Paramount + Australia has announced new six part series DALLIANCE about 60-somethings who refuse to be defined by their age. When charismatic ex-cameraman Billy (Hugo Weaving) meets restaurateur
Dani (Heather Mitchell) on a Sydney Harbour ferry, their worlds collide. The attraction is undeniable, and sparks might fly… if Billy wasn’t happily married to Rose (Georgie Parker), his wife of 40 years. Billy brings Dani home to meet Rose, triggering a series of life-changing events which have far reaching consequences. Their closest friends and family are impacted; intimate relationships are formed, and others shattered. Lies are told, memories are unreliable, and absolute truths are never known. David Wenham also stars in the series about a group of friends who have history encompassing love, rivalries, jealousy and passion, but most of all connection!

DeleteTo be honest, these kinds of plots with the usual jealousy and drama are starting to feel like the same wine in a different bottle. We’ve seen it all before.
ReplyDeleteHowever, what really catches my eye is exactly what you mentioned: it’s great to see a show about people in their sixties that isn’t just about retirement or being grandparents. That fresh perspective, along with such a strong cast, is enough to keep me curious. I’m looking forward to seeing whether it truly brings something new to the table.
It is true that most of todays books and films and shows are repetitive, but what usually differentiates Australian ones is that they make them very emotional, intimate and deeply psychological. And they make them to start conversations in society, like in this one, this might start a dialogue about whether people are allowed love lives after certain age. I watch all Australian series and have never seen a bad one, some are better, some weaker, but they are always worth watching.
