It has been a very long wait indeed, but Sky and MGM Plus are finally bringing us the second season of everybody's favourite Ancient Rome set series DOMINA which is returning this summer! This historical series takes place during one of the most provocative periods in Roman history following the extraordinary rise of Gaius Augustus Caesar’s (Matthew McNulty) third wife, Livia Drusilla  (Kasia Smutniak). We also have an exciting first trailer for the long awaited series and you can check it out below. The first season was MGM's best watched debut series of the year when it aired for the first time and the second season will also consist of eight brand new episodes.

DOMINA SEASON TWO

chronicles the struggle for control of the Roman Empire, and of Rome’s imperial family, from a rare female perspective. In its first season, Livia Drusilla, the golden girl of the prominent Claudii family, returned to Rome after 10 years in exile, determined to regain everything that was stolen from her. Now, atop a fractious empire and a dysfunctional dynasty, she must fight to preserve her marriage to Gaius and find a way to seat one of her sons on the throne of the empire, as new and old rivals jockey for position in a world where it’s impossible to know who to trust.

 WHO IS IN THE CAST?

David Avery will play ambitious young aristocrat Domitius, who joins Gaius’ family through marriage and proves himself to be a thorn in Livia’s side.  Joelle will be Vipsania, who refuses to play the conventional power games expected of Roman aristocratic life. She is happily married to fellow outsider, Livia’s son Tiberius, and is a force for good in his life. Tiberius has been recast with Benjamin Isaac, he is now reluctant to fulfill his mother’s ambition for him and his brother to restore the Republic. .The returning cast includes Liah O’Prey (Julia), Ben Batt (Agrippa), Ewan Horrocks (Drusus), Claire Forlani (Octavia), Darrell D’Silva (Piso), Christine Bottomley (Scribonia) and Alais Lawson (Marcella). Beside airing on Sky across Europe this Summer including Italy and Germany, the second season will also return to MGM+ from July 9 for the viewers in Northern America. On Sky in UK it will air from September 13th!

The film that follows a charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers as they undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, has a suitably godawful cast. Chris Pine stars as Elgin, a Bard, Michelle Rodriguez as Holga, a Barbarian; Regé John Peige as Xenk, a Paladin; Justice Smith as Simon, a Sorcerer; Sophia Lillis as Doric, a thieving Druid; and Hugh Grant (yes, I told you it is terrible) as Forge Fletcher, a Rogue. The big screen adaptation of the popular video game was directed by Jonathan Goldstein.

Although it was the best viewed debut series on Epix in 2021, the wait for DOMINA series season two will be long as it will start shooting in early 2023 with airing planned for the end of the next year. The series that sees Kasia Smutniak playing Livia Drusilla who helped her husband Gaius Julius Caesar (Matthew McNulty) reach and hold onto the imperial throne of Ancient Rome, will see most of the old cast returning and we can probably expect new cast announcements this Autumn. Season two will plunge us back into the intrigue and corruption of ancient Rome, as the indomitable Livia Drusilla fights to maintain her position in a world in which the quest for power is pursued at any cost. This time Livia’s hands will get very dirty, and the price will be higher than even she can imagine.
