New docudrama starts next month

We are opening a new week with our hunkster Tom Hiddleston who is the host of National Geographic's new docudrama POMPEII: OUT OF TIME which arrives July 22nd and will be available also on Disney Plus and Hulu day later July 23rd! 

 

The three part documentary series is a fusion of cinematic scripted drama and investigative documentary storytelling that transports audiences to ancient Rome in the hours before and during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Guided by a team of archaeologists, historians, geologists and disaster experts, Tom Hiddleston uncovers remarkable evidence, and the stories of real people that challenge long-held assumptions about Pompeii and its final hours, not least revealing that many of those caught up in the disaster had the chance to survive. Following a teenage apprentice, a powerful businesswoman and a mysterious Praetorian Guard, he pieces together how each confronted impossible choices as disaster loomed. The second season starts next week

It was a successful series when it was launched at Hulu as their new Australian original about a year ago and now next week is bringing us the second season of period set series THE ARTFUL DODGER which is scheduled to arrive with new episodes this Tuesday February 10th and will again stream also on Disney Plus. As you know the series reimagines popular characters from Charles Dickens' classic "Oliver Twist" by moving them over to the penal colony of Port Victory, Australia. With Luke Bracey joining the cast as inspector Henry Boxer, Thomas Brodie-Sangster is back as Dr Jack Dawkins aka The Artful Dodger, David Thewlis as Norbert Fagin and Maia Mitchell as Lady Belle Fox. Joining the cast are also Jeremy Sims as Uncle Dickie and Zac Burgess as Phineas Golden.

BBC and Disney Plus have released a first trailer for their new five episode mini series THE WAR BETWEEN THE LAND AND THE SEA, a sf spin off of Dr. Who some five months ago, but now it has finally been revealed that the series will have a two episode premiere on BBC One December 7th and we have gorgeous new posters to prove it!

 

  THE SERIES

 is led by our gorgeous Russell Tovey as the member of the alien-busting organisation UNIT who must step into action when a fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, and an international crisis is triggered with the entire population at risk as the land and sea wage war.

The series will have five episodes

 UNIT is led by Kate Lethbridge Stewart (Jemma Redgrave), who fights for control as humanity faces destruction. Gugu Mbatha-Raw also stars but you won't recognise her under the blue make up. 

 

 

WHO ELSE IS IN THE CAST?

Ruth Madeley stars as Shirley Bingham, Alexander Devrient as Colonel Christofer Ibrahim, and Colin McFarlane as General Austin Pierce. Other previously announced cast members include Adrian Lukis, Patrick Baladi, Francesca Corney, Mei Mac, Vincent Franklin, Waleed Hammad, Iestyn Arwel, Hannah Donaldson, Manpreet Bachu, and Ann Akinjirin. As Deadline reports, our dearest Russell Tovey has joined the cast of Disney Plus new true story series SUSPECT: THE SHOOTING OF JEAN CHARLES DE MENEZES which describes the tragic shooting of an innocent man mistaken for a terrorist in London bombings twenty years ago. Edison Alcaide will play De Menezes whose death happened around two weeks after 7/7 following a second set of planned attacks, which failed but set off a manhunt. The Brazilian electrician was mistakenly shot by police at a London underground station, leading to protests, introspection over shoot-to-kill policies and fierce criticism of the Metropolitan Police. Russell Tovey will also star alongside Conleth Hill, Max Beesley, Emily Mortimer, Daniel Mays, Laura Aikman and Alex Jennings. Mortimer and Hill will play police chiefs.

Disney Plus has released first images from their new British original mini series THE STOLEN GIRL a small screen adaptation of the book The Playdate by Alex Dahl. The series tells the story of fascinating, relatable and complex women in an unimaginable situation. A seemingly ordinary decision turns the world of Elisa (Denise Gough), mum to two young kids, upside down in this tense thriller. When her 9-year-old daughter Lucia excitedly asks to go on an overnight playdate with her new best friend Josie, Elisa agrees. After meeting Josie’s mother, Rebecca (Holliday Grainger), she’s put at ease by her charming nature and their impressive house. But when she says goodnight to her daughter, she has no idea that she is about to be thrust into every parent’s worst nightmare. The next day, when Elisa goes to pick up Lucia, she discovers that the beautiful house is a holiday rental. Lucia is missing. Rebecca and Josie have vanished. What started out as her daughter’s first sleepover has turned into an abduction.
