HOLLYWOOD SPY'S GUIDE THROUGH ALL THE BEST NEW TV SERIES LAUNCHING AUTUMN 2024 ON THE SMALL SCREENS

 AUTUMN TV SCHEDULE
NEW SEPTEMBER 2024 TV SERIES
Unlike some previous seasons, this one has a very bleak start, I think we are finally feeling the consequences of the actors' strike. So not much to report when it comes to new series this September. Netflix will launch THE PERFECT COUPLE on September 5th with Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber as a rich family that unravels after a body washes up right outside their family home. Channel 5 has set September 9th date for the second season of THE TEACHER series about a teacher whose pupil goes missing. Apple TV is launching their fashion house set series LA MAISON September 20th with Lambert Wilson as the head of the house whose rival wants to take it from him. Over in Britain ITV will air their mini series PLAYING NICE with James Norton and Niamh Algar as one of two couples who discover their toddlers were switched at birth. I hear it will start September 19th, while BBC will air their NIGHTSLEEPER series September 15th. This real-time thriller is set on a runaway sleeper train travelling from Glasgow to London.

NEW OCTOBER TV SERIES
October is, meanwhile, stuffed with newbies starting October 2nd when Australian series LAST DAYS OF THE SPACE AGE starts set at the moment when American space station Skylab crash lands on earth just outside an Australian city, as it is gearing up to host the Miss Universe pageant. October 10th brings TEACUP to Peacock. Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman lead a group of people desperately trying to grapple with forces far beyond their control. A day after Apple TV has Cate Blanchett in DISCLAIMER in which she plays a journalist who has the tables turned on her by a mysterious novel, written by Kevin Kline, which reveals her darkest secrets. October 18th brings RIVALS to Disney Plus and Hulu, with Aidan Turner, David Tennant in the story about the rise of independent television in 1980s England, the rise filled with sex, scandals and battles for power. October 24th brings TERRITORY to Netflix led by Anna Torv and Sam Corlett. When a massive cattle station lacks an heir, Australia's rival factions see a chance to seize control. The land grabs threaten to destroy the declining dynasty. A day after that NAUTILUS epic adventure series hits Prime Video following Shazad Latif's Captain Nemo and his crew.

NEW MULTICAMERA SITCOMS OF OCTOBER
October also brings us a number of new multicamera sitcoms which are experiencing a revival this season. On the 17th CBS launches GEORGIE AND MANDY'S FIRST MARRIAGE which will see Montana Jordan and Emily Osment reprise their roles from Young Sheldon in a prequel series. Reba is back on television October 18th as an owner of her own bar in HAPPY'S PLACE, a new sitcom that also stars Melissa Peterman. CBS also has POPPA'S PLACE starting October 21st with Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., as a legendary talk show host named Poppa and his dreamer son.

NEW AUTUMN SERIES WITH NO DATE SET
There are also new series that will arrive this Autumn but we still have no dates for them. HBO and Sky will launch DUNE: PROPHECY sometime in November with Emily Watson and Olivia Williams as two sisters who found a mysterious sect Bene Geserit in order to protect the galaxy. PBS and BBC will probably bring us Keeley Hawes in MISS AUSTEN mini series about Jane Austen's sister, Europe will follow the Battle of Belgrade in RISE OF THE RAVEN epic series about the fearless warrior Janos Hunyadi who defeated the Ottoman Army and defended Europe in 1456. Netflix will probably give us A 100 YEARS OF SOLITUDE based on the famous classic and set in the timeless town of Macondo, where seven generations of the Buendía family navigate love, oblivion and the inescapability of their past and their fate. Over in UK Channel 5 is bringing  HARDACRES epic drama about a working class family in 1890s Yorkshire who move from a grimy fish dock to a vast country estate, and THE WIVES mini series about three sisters in law, who investigate the murder of a woman who was married to the fourth brother of their husbands and who appears at their holiday resort with a new wife. Over in France, period set series DANGEROUS FRIENDSHIP about the friendship between Anne queen of France and duchess de Chevreuse should, according to rumours, arrive sometime in September or October. I imagine that Netflix could also finally stream Italian costume drama IL GATTOPARDO about a 19th-century Sicilian aristocratic family that gets caught up in the changing sociopolitical times.

POISON WOOD BIBLE TV SERIES
You've probably noticed that Amy Adams has been working much more lately on the small screens than on the big screens, and it seems that trend will continue as she has opened a new production company and will do a new series for HBO. It will be a TV series adaptation of Barbara Kingsolver's novel POISONWOOD BIBLE in which she will play Orleanna Price, the wife of an evangelical missionary who takes her and their four daughters to the Belgian Congo in the midst of colonial upheaval in 1959. What follows is a suspenseful epic of tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction in the interlocked fates of one family and a newly independent African nation. Amy recently worked with HBO on Sharp Objects mini series.

The adaptation will be done in Spanish language
Netflix is also turning Gabriel Garcia  Marquez' classic novel ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE into mini series! It will be a Spanish language adaptation of the book that has been sold in an estimated 50 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 46 languages. As Variety reports, ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE is a sprawling story about the life, and death, of the mythical town of Macondo, told through the history of seven generations of the Buendía family over the course of a century.
