'PEAKY BLINDERS' BBC SERIES
CLIP WITH CILLIAN MURPHY
BBC has published the first clip from their new drama series PEAKY BLINDERS which debuts next week at BBC 2. The opening clip shows Cillian Murphy playing a leader of a gang on the lawless streets of post-war Birmingham. His gang, the Peaky Blinders, are named after their practise of sewing razor blades into the peaks of their caps and are infamous for making money from illegal betting, protection and the black market. The story follows the Peaky Blinders' battles with rival gangs, Communist revolutionaries and IRA Fenians and the arrival of a ruthless police chief from Belfast (Sam Neill).

THE TURNING TRAILER
CATE BLANCHETT, HUGO WEAVING, ROSE BYRNE, DAVID WENHAM, MIRANDA OTTO
Since it's been a very poor week in movie news, I've been trying this week to introduce you to lots of smaller films and quality dramas, and one of those is Australian omnibus movie THE TURNING made of a number of shorter dramatic stories directed by some of Australia's famous moviemakers and starring all of Oz's biggest stars Cate Blanchett (she also directs one of the stories), Rose Byrne, David Wenham, Richard Roxbourgh, Miranda Otto, Hugo Weaving, Callan Mulvey, Mia Wasikowska... Each of the 17 stories is based on a collection of short stories by Australian writer Tim Winton. The movie hits Australian cinemas later this month!
Peaky Blinders looks like it could be interesting, especially with Sam Neil involved.
ReplyDeleteyep, both him and Cillian. I probably won't watch it since I don't like crime on TV but the trailer does promise a visually great series
DeleteI like the sound of Peaky Blinders, come on the Fenians!
ReplyDeleteI knew you would like that one, Fran :)
DeleteHere here Fran!!
Deletewhat does Fenian mean exactly?
DeleteLove Cillian Murphy, so I'll watch whatever he's in. And I saw the news yesterday about Outlander. Good picks for the uncles. We're still waiting to find out who will play the female lead though!
ReplyDeleteAnd The Turning is very moody and literary feeling, based on that clip. I'll try and catch that if it hits Netflix later.
I do love Graham McTavish, such a delightful brute he is :) I expect to hear about the female role very soon! And also on who will be Flash in Arrow :)
DeleteI always remember him as Scarecrow from the Dark Knight trilogy
ReplyDeletenever heard of that disgusting trilogy....
Delete"The Turning" sounds very intriguing. Good things come from Australia!
ReplyDeletethey have the best of films, the best of actors, the best of actresses, the best of hunks and the best of beauties :)
DeletePeaky Blinders looks intriguing! That must be one scary cap to make people run like that!
ReplyDeletenope, that ain't the cop, Sam Neill is the cop, Cillian is the criminal :)
DeleteI guess it's a good thing I haven't seen Once Upon A Time yet, because as a huge Little Mermaid fan, I don't think I would be thrilled with the Prince Eric choice!
ReplyDeleteno? But he is quite dashing, maybe I couldn't find a better pic? I adored both Julian Morris and Josh Dallas as princes in the show...
DeleteOOOOHHHHH Mr. Neil sure looks dashing on that horse.
ReplyDeleteThat's Cillian Murphy, not Neil, dear :P
DeleteYou know I'll have to see Peaky Blinders. I do hope they don't portray the Fenians as evil because at that point in history we were being brutally treated.
ReplyDeleteThere is something about Cillian that tugs at me in the most peculiar way. His face, his eyes, his manner make me weep with the greatest of sadness. He reminds me of what it is to be Irish, the pain, the poetry, the music, the past and the present reside within his person. I have never been so affected by an actor.
Hope the series will teach the rest of us some history, dear, I know next to nothing about that topic.
DeleteOh so much fun stuff is coming this fall. Here in the states, I'm subscribing to Comcast cable's X-1 and I can't wait for my install on September 12th. It's going to make television viewing a pure pleasure.
ReplyDeletewhat is that, Michael, that Comcast?
DeleteThe Turning looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll ever catch up with the TV series. There are many good ones to watch and I miss them.
I'm the opposite, I never can find enough good shows to watch :) Most are not my cup of tea....
Deletei am late and i am giggling...
ReplyDeletegiggle away! A giggle a day keeps the doctor away.... and the sexy nurses too.....
DeleteRazor blades in their caps....nasty habit.
ReplyDeletenasty indeed
DeleteSo many of these actors, I don't know.
ReplyDeleteand I report only on a small number of them....
DeleteSo many stars. My goodness.
DeleteI yam here. Too tired to make an intelligent comment, but I'm here.
ReplyDeletemuch appreciated, Suz :)
Deletewhen are they going to do the remake of PSYCHO! LOL!
ReplyDelete[while in drag, screaming] I'm Norma Bates!
they did have a film with Anthony Hopkins recently on the shooting of psycho.
DeleteJust saw the first episode of Peaky Blinders...brilliant show! Can't wait to see the second eps next week :)
