Screen Australia has announced some new period set series that they will fund including FLORENCE a six episode series based on the true life story of the iconic and enigmatic designer Florence Broadhurst. It unpacks the life of a woman who irrevocably changed the style of Australia. When Florence was brutally murdered in her celebrated wallpaper studio at age 78, the shocking crime led to a mystery that remains unsolved today. 

 

 GRAND DAYS PERIOD SET TV SERIES

There is also a six episode series GRAND DAYS from writer Emily Balou, an extraordinary love story set against the rise and fall of the League of Nations and the hopeful vision of post-war Australia! No broadcasters announced yet for either series.

As ScreenDaily reports, Alex Marx has finished shooting his Isabella Blow biopic THE QUEEN OF FASHION with Andrea Riseborough in the lead role in the film about the extraordinary life of London-born Blow, known as a visionary fashion editor, muse, and unstoppable force who shaped the fashion industry, surrounded by a constellation of era-defining artists, designers and creatives. Dane DeHaan stars as Blow’s husband, Joe Cole as designer Alexander Lee McQueen. Michelle Dockery is British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman, Emily Beecham is Isabella’s best friend Lucy Birley. Stacy Martin is designer Daphne Guinness, and Ncuti Gatwa fashion designer at Tatler magazine, Michael Roberts. Miranda Richardson and Richard E Grant play Blow’s parents, while Fionn O’Shea and Sebastian De Souza play couture hat designer Philip Treacy and his partner. Vincent Perez also stars.

As Deadline reports the latest book to be adapted into a TV series is THEY ALL COME TO BARNEYS Gene Pressman's memoirs which are out

 this September. Joe Wright is set to direct the adaptation that will follow the three generation saga about Pressman’s family’s fashion retail empire. He was co-CEO, creative director, and head of merchandising and marketing for Barneys New York, which his grandfather Barney founded in 1923. Over eight decades under the Pressmans, first Barney, then his son Fred, then Fred’s sons Gene and Bob, Barneys grew from a small discount shop to the largest men’s store in the world, then an internationally recognized destination for men’s and women’s fashion, accessories and home furnishings. It was an American success story until ambition and risky business threatened to tear it all apart.

Velvet El Nuevo Imperio is streaming on Telemundo

After French La Maison over at Peacock, Spanish Telemundo is bringing us new fashion world set glamurous series. As of May 19th, VELVET: EL NUEVO IMPERIO is available on the Spanish streamer with our gorgeous Yon Gonzalez in the lead role. If I got it right the series will also be available on Peacock for US audience, but I am not sure. A seamstress and the heir to Galerías Velvet pursue a forbidden love, highlighting Latino generational challenges in America amid fashion and daily life. At the heart of the story is Alberto Márquez (Yon González), heir to the Velvet fashion empire, who returns home to save the family business but finds himself reigniting a romance with Ana Velázquez (Samantha Siqueiros), a brilliant young designer who dreams of redefining the industry on her own terms. Their romance sets off a chain of consequences, especially with the arrival of Cristina Otegui (Carolina Miranda), whose feelings for Alberto threaten to tear him and Ana apart.

GAUMONT TO PRODUCE A TV SERIES ON GUCCI FAMILY FASHION SAGA

SET FOR TELEVISION SERIES ADAPTATION

French Gaumont will make a TV series about the rise of the iconic GUCCI brand which will follow the company’s beginnings with founder Guccio Gucci and delve into the conflicts that ensued within the fashion family dynasty that led to the sale of their empire. Gucci family will produce the series which starts with Guccio Gucci who worked as a bellboy at the Savoy Hotel in London, where he became inspired by the luxury leather suitcases carried by British aristocrats. In 1921, he opened his first retail location in Florence and his four sons were soon brought into the family business. Aldo, the eldest of the five sons, opened the first Gucci boutique in Rome in the 1930s. His intuition and innovative use of quality materials turned Gucci into the iconic brand. Long-simmering family feuds over the course of the following decades ultimately caused the family-controlled brand to be sold in the early 1990s to French conglomerate Kering.

And it is quite a stellar trailer too. Apple TV Plus has issued trailer for their THE NEW LOOK mini series which will start streaming its ten episodes February 14th set in Paris after the Nazi occupation of the French capital when it became the heart of a fashion revival led by Christian Dior (Ben Mendelsohn) but it caused his clash with Coco Chanel (Juliette Binoche) who reigned the fashion world before that. Maisie Williams also stars as Catherine Dior, Emily Mortimer as Elsa Lombardi, John Malkovich as Lucien Lelongand, Claes Bang as Spatz with Glenn Close as one of the lead fashion editors of the time. Our French hunkster Hugo Becker also stars. Cristóbal Balenciaga, Pierre Cardin, Hubert de Givenchy and Pierre Balmain will also be featured as they were their contemporaries. Today, his fashion house is a symbol of absolute trash and absurd fashion garbage and he is most probably turning in his grave, sadly, but there were days when CRISTOBAL BALENCIAGA and his name were a symbol of innovative high style and elegance. January 19th is bringing us Spanish six episode mini TV series which will give us a chronicle of the rise of designer Cristóbal Balenciaga from humble origins to fashion icon. Alberto San Juan plays the designer with Patrice Thibaud as Christian Dior, Anne Victorie Olivier as Audrey Hepburn and Anouk Grinberg as Coco Chanel.

 When the designer presents his first haute couture collection in Paris in 1937, behind him is a successful career in his workshops in Madrid and San Sebastián dressing the Spanish elite and aristocracy. However, the designs that set trends in Spain do not quite work in the sophisticated fashion empire that Paris has become, where Chanel, Dior and Givenchy are the benchmark of haute couture. Guided by his obsession with control in all aspects of his life, Cristóbal Balenciaga will define his style and end up becoming one of the most important designers of all time. It will not arrive this year as it is set for February 14th launch at Apple TV Plus, but we have the first images from THE NEW LOOK mini TV series which will revolve around the fashion war between Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, played by Ben Mendelsohn and Juliette Binoche. The series will have a three episode premiere with the rest airing weekly till April. 

 

  THE SERIES IS SET

against he World War II Nazi occupation of Paris, and focuses on the pivotal moment in the twentieth century when the French city led the world back to life through its fashion icon Christian Dior. As Dior rises to prominence with his groundbreaking, iconic imprint of beauty and influence, Chanel’s reign as the world’s most famous fashion designer is put into jeopardy. The interwoven saga follows the surprising stories of Dior’s contemporaries and rivals from Chanel to Pierre Balmain, Cristóbal Balenciaga and more, and provides a stunning view into the atelier, designs and clothing created by Christian Dior through collaboration with the House of Dior. Mendelsohn stars as Christian Dior and Binoche as Coco Chanel, along with Maisie Williams as Catherine Dior, John Malkovich stars as Lucien Lelong, Emily Mortimer stars as Elsa Lombardi and Claes Bang stars as Spatz.

After last year's Halston, we now have two more mini series in production about famous fashion designers: beside The New Look Apple series about Dior and Chanel with Juliette Binoche, Ben Mendelhson, John Malkovich and Emily Mortimer in the cast, we also have Disney Plus  Spanish language series BALENCIAGA for which I have first photos for you today. Currently shooting with a team of 100 professionals and 2,000 extras, it tells the story of the famous designer: a man who, through his natural talent, perseverance and business acumen, dared to challenge his social status as the  son of a seamstress and a fisherman, becoming one of the most relevant designers of all times. Born in Guetaria, Guipúzcoa, in 1895, Cristóbal Balenciaga Eizaguirre (played by Alberto San Juan), known in the world and in history as Balenciaga, is considered one of the most important creators of haute couture, who carried out his work mainly in the city of Paris for more  than three decades. Before his work in the French capital he worked for various own brands in Spain. Died in 1972, he is considered the most important designer of Spanish high fashion. The six part series will also show his search for identity in the face of adversity and the challenge of social conventions over the years. He was obsessed with finding his own style among the voices that judged his work and with the loneliness that comes with being an artist! The rest of the cast will include Belén Cuesta as Fabiola de Mora y Aragón before becoming Queen of Belgium, Patrice Thibaud as designer Christian Dior. Gabrielle Lazure as Carmel Snow, the fashion director of Harper’s Bazaar. Gemma Whelan is Prudence Glynn, a journalist for The Times.Isabel Bres is the designer Jeanne Lanvin. Anna-Victoire Olivier is the actress Audrey Hepburn. Eva Blay gives life to the designer Elsa  Schiaparelli. Adam Quintero will be Ramón Esparza, partner and collaborator of Balenciaga; and Elvira Cuadrupani plays Bettina Ballard, correspondent for Vogue magazine in Paris. Thomas Coumans is playing Wladzio D’Attainville, the love of Balenciaga’s life.
