TREASURE AND DIRT FROM ABC, BBC

A couple of new Australian dramas for you today, starting with ABC's TREASURE AND DIRT which will also air on BBC in UK starring Michael Dorman and Liv Hewson. He plays homicide detective Ivan Lucic who is sent to investigate the mysterious and grisly murder of a miner in an Outback opal town. Joined by rural detective Nell Buchanan, the two are drawn into a labyrinth of secrets, greed and old sins that won’t stay buried. As the case twists into something darker and more surreal, Ivan and Nell can’t tell whether it’s the town that’s unravelling or themselves. Eamon Farren and Dean O’Gorman also star.

 

 DUSTFALL WITH ANNA TORV

Also coming from ABC and also to air on BBC One as well next year is another six part drama DUSTFALL a propulsive, atmospheric Tropic Noir that follows Anna Torv as a detective whose deep sense of justice is challenged by a world where victims are doubted, predators hide in plain sight, and the legal system too often falls short. When seasoned detective Tig, returning to her hometown of North Gap after years in the city, uncovers a string of drink spiking assaults, the case is turned on its head when one of the main suspects is murdered. Juliet Stevenson and Jay Ryan also star.

It was previously known as Desert King but will now stream as TERRITORY from October 24th with Newsreader's Anna Torv and Vikings: Valhalla's Sam Corlett in the lead roles. This six episode neo-Western series will also star Michael Dorman and Robert Taylor, next to Clarence Ryan, Dan Wyllie, Jay Ryan, Philippa Northeast, Joe Klocek, Kylah Day, Sam Delich, Hamilton Morris, Tuuli Narkle, Tyler Spencer, and Jake Ryan. New series Scrublands starts November 16th on Stan

SCRUB LANDS, a new original from Australian streamer Stan, based on Chris Hammer’s bestselling and award winning novel. This captivating drama has Luke Arnold and Jay Ryan in the lead roles.

 

THE SERIES IS SET

 in Riversend, an isolated and struggling country town in rural Victoria, where charismatic and dedicated young priest Byron Swift (Jay Ryan) calmly opens fire on his congregation, killing five parishioners. One year later investigative journalist Martin Scarsden (Luke Arnold) arrives in Riversend to write what should be a simple feature story on the  anniversary of the tragedy. But Martin finds a town deeply scarred and hostile to journalists - local bookstore owner Mandy Bond (Bella Heathcote),  Constable Robbie Haus-Jones (Adam Zwar) and widow of one of the massacre victims, Fran Landers (Victoria Thaine) give him short shrift. When Martin’s investigative instincts kick in and he digs beneath the surface, the previously accepted narrative begins to fall apart and he finds himself in a life and death race to uncover the truth. Series will also air in UK on BBC Four and iPlayer from November 18th.
