Published in 2015, it is set on the Mediterranean island of
Mallorca, a love story and a mystery, told in reverse. It begins in the
present day with the death of an older married couple who fall from one
of the island’s many cliffs after an argument. The story then rewinds
through time following the intertwined lives of the duo and their
families over the course of half a century.

Italian broadcaster RAI, that brought us Medici: Masters of Florence last year, has teamed up with HBO on eight part series MY BRILLIANT FRIEND based on the best selling book by 
Elena Ferrante. It will be shot in Italian with English subs for USA.

MY BRILLIANT FRIEND is a story about the strength of female
friendship. When the most important friend in her life seems to have
disappeared without a trace, Elena Greco, a now elderly woman immersed
in a house full of books, turns on her computer and starts writing the
story of their friendship. She met Raffaella Cerullo, whom she has
always called Lila, in primary school in 1950. Set in a dangerous and
fascinating Naples, their story thus begins and goes on to cover over 60
years of their lives, trying to describe the mystery of Lila, Elena’s
brilliant friend and, in a way, her worst enemy.
