NEW PERIOD SET SERIES
UNCHAINED FROM FRANCE
I have two new international period set series for you today, starting with French series UNCHAINED (Enchaines) which will, according to Variety, be presented internationally at this year’s Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Le Havre. It is set in 1806 on Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean, where, in the wake of a
deadly cyclone, Charles Bellevue’s plantation lies in ruins. Bankrupted, he’s forced to sell his lands and slaves, who fear being torn apart. Among them, Isaac refuses to accept his fate. He’s just discovered that Charles Bellevue is
not merely his master but also his father. Fueled by rage and an insatiable desire for freedom, Isaac persuades Charles to keep the plantation. Impressed by his resolve, Charles appoints him as overseer. Now, Isaac must balance his newfound power with his urge to protect his people.

THE NEW FORCE FROM SWEDEN
There
is also a Swedish period set drama that will be available for streaming
over on Netflix from October 3rd. Titled THE NEW FORCE it
is set in the
year 1958, with Sweden’s first female police officers graduate, a small
group of pioneers, taking a big step for gender equality but struggling
to
take even the smallest step themselves, as the skirts they’re forced
to wear chafe like sandpaper against their thighs. They are ridiculed
by the public,
belittled by the media, and scorned by their colleagues.
The new recruits are placed in the country’s most crime-ridden district,
the Klara police district in
Stockholm, and as they start patrolling
the streets of Stockholm, they soon realize that their biggest problem
isn’t the criminals - instead, the resistance comes from colleagues and
the society as a whole.
