One of the most popular writers among the fantasy fans Brandon Sanders will have his SKYWARD book turned into a TV series by Tomorrow Studios with him penning the scripts together with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen! In the book humanity is trapped on a harsh planet and constantly under attack by mysterious alien forces. The story follows Spensa Nightshade, a determined pilot who dreams of joining the fighter corps to defend humanity and redeem her disgraced father’s legacy. Blending high-stakes aerial combat, advanced technology, and themes of courage, identity, and discovery, the series explores both the secrets of the galaxy and Spensa’s growth from an outsider into a key figure in humanity’s fight for survival.

 'TOMB RAIDER' REBOOT GETS

He already played her father a few years ago in Testament of Youth War World I movie, and now he will do it again: Dominic West has been cast to play Alicia Vikander's dad in Lara Croft TOMB RAIDER reboot movie! The story itself will see her searching for her long last father Lord Richard Croft! As 'The Hollywood Reporter' writes, the movie will have Lara Croft beginning her first adventure in order to finish her father's research and uncover ancient secrets in order to clear his disgraced name. In the video game, her father is a rich archaeologist! Into The Badlands star Daniel Wu will play Lu Ren, a ship captain who helps Lara Croft throughout her journey to find her father. The movie is set for March next year.

'MISTBORN: FINAL EMPIRE'
Earlier last year I informed you that DMG Entertainment is planning to turn Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere fantasy world into a TV series and films, and now it has been revealed that one of the films from that universe will be MISTBORN: THE FINAL EMPIRE to be adapted by F Scott Frazier. The first in the fantasy trilogy has the story set in a medieval dystopian future on the world Scadrial, where supernatural mists cloud every night. Central to the series universe is the presence of magic. A street urchin with a hidden, yet powerful gift, joins the leader of a reckless den of thieves to fight a merciless immortal force as the last hope to bring peace back to The Final Empire.

'MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS'

Now this is certainly a lovely cast: as 'Deadline' reports today, Dan Stevens is to play young Charles Dickens in THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS next to Christopher Plummer as Scrooge and Jonathan Pryce as Dickens' father.

Based on Les Staniford's book, the movie will describe how Dickens wrote his famous A Christmas Carol! The story begins in October 1843, when Dickens was broke and distressed with his previous three books having failed. Rejected by his publishers, he set out to write and self publish a book he hoped would keep his family afloat, and after six fever pitched weeks, he created A Christmas Carol.

If you're into YA sf, you will be interested to know that Columbia Pictures has bought the movie rights to the last week published THE DIABOLIC by S.J. Kincaid, a mix of Red Queen and The Hunger Games: as the galaxy’s most fierce warrior, a humanoid teen masquerades as a senator’s daughter and a hostage of the galactic court. When the power mad emperor learned the young girl’s senator father is planning a rebellion, she is summoned to the Galactic Court to be turned into a hostage. The deadly humanoid assumes her identity and has an awakening as she deals with all the backstabbing and politics inherent in a crumbling empire.

Variety, meanwhile, reports that  DMG Entertainment will spend close to $300 million to turn Brandon Sanderson's COSMERE saga into three movies! These books are a mixture of science fiction and fantasy, and they unfold in a number of different worlds and time periods, but are unified by an intricate system of magic that drives the plots. The team that wrote Saw is already writing a script for THE WAY OF KINGS, the first in Sanderson's THE STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE series. Their plan is to simultaneously adapt the first book of his MISTBORN series as well!
