NEW HISTORICAL MOVIE TRAILER IS HERE

The film hits cinemas this January in Russia

Back in June last year, exactly a year ago, while Hollywood was sleeping, either due to the strike of the writers, or due to the embarrassment of many of the well promoted movies flopping real hard at the box office, I transferred you over to Matushka Rossiya with the first set photos from their new historical epic movie EVIL CITY (Злой город) which gave us the first look at what the costumes will look like in this movie directed by Konstantin Buslov who is currently working on the post production. Aleksandr Metyolkin, Aleksey Guskov, Vladimir Sychyov, Viktor Dobronravov and Yuriy Chursin are just some of the names in the cast. Today you can feast your eyes on a trailer for this epic adventure which finished production last summer in a full scale city built for the purpose of the movie with over 40 buildings and more than 1000 costumes for the actors. The movie is hitting cinemas in Russia January 23rd, 2025.

 

WHAT IS THE STORY?

  During the invasion of Rus' in the 13th century, Batu Khan spent two months trying desperately to take and capture the city of Kozelsk, losing thousands of soldiers and siege weapons. And when, having killed all the defenders, among whom were women with children, he finally took the city, he ordered that the name of the city should be forgotten forever and henceforth be known only as the "Evil City". But Kozelsk has remained for centuries a model of stamina and courage, worthy of being told about it.  You can check out the trailer below and tell us what you think.

    THE FLYING SHIP  

FIRST FANTASY TALE IMAGES

Speaking of lovely young Russian actor Aleksandr Metyolkin, he is also starring in another Russian movie from which I can share the first images with you today. Set to hit Russian cinemas next January, is lavish fantasy fairy tale adventure movie THE FLYING SHIP (Летучий корабль) directed by Ilya Uchitel. Beside Metyolkin, this colourful and picturesque movie filled with imaginative sets and wild costumes will also star Andrey Burkovksiy, Leonid Yarmolnik, Kseniya Rappoport and even popular Russian pop star Polina Gagarina. She will play Lady Jane, an original role written specifically for the film adaptation of the popular cartoon based on a folk tale. The new adaptation will feature unforgettable songs by Maxim Dunayevsky and Yuri Entin since it will also have the musical element. Stay tuned with your spy as I will bring you the first trailer for the film as soon as we get it.

 

 WHAT IS THE FILM ABOUT?

The Tsar is having his daughter Zabava marry a charmingly handsome and a handsomely charming Paul, a rich heir and a foreign fancy pants. However, it's a bit of a challenge, since Zabava wants a marriage of love, not of calculation. Her unexpected encounter with sailor Ivan, a simpleton yet an honest and endearing guy, messes up Paul's plans of snatching the crown. Deeply in love with the princess, Ivan enlists help from the residents of an enchanted forest to build a Flying Ship which would then take him and his beloved away. The brave sailor is in for serious confrontation with the sneaky Paul, who's using dark magic to bring his unwanted opponent down. However, true love is going to win this battle: with the evil mastermind punished, Ivan and Zabava step aboard the magic Flying Ship and set sail towards a new common dream of theirs. It is one of the most expensive productions coming from Russia next year!
