV is Australian sf series CLEVERMAN airing Wednesday evenings! Set in the near future, CLEVERMAN is a startlingly original drama rooted in Aboriginal mythology. The series depicts a deeply conflicted and anxious dystopian society, fearful of a minority group living among them, endowed with extraordinary physical traits. One young man – The Cleverman – struggles with his own power and the responsibility to unite this divided world, but he must first overcome a deep estrangement from his older brother. Iain Glen, Ryan Corr and Frances O'Connor lead the cast.
