HISTORICAL COMEDY FOOLS
SETS QUITE A STELLAR ROYAL CAST
Mary Tudor will be played by Karen Gillan in new historical comedy FOOLS with Patsy Ferran as her court jester. Directed bu Guy Jenkin, the film is set in 1553. England’s first Queen, Mary I, takes the throne. The country is on the brink of chaos, and the ambitious Cardinal Pole (Jim Broadbent) plots to secure control. He has overlooked, however, a humble court-jester. The pious, and apparently humorless queen finds relief in her brilliant slapstick routines and they strike up an unlikely friendship. Brenda Blethyn will also star.
I like a sympathetic portrait of Bloody Mary. This is not based in a Philippa Gregory novel. Right?
ReplyDeleteIndeed not LOL Jenkin says it will be very funny and subversive. He wrote the script himself.
DeleteHistorical comedies just aren't my cuppa. I've found that historical fiction really isn't my jam either. Have tried to get into a few books from that genre lately and just couldn't.
ReplyDeleteI love historical books, but not from lady writers, they tend to make it stupid and agenda filled.
DeleteThat's probably why I've had a hard time with them lately. Stupid and agenda filled describes them perfectly.
DeleteIt is tiresome
