BY THE KING'S FAVOR
PERIOD SET QUEER COURT DRAMA FILM
Continuing our spotlight on new period set international dramas, today we are in France with historical movie BY THE KING'S FAVOR which unfolds within the court of Henry III (Theodore Pellerin), the 16th century French king and son of Catherine de’ Medici, who navigated the Wars of Religion with the support of his all-male courtiers, the so-called “mignons,”
long rumored to be his lovers. It centers on a tense love triangle between the king, his chief advisor Odon (Felix Kysyl), and a young milliner, Jean-Baptiste (Filippo Scotti), whom Odon brings to court to replace the king’s previous favorite. In doing so, Odon commits a forbidden act: he falls for the newcomer, forcing him to navigate the treacherous line between desire and loyalty.

ReplyDeletebut why would there ever be official documents on anyone's gayness? It is just not something you would proclaim officially in those times. It would not be remembered by the people if it wasn't true. Literally every writer who ever wrote on him mentions that he indeed was gay. And what problem do you have with it, it is natural and lovely, nothing wrong about it, love can never be something bad. I am very much looking forward to this one even though the cast does not really excite me much.
I just hope there ain't too much sex scenes there...

ReplyDeleteI truly hope there is.
Thank you so much for sharing about this, Dezmond.
ReplyDeleteBe welcome, Linda
DeleteUn racconto elegante e intenso, dove il potere si intreccia ai sentimenti e ogni scelta lascia un’eco profonda nell’animo.
ReplyDeleteBuona domenica
I think it will be very intenso.

DeleteIt's sad to think that shit hasn't changed much since the 16th century and saying gay is forbidden. We have a rapist pedophile for a president and many of our male congress members are exposed for crimes against women and children as well as sniffing out other males on grindr, but god forbid two people of the same sex fall in love and want to live a happy life, it's bad. I want to hope by the next century we'll have wised up, but something tells me the bigots are always going to have a problem with gay lovers no matter how much time goes by.
