SEE FIRST IMAGES FROM THE HARDACRES 19TH CENTURY TV SERIES AIRING THIS AUTUMN AT CHANNEL 5

   THE HARDACRES
1ST IMAGES FROM THE PERIOD SET SERIES
Channel 5 has unveiled a batch of first images from their new series coming up this Autumn (come by tomorrow for the rest), including THE HARDACRES, a sweeping rags to riches story that follows the lives, loves and fortunes of the working class Hardacre family as they move from a grimy fish dock to a vast country estate in 1890’s Yorkshire.

A SMALL SCREEN ADAPTATION OF
CL Skelton’s best-selling series of novels it follows the family of a loving married couple Mary and Sam Hardacre (Claire Cooper and Liam McMahon), who land on hard times following an accident at work on the docks, which leaves them unemployed and broke. With Julie Graham as Mary’s wily mother, Ma, and their three kids, Joe, Liza, and Harry (Adam Little, Shannon Lavelle and Zak Ford-Williams), the family band together to think fast with a business venture that will free them from their humble existence on the North Yorkshire Coast and catapult them into high society. Holly Sturton stars as Adella, Cathy Belton as Emma and Owen Roe as George, from the well to do Fitzherbert Family and new neighbours of The Hardacres. Ingrid Craigie is housekeeper Mrs Dryden, with Siobhan O’Kelly as Lena and Taheen Modak as Saunders.

  1. Haven't read anything from CL Skelton yet...not sure I would enjoy this one as the story is nothing special and then with all those tedious costumes...nothing really appeal me..well, maybe the beautiful countryside in Yorkshire.

    1. A very negative way of looking at period set dramas, deary. What people love about them, both the costumes, stories and settings, is an escape into another time and place, away from the burdens and superficialities of today's world, it is a sort of an escapism the same that goes with loving fantasy and science fiction. Historical dramas also help us understand better present times and value and appreciate more what we have today without taking it for granted. Especially in today's world where everything is instant and self-indulging not to mention ignorant, such dramas give us a view into a deeper depth of life where one values important things more than we do today. Such dramas also help us be proud of our history in which the hardworking ancestors were building the world for us.

  2. I love a good rags to riches story. When a family has the tenacity to pull themselves up and turn their lives around, you have to admire that. Can't wait to see this one!
