NEW ADVENTURES COMING OUR WAY: "CHINESE ODYSSEY", "POWER OF THE DARK CRYSTAL 2", "UNCHARTED: DRAKE'S FORTUNE"

Now if you like action-adventures and fantasy you will enjoy a whole slate of new projects from the respective genre.
"The Jim Henson Company" is planning to shoot the fantasy sequel, "Power of the Dark Crystal" in 3D. This highly anticipated film will be one of the most ambitious Australian projects ever. Peter and Michael Spierig ("Daybreakers") will direct this mix of live action and traditional puppetry combined with visual and special effects. Set hundreds of years after the events of the first movie when the world has once again fallen into darkness, "Power of the Dark Crystal" will follow the adventures of a mysterious girl made of fire who steals a shard of the legendary Crystal in an attempt to reignite the dying sun that exists at the center of the planet.

Rob Minkoff, who directed "Forbidden Kingdom" will helm the 3D English-language action-adventure fantasy "Chinese Odyssey", according to "MovieWeb". It will be a supernatural high-seas adventure that pits the hero against an onslaught of deadly foes on the path to fulfilling his destiny. It's a story involving ancient mysteries, deadly sea monsters, great characters and larger-than-life adventures.

Meanwhile, the adaptation of the video game "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" has a possible new director in David O. Russell. The studio is apparently happy with the script, and is ready to move ahead with the production. The film will follow a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nate Drake who believes he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue. The search becomes competitive when a rival hunter joins the fray, then mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis begin attacking those hoping to learn the treasure's true secrets.

HAWAIIAN HISTORY IN "PRINCESS KAIULANI"

Here's a great historical story for a Sunday afternoon, Hawaiian historical biopic "Princess Ka'iulani" a breathtaking romance about an unlikely heroine and her unwavering fight to defend the independence of her people.
In 1888, Hawaii was a paradise teetering on the brink of civil unrest. The tide had turned against the long-incumbent royal family, under the malevolent influence of a rebel party with links to the American government. Within months, the Palace was overthrown, and the royals exiled. Among them was the beautiful Princess Kaiulani (Q'orianka Kilcher). Scarcely 13 years old, she was separated from her family and her homeland and for her own safety, sent to a climate and a country that couldn’t be more different from Hawaii - Victorian England. Coming to terms with her fate, Kaiulani underwent a harsh and testing education that equipped her with a sense of honor, duty and pride. What's more, she fell in love, with the spirited and rebellious young Englishman, Clive Davies. Emerging from her childhood, and inspired by her blossoming romance, Kaiulani realized she had to bring an end to the injustices suffered by her people and set to sail for America, to meet President Grover Cleveland, to prove that she and her people were not the “barbarians” portrayed by the American press (the proof how American government's attitude toward other countries which they see as barbarian was and is always the same, hm?).
Starring also Barry Pepper and Will Patton, "Princess Kaiulani" combines the profound natural beauty of Hawaii with the sweeping romance of a classic Merchant Ivory epic.

BRANDON ROUTH AS DYLAN DOG IN "DEAD OF NIGHT"

Have you been a fan of Dylan Dog comic back in your childhood? Those comics were quite popular here in Europe, and this year we will have a new chance to see Dylan Dog at the big screen in "Dead of Night".
Based on the best-selling Italian comic book series "Dylan Dog", created by Tiziano Sclavi and sold in more than 56 million copies worldwide, "Dead of Night" stars Brandon Routh ("Superman Returns") as Dylan - a private investigator who is drawn into the world of the undead, but in the movie he will be seeking out the monsters of the Louisiana bayou in his signature red shirt, black jacket, and blue jeans. Brandon Routh will have the help of Taye Diggs and Sam Huntington in the cast. Even before its premiere, this movie faces a possible boycott since most fans believe that in this case a beloved European comic book could be turned into a bad Hollywood movie. What do you think? Up for it or not? And will it help you if I tell you the director is Kevin Munroe known only for his directorial work on "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" :)

ADORABLE RUSSIAN 3D FANTASY MOVIE "RORRIM BO AND THE MAGIC GOBLET"

Over at the headquarters of my buddy Jaccsy, the innkeeper of "Buzzes Cafe", I came across this positively lovely Russian fantasy blockbuster coming out to Russian cinemas this year. It's called "Rorrim Bo and the Magic Goblet" (Волшебный кубок Роррима Бо) and is apparently one of the first Russian films created entirely in 3D.
Here's the plot as far as I've managed to translate it from Russian: Long ago, the inhabitants of a fantasy world, have chased away an evil witch Vergilda to our world and imprisoned her in the Magic Goblet, where she languished for 500 years until the workers in a Pioneer camp found her while preparing for the New Year's Eve and accidentally let her out. Weakened by centuries of bondage, the Witch moved into the body of the unsuspecting senior Pioneer, and now she needs to feed on someone else's fears to rebuild her force and return to the magical country. Off course, the camp is full with children who like telling horror stories and scaring each other, not knowing that they are helping the Witch in her horrible plans. The only one who can save them is Rorrim Bo the son of the hero who had put the Witch into the Goblet many years ago. The only problem is that Rorrim Bo is not so brave as his father, and is afraid of everything in the world .... Check out the teaser:

DREAMWORKS' FANTASY "I AM NUMBER FOUR" CASTING UPDATES

In recent few days we've heard about a whole bunch of new actors joining the cast of DreamWorks' sf adventure "I Am Number Four". Helmed by D.J. Caruso it will tell a story about a group of nine earthbound aliens who escaped their planet just before it was annihilated by a rival species. Hiding out on Earth, disguised as a human teenager in high school, the title character discovers that he is being hunted by the enemy that destroyed his planet.
Kevin Durand will play "The Commander" who chases aliens Number Four (Alex Pettyfer) and Number Six (Teresa Palmer) to Earth from their alien planet. Gorgeous Dianna Agron from "Glee" has also signed on for a role in the film. Young Callan McAuliffe will play the role of Sam, who becomes Number Four's best friend. The script of the fantasy action was written by the creators of popular TV show "Smallville".
You will be seeing charismatic Alex Pettyfer this summer in "Beastly", while gorgeous Australian actress Teresa Palmer will appear in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and is connected to "Mad Max 4" as well. You can watch good old Kevin Durand this summer in "Robin Hood" as Little John.

NEW POSTERS: "JONAH HEX" AND "SEX AND THE CITY 2"

Yes, yes, you all know Saturday is the day for fresh new posters. Today you can feast your eyes on the third "Sex and the City 2" poster, but this time with all the girls, although I strongly recommend you not to stare too much into Sarah Jessica Parker's Photo-shopped face, since you might get nightmares.
The other one is for "Jonah Hex" fantasy/action/western coming out this June, in which the U.S. military makes a scarred bounty hunter with warrants on his own head an offer he cannot refuse: in exchange for his freedom, he must stop a terrorist who is ready to unleash Hell on Earth. As you know the movie stars Josh Brolin, Michael Fassbender, John Malkovich and Megan Fox.
