BBC One and MGM + have issued first trailer for their TV series adaptation of Charles Dickens' A TALE OF TWO CITIES. The four parter will be set in London, 1782. Tensions run high in the war between France andBritain. A young woman, Lucie Manette (Mirren Mack) has her life upended when she receives a message from Paris - her father, assumed dead for almost 20 years, may be alive. The messenger, idealistic French emigré, Charles Darnay (François Civil), is arrested and charged with treason. Lucie enlists the help of a brilliant but erratic young lawyer, Sydney Carton (Kit Harington), to free Darnay in the hope he will lead her to Paris to track down her father. Lucie’s collision with Darnay and Carton unleashes a powerful and complex love triangle. Both men fight to be worthy of her love, and Lucie is torn over which one to choose. Yet neither man - physically so alike, spiritually poles apart - can escape the other. Instead, they find themselves bound together in life and death, through triumphs, tragedies, marriage, and murder. The series will arrive September 6th on MGM+.

It was a successful series when it was launched at Hulu as their new Australian original about a year ago and now next week is bringing us the second season of period set series THE ARTFUL DODGER which is scheduled to arrive with new episodes this Tuesday February 10th and will again stream also on Disney Plus. As you know the series reimagines popular characters from Charles Dickens' classic "Oliver Twist" by moving them over to the penal colony of Port Victory, Australia. With Luke Bracey joining the cast as inspector Henry Boxer, Thomas Brodie-Sangster is back as Dr Jack Dawkins aka The Artful Dodger, David Thewlis as Norbert Fagin and Maia Mitchell as Lady Belle Fox. Joining the cast are also Jeremy Sims as Uncle Dickie and Zac Burgess as Phineas Golden.

Jack’s back! The Artful Dodger returns, and he’s in deep trouble. He’s got an appointment with the noose, he’s being hunted by Inspector Boxer, Port Victory’s new lawman, and if he sees the woman he loves, Lady Belle, he’ll be hanged.  Meanwhile, Lady Belle is determined to forge her future in medicine, defying expectation and stepping into danger, driven by ambition and a love already hanging in the balance. After several real-life twists and turns that saw the painting travel through the underbelly of the international art world, it eventually sold at Christie’s auction house in New York for $450 million, the highest price ever paid for a piece of art, and it was purchased by Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. The series endeavors to discover whether the “Lost Leonardo” is the greatest art discovery of our time, or a scam that escalated beyond imagination.

Taboo, See and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will pen this one as well following the sad story of orphan named Pip who eagerly abandons his humble origins and becomes a gentleman when his life, after a series of events, is transformed by a mystery benefactor. The story was originally published back in 1860 in a series of weekly chapters. This will be the second in a whole series of planned adaptations of Dickens' works over at BBC.

A Tale of Two Cities is getting a new adaptation

After Dickensian and Christmas Carol, we are getting a new TV series adaptation of a Charles Dickens' work. This time Jack Thorne, who wrote Radioactive and Secret Garden, upcoming films for Studiocanal, will pen a small screen adaptation of A TALE OF TWO CITIES for Legendary Global. As Deadline reports, the series is inspired by Dickens’ original publication of the novel as weekly chapters in a newspaper, and set in London and Paris during the French Revolution. It tells the story of French doctor Manette, his 18-year long imprisonment in the Bastille in Paris and his release to live in London with his daughter Lucie, whom he had never met.
