Believe it or not April is just two weeks away from us and that means that the adventure we have been waiting for is ready to hit cinemas with the first part

of the planned duology THE THREE MUSKE- TEERS: D'ARTAGNAN and then the second part -  THE THREE MUSKE- TEERS: MILADY will arrive in December this year, Pathe has meanwhile released the magnificent character posters to wet our appetites! Beside that, together with Disney Plus they are also making two spin off TV series MILADY: ORIGINS which will follow the beginnings of the elegant villainess and BLACK MUSKETEER which I announced a few years ago. To be shot in French, the series will build on the experience gathered making the $80 million worth historical adventure movie saga based on Alexandre Dumas' work. First film D'Artagnan is out April 5th, the second December 13th! The film hits Russia April 6th, and parts of South America and Europe from April 13th! Both films were shot back to back! The same team is also preparing Count Monte Cristo movie with Pierre Niney in the lead role.

will follow D'Artagnan (Francois Civil), a spirited young Gascon, who is left for dead after trying to save a young woman from being kidnapped. When he arrives in Paris, he tries by all means to find his attackers. He is unaware that his quest will lead him to the heart of a real war where the future of France is at stake. Allied with Athos (Vincent Cassel), Porthos (Pio Marmai), and Aramis (Romain Duris), three musketeers of the King (Louis Garrel) with a dangerous temerity, D'Artagnan faces the dark machinations of the Cardinal of Richelieu (Eric Ruf). This new adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' 1844 novel will introduce a new character, Hannibal, based on the true story of Louis Anniaba, the first Black musketeer in French history. to settle with a much (almost dramatically) cheaper version of THE FOURTH MUSKETEER, both written and directed by Steve Lawson. The movie is available in UK on DVD market. Matt Ingram Jones plays D'Artagnan, Mollie Hindle is Milady with the most ridiculous make up ever (probably did it herself) and Ade Dimberline is Athos. Sean Cronin is Rochefort. At the behest of his father, young d'Artagnan travels from rural Gascony to Paris, where he becomes embroiled in a devious plot between the King's Musketeers and the Guardsmen of Cardinal Richelieu.

COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO ALSO IN WORKS

The shooting, which started last Autumn and will last till May, will cover Louvre Palace, the Castles of Fontainebleau and Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Fort la Latte and Chantilly, as well as the citadel of Saint-Malo. After these 60 million euro worth two movies, Alexandre de la Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte will continue to explore the work of the famous French author as the duo is also preparing a new adaptation of the Count of Monte Cristo.

If you are, on the other hand, in the mood for something woke, a chokywoky delight with a large pinch of historical revision awaits you in the first photos from MR. MALCOLM'S LIST period set costume drama movie! This Regency era drama, directed by Emma Holly Jones, sees Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù portraying the titular hero. In the film, which you can get an exclusive first look today in the photos from Vanity Fair, Dìrísù plays the dashing Mr. Malcolm, a wealthy and elegant suitor looking for a bride who meets all the qualifications he has on his list. Freida Pinto plays Selina Dalton, a woman who helps her friend Julia Thistlewaite (Zawe Ashton) get revenge on Mr. Malcolm after he rejects her for falling short of his lofty criteria. The film, which arrives to theatres July 12st this summer, is based on the book of the same name by Suzanne Allain and the cast is rounded out by Oliver Jackson-Cohen as the sociable Lord Cassidy; Ashley Park as the bubbly Gertie Covington, and Theo James as the debonair Captain Henry Ossory! Our favourite Beta Film has announced new period set 12 part drama HOUSE OF PROMISES set in the 1920's Germany and following young Vicky (Naemi Feitisch) who arrives from the provinces to a glamorous Berlin, in the vanguard of European modernity, though marked by great poverty. Pathe will hire famous directors for these shows

include large scale period drama revolving around iconic French figures, as Variety reports. Jean François Richet is already preparing for them a series on NAPOLEON, the first episode has apparently already been written with the help of Thierry Lentz, who heads the Napoleon Foundation in Paris and has written several books about him. Meanwhile, Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patelliere (who are also behind Pathé’ $73 million two part movie adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel The Three Musketeers) are creating THE BLACK MUSKETEER series inspired by the epic true story of the first Black Musketeer in French history, Louis Aniaba. The show will follow the adventures of this lesser known, yet truly heroic character who will be also be portrayed in the two-part film adaptation with Vincent Cassel, Romain Duris and Eva Green. Next two years Pathe plans to produce several upscale series of high quality.

The movies will arrive in 2023

From our spotlight on period set projects coming from France this year you already know that we can expect a series on Young Voltaire, Germinal and royal mistress Diane de Poitiers, and a film on Eiffel, but France is already planning projects for the future as well! One of them will be a new movie adaptation of THE THREE MUSKETEERS envisioned as a two movie saga coming from Pathe and director Martin Bourboulon. As Allocine reports, the films, which are to start with the shooting this summer for an early 2023 release, will focus on D'Artagnan and Milady in a story written by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière.

17TH CENTURY ADVENTURE CONTINUES THIS JANUARY

Although January often gets the title of the Sleepy Month, the upcoming one will bring us the return of the historical adventure series THE MUSKETEERS which will air the first episode of the second season on January 2nd in United Kingdom at BBC and January 17th at BBC America in USA. Although the first season left a lot to be desired (the lack of vivacious, dynamic and flamboyant atmosphere that is the essence of the Musketeers tales, uninspired stories and some truly bad acting performances), we still look forward to the new episodes to see whether the series will finally find its spirit, direction and focus. 

THE NEW OPPONENT IS HERE
Based on the classic stories by Alexandre Dumas and created by Adrian Hodges (''My Week With Marilyn'') THE MUSKETEERS were last year aired in more than 140 countries around the world! It will again be set on the streets of seventeenth century Paris, where law and order is more of an idea than a reality. The producers promise a new, unexpected direction of the plot and also the show getting much sexier! Also, instead of the Cardinal Richeleu (played in a rather lifeless, frigid and uninspired way by Peter Capaldi last year) now the four boys will have a new and deadly opponent – the Comte De Rochefort!

CHARISMATIC D'ARTAGNAN

Charismatic Luke Pasqualino returns in the role of D'Artagnan,  who finally earned the title of a Musketeer in last season. D’Artagnan is charismatic, impulsive and ridiculously brave with a fierce appetite for justice.

SEDUCTIVE ARAMIS

Brave and seductive Aramis is played by Santiago Cabrera. Charming but deadly, a great lover and a great fighter - Aramis is a man of fascinating contrasts.

RESOURCEFUL ATHOS

Always mysterious and quiet Athos is played by Tom Burke.  Athos is brave, resourceful and a natural leader of men. But he nurses a dark secret in his past.

LOYAL PORTHOS

Raising from poverty into finding a family among the Musketeers is Porthos, played by Howard Charles.  He is a great fighter, a loyal friend and a man who lives life to the full.

DEADLY MILADY

Maimie McCoy again plays Milady de Winter a deadly and merciless assassin. She is the most mysterious and beautiful of villains!

COURAGEOUS CONSTANCE

Tamla Kari returns as Constance, who, yearning for escape from her uneventful marriage, finds excitement, romance and danger when d’Artagnan comes crashing into her life.

COMTE DE ROCHEFORT

Marc Warren is tempestuous, tortured and obsessive Comte de Rochefort, who returns to the court nursing disdain for The Musketeers and will thus prove to be a deadly and manipulative opponent for them.

THE CLEVER QUEEN

Ruling the court and supporting her flimsy husband again is Alexandra Dowling as Queen Anne, who intimidates her husband with her cleverness and her wit. Will her and Aramis continue an affair in the new season?
