Hoult is also Nikola Tesla in The Current War
JRR TOLKIEN, the author of mankind's most beloved epic fantasy tale Lord of the Rings, is today getting a new angle, as the speculations that young Nicholas Hoult might be playing him, have started spreading around the web. 'The Hollywood Reporter' says that he is already negotiating with Fox Searchlight and Chernin Entertain- ment who are producing. This is interesting since Hoult is already playing another writer in his youth - J.D. Salinger in upcoming biopic Rebel in the Rye! TOLKIEN will take place at the outset of WWI following the orphaned author as he befriends a group of outsiders at school just in time for the war to threaten to tear them apart. As you know, the man who invented the Middle Earth was the author of The Hobbit, Silmarilion and Lord of the Rings sagas which became Hollywood blockbusters.

1ST TRAILER & PHOTOS FOR PERIOD SET SERIES 'ALIAS GRACE' WITH SARAH GADON, ZACHARY LEVI, EDWARD HOLCROFT! 1ST PHOTOS OF DAN STEVENS AS DICKENS IN 'THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS'

'ALIAS GRACE' TRAILER FOR
SARAH GADON MINI SERIES
While some of you are enjoying the new television version of The Handmaid's Tale, another of Margaret Atwood's small screen adaptations ALIAS GRACE has just got the first trailer and first photos for the mini series that will launch September 25th at Netflix and CBC in Canada.
A 19TH CENTURY MYSTERY
The six part mini series follows Grace Marks (Sarah Gadon) a poor, young Irish immigrant and domestic servant in Upper Canada who, along with stable hand James McDermott (Kerr Logan), was convicted of the brutal murders of their employer and his housekeeper in 1843. James was hanged while Grace was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1843. Grace claimed to have had no memory of the murder yet the facts were irrefutable. A decade after, Dr. Simon Jordan tried to help Grace recall her past. Grace was one of the most enigmatic and notorious women of her time for her supposed role in the sensational double murder, but was eventually exonerated after 30 years in jail. Her conviction was controversial and sparked much debate about whether Grace was actually involved in the murder or merely an unwitting accessory. Zachary Levi is also in the cast alongside Reign's Michael Therriault and Edward Holcroft as the doctor! Atwood has a cameo in the series!

'MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS'
DAN STEVENS PICS AS DICKENS
There are also the first pictures from another period set project, this time a movie starring Dan Stevens as Charles Dickens! THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS also stars Christopher Plummer as “Scrooge” and Jonathan Pryce as Dickens’ father.
THE BIRTH OF CHRISTMAS CAROL
October 1843. Charles Dickens was broke and distressed. Despite early success, his last three books had failed. Rejected by his publishers, he set out to write and self-publish a book he hoped would keep his family afloat. This is the story of the six fever-pitched weeks in which Dickens created A Christmas Carol, the masterpiece that changed the holiday into the merry family event we know today.

CHRIS PINE TO PLAY ROBERT THE BRUCE IN 'OUTLAW KING' SCOTTISH EPIC! GLEN COOK'S 'THE BLACK COMPANY' SAGA TO BECOME EPIC FANTASY TV SERIES! 'THE EXCEPTION' TRAILER WITH JAI COURTNEY, CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER

CHRIS PINE IS 'OUTLAW KING'
ROBERT THE BRUCE EPIC

Now here's something wonderfully epic for you today: as 'Deadline' writes, a new Robert the Bruce epic movie is planned in Hollywood and Chris Pine is to wear the Scottish kilt! Netflix is to shoot OUTLAW KING epic period drama that will tell a different version than Braveheart did on Robert The Bruce, the king who led his country to freedom from the oppressive rule of England in Scotland. Ben Foster (who proved to be a very bad choice for epic roles with his under whelming performance in Warcraft) is apparently in talks to play James Douglas, the Scottish knight who became the king’s chief adviser. Beside depicting his efforts to gather the forces against Edward II, the movie will have a love story as well between him and his queen Elizabeth de Burgh who gave him strength to push out the English army.

'THE BLACK COMPANY
EPIC FANTASY TV SERIES
If you wondered what is David Goyer up to after Da Vinci's Demons, he is to executive produce a TV series out of epic fantasy novel saga THE BLACK COMPANY from Glen Cook with Eliza Dushku expected to play the dark sorceress The Lady, as 'Deadline' reports.
The ten book saga follows THE BLACK COMPANY, an elite mercenary unit that carries out the often nefarious deeds of the highest bidder across a Tolkienesque landscape. When these hard bitten men discover the prophecy that the embodiment of good has been reborn, they must re-examine their loyalties. The Lady, who rules over the Northern Empire, uses the Black Company to further her domination of a power structure rife with usurpers.

'THE EXCEPTION' TRAILER
STARRING JAI COURTNEY AND CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER
Meanwhile, the first trailer has finally been released for historical drama THE EXCEPTION starring Christopher Plummer and our most beloved Jai Courtney and scheduled for theatrical release this June! It sees Jai playing  a German soldier who tries to determine if the Dutch resistance has planted a spy to infiltrate the home of Kaiser Wilhelm in Holland during the onset of World War II, but falls for a young Jewish Dutch woman during his investigation. Ben Daniels and Janet McTeer also star in the period set thriller action historical drama!

Based on Les Staniford's book, the movie will describe how Dickens wrote his famous A Christmas Carol! Rejected by his publishers, he set out to write and self publish a book he hoped would keep his family afloat, and after six fever pitched weeks, he created A Christmas Carol.

  'THE DIABOLIC' SF YA NOVEL

If you're into YA sf, you will be interested to know that Columbia Pictures has bought the movie rights to the last week published THE DIABOLIC by S.J. Kincaid, a mix of Red Queen and The Hunger Games: as the galaxy’s most fierce warrior, a humanoid teen masquerades as a senator’s daughter and a hostage of the galactic court. When the power mad emperor learned the young girl’s senator father is planning a rebellion, she is summoned to the Galactic Court to be turned into a hostage. The deadly humanoid assumes her identity and has an awakening as she deals with all the backstabbing and politics inherent in a crumbling empire.

   SANDERSON'S 'COSMERE
TO BE TURNED INTO MOVIES
Variety, meanwhile, reports that  DMG Entertainment will spend close to $300 million to turn Brandon Sanderson's COSMERE saga into three movies! These books are a mixture of science fiction and fantasy, and they unfold in a number of different worlds and time periods, but are unified by an intricate system of magic that drives the plots. The team that wrote Saw is already writing a script for THE WAY OF KINGS, the first in Sanderson's THE STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE series. Their plan is to simultaneously adapt the first book of his MISTBORN series as well!

Her cousin Morwenna will work as a governess at George Warleggan's estate to help her sisters and her mother, but will find out that there may be more important things in life than a sense of duty. Harry Richardson, who was positively delightful this winter in Doctor Thorne, is her brother Drake, a good natured free-spirit who is searching for his own place in the world and is unwilling to settle for anything, especially when it comes to his romantic life. Tom York, whom we watched in SyFy's godawful crap of a show Olympus is Demelza's other brother Sam, who wants to follow in his father's footsteps and spread the word of the Methodists. Only, it may prove a little hard to stick by his convictions when his own brother falls so easily into the way of temptation.

'INTERLUDE IN PRAGUE
JAMES PUREFOY & ANEURIN BARNARD IN MOZART FILM
We're continuing our period set projects weekend today with first pictures coming from some of the new period set movies we're anxiously awaiting to see in the future, beginning with first photos coming from INTERLUDE IN PRAGUE a directorial effort of John Stephenson who is known as the special effects supervisor in Babe, English Patient, 101 Dalmatians, The Flintstones and many other classics. This time he directs a story of Mozart starring James Purefoy and Aneurin Barnard.
MURDER AND SCANDAL
Appropriately shot in the Czech capital this costume drama portrays a few turbulent months in the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the famous 18th century composer. A love story and a tragedy of epic proportions stars Aneurin Barnard (The White Queen, War & Peace) as the composer at a time when has been brought to Prague by the vain and self obsessed Baron Saloka. The evil aristocrat is played by James Purefoy, who himself isn't a stranger to costume drama having starred in Rome, Roots, Hollow Crown, Kamelot and many other period set series. Morfydd Clark, who recently starred next to Cate Beckinsale in Love and Friendship plays the beautiful soprano Zuzanna Luptak, who is betrothed to Saloka but falls in love with Mozart. Saloka, a psychopath, sexual predator and serial rapist, develops an overwhelming hatred that results in callous brutality and murder. Les Miserables Samantha Barks also stars.

FIRST 'THE EXCEPTION' PHOTOS
WITH CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER, JAI COURTNEY, LILI JAMES
A few photos are also available from World War One epic drama previously known as The Kaiser's Last Kiss and now THE EXCEPTION in which Academy Award winner Christopher Plummer and Janet McTeer lead the cast of the adaptation of Alan Judd’s novel The Kaiser’s Last Kiss, about German Kaiser Wilhelm II’s post-WWI exile in the Netherlands. The young cast is lead by Spartacus' superstar Jai Courtney and War and Peace's Lily James. Ben Daniels and Eddie Marsan also star.  Jai Courtney is a German soldier who tries to determine if the Dutch resistance has planted a spy to infiltrate the home of Kaiser Wilhelm in Holland during the onset of World War II, but falls for a young Jewish Dutch woman during his investigation.

'ALI AND NINO
FIRST EPIC MOVIE PHOTOS
A few photos have also arrived from another big screen adaptation of a beloved book ALI AND NINO by Kurban Said which was showed at Sundance and is awaiting it's theatrical release. Directed by Asif Kapadia and starring international stars Adam Bakri, Maria Valverde and Connie Nielsen, it follows ALI AND NINO upper class teenagers living in Azerbaijan just before the outbreak of World War I. He is Muslim, and she is Christian, but despite their cultural differences, they love each other and get married despite the disapproval of their parents. When Ali takes her to spend several months in Persia, she realizes how much her freedom is being constrained. The clash between East and West and between traditional Muslim life and the twentieth century independence of her upbringing is very striking. Then the Great War breaks out, and things take a turn for the worse.
