COMING THIS EASTER TO ARD AND ORF

German national broadcaster ARD and the Austrian one ORF have teamed up on new Franz Kafka mini TV series titled simply KAFKA. The new six parter will start airing March 25th in the year that marks a hundred years since his death. Based on the three part Kafka biography by Reiner Stach, the series follows Kafka’s (Joel Basman) difficult relationship with his father (Nicholas Ofczarek) and his love affairs with Felice Bauer, Milena Jesenská (Liv Lisa Fries) and Dora Diamant, but also his close friendship with Max Brod (David Kross).

 

IN THE NEW MINI TV SERIES 

Kafka's vacation spot, already ravaged by tuberculosis, is transformed in his imagination into the dark and mythical village of his last and most famous novel, “The Castle”. But he also meets his last great love, Dora Diamant (Tamara Romera Ginés). The two lived in Berlin for a few months and spent Kafka's last days together in the Kierling sanatorium outside Vienna. Franz (Joel Basman) grew up as one of many children in a Jewish middle-class merchant family in Prague. He became enthusiastic about writing from an early age and wrote several texts. One of his best friends, Max Brod (David Kross), is his greatest admirer and encourages him to keep publishing his texts. He himself is a respected writer and full of energy and drive. He believes in Kafka's talent and drives him tirelessly. He is known for his many affairs and his warm-heartedness, which could hardly distinguish him from his shy friend.

The latest sf classic to be turned into a TV series is Brian W. Aldiss' 1958 novel NON-STOP which is to be directed by Doctor Who helmer Jamie Magnus Stone for Aircraft Pictures who will be offering it to buyers next week at Series Mania.

   Set in a distant future, NON-STOP tells the tale of Roy Complain, a man born into a primitive society only to discover his tribe is one of many aboard a colossal spaceship. This knowledge sets Complain and his band of intrepid explorers on a perilous journey through uncharted territories to find the ship’s bridge, as they unravel the mysteries of their new world and confront the looming threat of their own annihilation.

Well they usually have just nine, which is eight more than us, but in Sky's new animated comedy movie cats have 10 LIVES as you will see this spring when it hits the UK streamer April 5th with a stellar voice cast which includes Bill Nighy, Mo Gilligan and Zayn Malik who also created the music in this wonderful adventure.

MO GILLIGAN lends his voice to Beckett, a pampered and selfish cat who totally takes for granted the lucky hand he has been dealt. All that is about to change, however, when he carelessly loses his ninth life. Faced with the inevitable, he pleads to be allowed to return to his perfect life. In a moment of exceptional empathy, the Gatekeeper allows him to return to earth with a new set of lives but not quite in the same body…. What he doesn't realise immediately however is that each of these new lives will see him return in a variety of different forms each one teaching him a valuable and timely lesson. It is a journey that sees Beckett turn from gloriously self-absorbed pet to a self-sacrificing hero; because sometimes you must travel many different roads to find the very best version of yourself! Christopher Jenkins both wrote and directed this animated treat.  ​

When things start to take a sinister turn she is forced to lie, and quickly finds her life falling to pieces. She risks everything to right the wrongs that she has, in part, been responsible for. Will Mellor and Emmett Scanlan will play her husband and her lover in the four parter.

Netflix has announced some brand new series tonight including an hour long mini series BLACK RABBIT with Jude Law and Jason Bateman who will also direct a few episodes of the new series. In it, when the owner of a New York City hotspot (Bateman) allows his turbulent brother (Law) back in his life, he opens the door to escalating dangers that threaten to bring down everything he’s built.

Meanwhile, Netflix has also given a role of twins to Jamie Dornan in their new UK original series THE UNDERTOW a crime noir series that will see the Irishman play identical twins Adam and Lee. Suffocating in a loveless marriage to Adam, Nicola (Mackenzie Davis)’s life takes a dramatic turn when Adam’s long-estranged identical twin brother Lee comes crashing back into her life, and their tangled romantic past threatens to destroy the present.

Today we have an exclusive first image from the upcoming new historical series COOLIE showing Louise Wong and Mauricio Henao in the limited series set in the 1860’s, which follows a young girl (Wong) who sets off from China to marry a political exile working on a sugarcane plantation in Cuba. She finds the plantation owner (Henao) plotting for independence from Imperial Spain, aided by Chinese workers and African slaves seeking freedom, while the landowner’s spurned wife and her old lover conspire against them all.
