FROM NEW RUSSIAN FAIRY TALE MOVIE

Even if you have not read the story, which would be weird given that it is one of Russia's most famous fairy tales, you have probably seen the famous painting by Illya Repin of the beloved underwater tale, but now we also have the first images from the big screen movie adaptation of SADKO(Садко). The tale was previously turned into a classic movie back in 1953. The new film is set to hit theatres in March 2028. Ivan Oganesov is directing this marvelous sea adventure. The new version will have a musical tone to it as well. I will post a trailer as soon as we get one.

THE STORY OF THE FILM FOLOWS

 legendary gusli player Sadko, who, penniless but with his gusli slung over his shoulder, returns to Veliky Novgorod, the ever bustling seafaring and trade capital of Old Russia, after long wanderings. By chance, he meets Princess Lyubava and immediately falls in love. However, evil lady Glafira forces the girl to marry the wealthy tsar for a large ransom. To win his beloved's hand, Sadko makes a deal with the Sea King down in the Kingdom of the Sea. 

 WHO WILL BE IN THE CAST?

 Back in November I told you that young  Anton Rogachev was set as the lead next to Anna Peresild as the princess and Nikolai Valuev, who has been cast as a troll. Nikita Kologrivy and Elizaveta Ishchenko will play a battle sailor Buslai and a warrior Randgrid. The cast will also include Yuri Stoyanov, Roman Vasiliev, Kristina Babushkina, Alexey Dmitriev, Robert Zakharyan, Alina Babenko and other actors.

NEW FAIRY TALE MOVIE ADAPTATION

The latest of the mesmerizing Russian fairy tales to be adapted for the big screen is SCARLETT FLOWER (Аленький цветочек) which is set to star Ksenia Traister, Ivan Yankovsky, Gerda Pugachev, Sergey Bezrukov, Seraphim Goschanskaya, Konstantin Plotnikov and Julia Snigir slated to arrive to cinemas January 1st, 2028! Inspired by Sergei Aksakov's classic novel, the plot follows a merchant's daughter as she finds herself trapped in the castle of an enchanted monster prince, whose salvation depends entirely on her. I have to admit that the original animated movie from 1952 was my favourite film during my childhood.

VARVARA THE FAIR WITH THE SILKEN HAIR FAIRY TALE MOVIE ADAPTATION

Straight from the land of Russia and their endless well of enchanting folk tales, myths and legends come first images from the new big screen adaptation of their famous fairy tale VARVARA THE FAIR WITH THE SILKEN HAIR (Варвара-Краса) which should arrive into cinemas in March 2027 and has recently started shooting. Rinata Timerbaeva will play the title character, and Vitaly Kornienko will play the role of the little inhabitant of the underwater kingdom, Echo. Also starring will be the ultimate Russian superstar Alexander Petrov, Panslavic star Serbian actor Milos Bikovic, Kirill Pletnev, and Nikita Policemako in undisclosed roles to be revealed later on.

  THE STORY OF THE ENCHANTING FILM

is set in a magical, fairy tale land, where a story filled with enchantment, cunning, and true love unfolds. Tsar Yeremey promises the ruler of the underwater kingdom, Berendey, the marriage of his only son, Yelisey, to his daughter, the beautiful Princess Varvara the Beautiful. However, instead of an heir, a simple blacksmith, Andrei, arrives in the kingdom, whose fate suddenly intertwines with the underwater world. Unexpectedly, he becomes involved in events that could change the course of entire worlds. Stay tuned  as we will be keeping you posted on this one in the upcoming year.

As last month over in sweet mother Russia they have started with the production of new expensive fairy tale movie CHUDO YUDO I thought I should share the first images with you from the movie about the legendary dragon Chudo Yudo that guards the entrance into the Slavic underworld. He is a cunning shapeshifter and a master trickster, a dragon with multiple fire breathing heads. Sofia Lopunova, Mikita Voronov, Sergei Bezrukov, Victoria Isakova, our dearest Rinal Mukhametov, Alexander Semchev, Sergei Epishev and others star in the film that should land into Russian cinemas October 22nd 2026. The same team that worked on Little Humpback Horse is producing this one as well.

 

  WHAT IS THE STORY OF THE FILM?

The plot centers on Otrada (Sofia Lopunova), the daughter of powerful magicians Bolotnitsa (Viktoria Isakova) and Chernogor (Sergei Bezrukov). On Otrada's coming of age, it is discovered that she has been deprived of the magical powers she was supposed to have inherited from her parents. To remedy the situation, the young sorceress urgently needs to find a lover in the human world and marry him. Along with Otrada, her mysterious friend, Chudo-Yudo (Mikita Voronov), who can transform into anyone: a bird, an animal, and even a handsome prince, sets off into the human world.
