Joe Johnston who is about to premiere his CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, and is also planning JURASSIC PARK 4 (in a
form of a reboot), has recently revealed to "Screen Rant" that he also wants to make a sf film about famous BOBA FETT, the character from STAR WARS. Back in the past he worked with George Lucas ( as the visual effects art director) who was his mentor and now he wants to make a feature film on the character he helped being designed. As you remember Boba Fett was a bounty hunter hired by Darth Vader to find the Millennium Falcon. Dangerous and mysterious, the character has created a cult following among the STAR WAR fans.

Vin Diesel has released a new piece of concept art for RIDDICK the sequel to his popular sf saga. It still isn't quite certain if Vin and director David Twohy will find money for the whole project.
The producers of TRANSFORMERS and REAL STEEL are planning the film adaptation of Cartoon Network's CAPTAIN PLANET. The character is known as the first eco-super hero, created back in the 90's in a show about a group of young people (The Planeteers) who combine their special powers to summon Captain Planet, an environmental superhero, to battle the world's worst eco-villains. Check out the banner for THE WALKING DEAD second season
ready to premiere in October.Gregg Rosenblum's sf book 2084 (which will be released by Harper Collins as a trilogy) will be adapted into a film about a dystopian future where robots, who were created to help humans fight wars, control humanity's every move.

I'm a bit late with this trailer which was released last week, but it's so scorching hot here in Europe that I think this clip might cool us down a bit. It's the extremely thrilling and super scary
trailer for THE THING, the direct prequel to John Carpenter's classic from the 70's, which premieres this October set at an Antarctica research site that's invaded by an "alien life form". The discovery of an alien craft brings in graduate student Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) who partners with Sam Carter (Joel Edgerton), a helicopter pilot, to hunt down this alien. It's interesting that Universal Studios Florida will open a maze inspired by the film in the form of an abandoned scientific research facility in the midst of a vast and frozen Antarctica in which guests will get an unprecedented first-hand preview of the much-anticipated thriller.
Sci-fi isn't my THING, so I can't really get too excited about any of these. Wasn't very impressed with the clip. :(
ReplyDeleteBut I love your sidebar. :)) I'll have to watch The Seeker and Merlin to see what they're all about.
So now my shirt is soaked with coffee because I jumped with that first scream.
ReplyDeleteThing makes the list!
haha They turned Kurt Russel into a chick in the remake of the Thing hahahaha. This amuses me.
ReplyDeleteyou're not? I thought that us who love history always love sf too :)
ReplyDeleteYes, watch MERLIN and SEEKER! The second season of SEEKER is better than the first one, and MERLIN is just charming with the two main actors in the roles of Merlin and Arthur.
The Thing is one of my all time favorite horror films. It has become a cult classic and it'll be interesting to see the demise of the entire Norwegian camp fleshed out. I wish they hadn't gone and put English-speaking actors in it, though. It would have been much better if they'd done the entire thing in Norwegian with subtitles. The whole American grad student thing is kind of dumb.
ReplyDeleteBoba Fett should be cool. I always liked him and wondered what happened to the kid in Clone Wars.
Ah Riddick...unfortunately with studios scrapping big projects left and right, it'll be hard for them to get funding. It's awesome artwork, though.
@MAry
ReplyDeleteoh, I also jumped with the first scream :) I'm still shaking a bit after it :)
@Lyndy
what? :)))
@Melsy
ReplyDeleteI've never seen the original. But it must be great if it's one of your all time favourites :)
Yep, I'm afraid we won't see RIDDICK any time soon but it's nice seeing the enthusiasm around it both from Vin and from the fans.
I would love to see a Boba Fett movie. I read an interesting book that Lucas authorized or at least allowed (I forget the name). It was all about Fett and it started after he fell into the toothy pit, giving flashbacks about his history throughout the story. It was great, so having the same kind of thing on the big screen would be awesome. And I'd love to see another Riddick film, though it seems Vin doesn't get as much from the industry as other action stars. It's a shame. Thanks for sharing the Thing trailer. I'm jazzed about that now too.
ReplyDeleteglad you liked the trailer and the news today, Eric.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's shame that Vin doesn't get as much attention in Hollywood as some other action stars.
Captain Planet was one my fav cartoon's in childhood, I'm so excited to hear this news.
ReplyDeleteOML :)
My dad says that the Thing (the original) was one of the scariest movies he's scene. I hope the remake lives up to that legacy.
ReplyDeleteCaptain Planet movie?! Awesome! I'd love to see a movie dedicated to Boba Fett too; I'd imagine that could be the movie to take the series down a darker path.
ReplyDeleteThe Thing trailer looks really good. But; I keep remembering the original . .
ReplyDeleteI watched a few episodes of Merlin, and The Seeker. Merlin was OK - good actors and a great story line - but a little too different from my original concept of Merlin. I'd watch it again though.
The Seeker completely offended me. I watched maybe three random episodes. The character names are the same, but the entire plot and character descriptions are totally different than the novels. Well done if you haven't read the series, but disappointing otherwise.
I may have to take a peek at Capt America though. Gotta love a man in tights :) I could totally go for Riddick.
........dhole
Great post today Dezzy.
ReplyDeleteI am very excited about a Bobba film, Walking Dead (did you see the teaser trailer?) and any Riddick film!!
Brillo!
Thanks Matey
great news, and I really like your movies you post each day!
ReplyDeleteWalking Dead is going to be epic! ;)
Whoa...very intriguing!! It kinda remind me of one of The X Files series where the 'thing' was a little worm.
ReplyDeleteWhat a choice of goodness, Riddick, Boba Fett and The Thing, excellent work sir.
ReplyDeleteJurassic Park 4 in a form of a reboot? Can't wait! :)
ReplyDelete@One More Lurker
ReplyDeleteI've never seen the animated show, but I do love the fact that it is an eco-hero and not some dark vigilante like most other heroes
@Clarissa
I haven't seen the original, but I also heard it's extremely scary as we can hear from other people too in comments above
@JAmie
yes, both projects could be interesting if they get into production which is less likely for BOBA FETT
@Donna
ReplyDeleteyes, I heard SEEKER didn't really follow the book, but I must admit I loved the show, it was lovely, charming, the actors were amazing and had mutual chemistry and the second season was even better than the first one since it had improved production, scripts and sets. The show still has a great following among the fans even though it was canceled last year.
@Custie
glad you liked the news.
Did I see the trailer? Custie, did you drink your coffee today? I've posted the trailer yesterday :)
@Magixx
glad you liked the news, and WALKING DEAD should be great indeed
@Novia
ReplyDeleteglad you liked the trailer
@Lurk
yes, this was a day for my boys - lots of male oriented news in the movie department today :)
@Jaccsy
yes, and Johnston promised a totally different direction in the reboot, different from the original films. I'm not sure what he means under that.
Boba Fett?! BOBA FETT?!?! Sign me up.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go ahead and disagree with the first comment here. While the idea may not be original, the trailer is golden, if also borrowed from ALIEN. You don't see what THE THING looks like, which lends itself a much more powerful, psychological impact on the viewer. That doesn't mean it will be good, but they will have to be very careful not to over-promise and under-deliver on it. Like Mark Zuckerberg and his "completely amazing" announcement that was an epic failure.
I see most of my boys are very excited about BOBA FETT possible movie :)
ReplyDeleteI also liked the trailer, it was wonderfully tense and thrilling, I winced a couple of times while watching it, and plus I adore polar and snow settings and isolated places in horrors.
What did Zuckerberg say? I loved him and actually found him quite adorable, until I heard he loves hunting. After that he is on my black list!
He took a lot of crap about the Facebook announcement a few weeks ago. Before the press conference, he promised their reveal would be "something awesome." And it turned out to be not as big a deal, especially after the whole Google+ reveal the week before.
ReplyDeleteWhat???? Did you??? Why did I not see this post? I am sure I popped in yesterday.....did you do more than one post?
ReplyDeleteOh Hold on, LOL It was here that I saw it!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Nice post! I've seen the original thing once and I'm not sure if i'm ready for a remake man...really? i'll check the video right now, though!
ReplyDeleteX
@Josh
ReplyDeletehaven't heard of that one, but Facebook leaves me dissatisfied more often than satisfied.
@Custie
I told you not to eat shrooms for lunch!
@XAVS
glad you liked it :) Hope the trailer was according to your taste :)
Wow, if we have to go backwards to go forward, then I'm all for it~ Amazing!
ReplyDeleteI don't get what you wanted to say, Ella :)
ReplyDeleteBoba Fett is HUGE in this household. I would most definitely see that.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see a grittier take on the Star Wars universe.
ReplyDelete@Kelly
ReplyDeletekeeping fingers crossed then, that it really happens :)
@Mary
sure you would :)
thanks! every post is a bigger surprise rich of news! can't wait to tell my friends!
ReplyDeleteglad you liked the news, Daniel :)
ReplyDeleteHello Dezz :) WOW!!! Movie only with Boba Fett this will be FANTASTIC!!!!
