BRILLIANT NEW CAST PICTURES
ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND FANTASY SHOW
Since we haven't had much news from Hollywood this week, we're focusing today on some delightful new television projects, starting with the beautiful cast pictures of ABC's new fantasy series ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND the spin-off show to their popular drama ONCE UPON A TIME. The story of the brand new show is set in Victorian England, where young and beautiful Alice (Sophie Lowe) tells an impossible tale of a strange new land that exists on the other side of a rabbit hole. An invisible cat, a hookah-smoking caterpillar and playing cards that can talk, are just some of the fantastic things she’s seen during her adventure. Surely this troubled girl must be insane. Her doctors intend to cure her with a treatment that will make her forget — everything. Alice seems ready to put it all behind her, especially the painful memory of the genie she fell in love with and lost forever, the handsome and mysterious Cyrus (Peter Gadiot). But in her heart Alice knows this world is real, and just in the nick of time the sardonic Knave of Hearts (Michael Socha) and the irrepressible White Rabbit (John Lithgow) arrive to save her from her fate. Together the trio will take a tumble down the rabbit hole to a Wonderland where nothing is impossible.
Ready to hit small screens on October 10th, ONCE UPON A TIME IN
WONDERLAND will also have Emma Rigby as the Red Queen, Naveen Andrews as
Jafar, while Keith David will lend his voice to Chesire Cat with Iggy
Pop giving his voice to the hookah smoking caterpillar perched on a
giant shroom and with John Lithgow as the White Rabbit!'
DELIGHTFUL 'DEREK' SITCOM
WITH RICKY GERVAIS
Another delightful project which you can already watch over at Netflix is DEREK, which begun streaming last week starring famous British comedian Ricky Gervais who is also the creator of this comedy-drama about a loyal nursing home caretaker who sees only the good in his quirky co-workers as they struggle against prejudice and shrinking budgets to care for their elderly residents! Capturing both sadness and humour of such a place, the sitcom is filled with kind and light humour and is rather unusual in today's world of offensive sitcoms and brutal comedy.
'LAST TANGO IN HALIFAX'
DEREK JACOBI & ANNE REID
Yet another delightfully kind and warm show can be seen over at PBS where last week they started airing LAST TANGO IN HALIFAX, an uplifting comedy-drama about romance and second chances. Childhood sweethearts Alan (Derek Jacobi) and Celia (Anne Reid), both widowed and in their 70s, fall for each other all over again when they are reunited after nearly 60 years. The celebratory tale of the power of love at any age is also a story about family — a family with baggage. Alan and Celia's daughters, whose dysfunctional lives bring drama at every turn, would never dream of getting in the way of their parents' happiness. But somehow they just can't help themselves.
I'm not a PBS fan, but Last Tango does look interesting.
ReplyDeleteit's a very cute heartwarming series, one of those that are good for you when all your ships have sunk...
DeleteI have Typecast Derek Jacobi!
ReplyDeleteI keep seeing him as he was in Doctor Who, The Master.
I usually see him as Claudius :)
DeleteHis age I guess throws me off.
DeleteLike Sean Connery I don't see as 007 anymore.
I hope you are watching him in VICIOUS, the new sitcom in which he and Ian McKellen play and old gay couple :) The two of them are delightful in it
DeleteThis Alice series looks good, the questions about her sanity in the real world are quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteI see you found Derek. It is wonderful isn't it.
I haven't seen it yet, dear, but I liked the trailer and the comments over at YouTube and what you said about it!
DeleteI cried and laughed at the same time. He had two points he wanted to drive home. The true value of a human should be measured in their ability to be kind. Not by their looks, their wealth or their achievements. Secondly when we turn away from the elderly and see only the outside, we don't even think about the lives they led. We think that old age is something that only happens to other people. I think we're afraid to face our own futures so we tend to look away.
Deletethose are such beautiful and also sad two points, darling. I fully agree with the first one, and when it comes to the second one we often think the same about most other people, not just old ones. We base our opinion on small things they did or said, not on the type of lives they have had.
DeleteThis is why I, as a psychologist, always try to understand the whole lives of people and then build up the bigger picture.
Most of us do base our opinions of people on just the most superficial of things. And those are the things they want us to notice. I have made such a mistake in my life. I have elevated those who do not deserve to be elevated and sadly have dismissed some who are of great value. As emotional as I can be, it takes so much self control to do as you do. Often I am not capable of it.
Deleteelevating the wrong ones is one of my problems too, Anne! I was even told once by an astrologist that my life will move forward only when I learn not to pay attention to undeserving people. It is difficult for me, since I give importance to everyone....
DeleteYes, I saw on PBS that "Last Tango in Halifax" has started -- I didn't watch it but now maybe I will -- the trailer looks good!
ReplyDeleteI think I will too! I love such charming series, especially with older people. AS TIME GOES BY with Judi Dench is still my favourite comedy series of all times :) and it had similar story.
DeleteI love As Time Goes By. There has always been something soothing for me in watching it.
Deleteto me as well, dear, it wraps me in such warmth whenever I'm feeling blue and it is so inspiring and heartwarming. It reminds me that, even though I don't know it, a lovely world exists somewhere out there....
DeleteThat's it for me too. I can believe that there is a place still left on this earth that is governed by the simplest of things. True love that is accepting and pleasure in the simplest of things.
Deleteyep, I love it when Judi and her old lover enjoy a tea together or cook dinner in her kitchen or when they go out to his cottage in the village. Such a delightful sitcom it is.... And it has such an unimposing humour, I wish we still lived in such a world, dear...
DeleteDerek is already on my queue. As soon as I catch up on Breaking Bad, I'm there!
ReplyDeleteI also have it on my list! :)
DeleteCan ya dig it, yes... yes I can!
ReplyDeletewell how could you possibly not, I ask you, how could you possibly not?
Deletei dig the fantasy stuff... thank you for always bringing it to us on a silver plate.
Deletefantasy and history are what HOLLYWOOD SPY is known across the galaxy! We'll actually have a very cool new historical show announced tomorrow :)
Deletehard to believe how many netflix originals are churning out.
ReplyDeletethey're churning them out big time
DeleteI'm so glad you shared Derek with us. I haven't been on Netflix in about two weeks so I haven't seen it yet. That's something I will surely enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAnnzie recommended it to us, she loves it!
DeleteOnce upon a time in wonderland looks rather good.
ReplyDeletewe will certainly give it a try :)
DeleteThat's a romantic version of Alice in Wonderland. I can't wait to watch it.
ReplyDeletewe shall give it a go next Month :) Hope it doesn't disappoint after a few episodes like ONCE UPON A TIME
DeleteThose are some great pictures of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland!
ReplyDeletethey are, aren't they?
DeleteThe Wonderland show sounds (and looks) intriguing, but Derek sounds like a show to steal my heart. We don't do NetFlix (gasp!) but with shows like this available, we may have to reconsider. The last show sounds delightful.
ReplyDeleteI knew you would like the last one best, dear! Hope you manage to view them somehow, maybe when they get to DVD?
DeleteOnce upon a time in wonderland great trailer Dezmond .
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked that one, Vincent, it sure does have great visuals
DeleteMy niece and I are anxiously awaiting Once Upon A Time In Wonderland! Can't wait for it to start!
ReplyDeletehope it won't be too dark for the kids!
DeleteNaveen Andrews will be perfect as Jafar.
ReplyDeletethe rest of the cast seems nice too!
DeleteLast Tango trailer is so delightful and sweet ~ Have to check out that Derek as hubby is always on netflix ~ Happy day Dezzy, smiles ~
ReplyDeleteglad you liked that one, Grace, it is a true delight and I wish we had more shows like that one!
DeleteThose Wonderland pics look enchanting. It's one of my favorite stories and I love seeing various incarnations of it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will enjoy the show when it starts, Medeia
DeleteSome stuff here that I'll have to give a watch. Thanks for the post and I hope things are warming up over there. Burrrr, that did sound cold.
ReplyDeletestill cold :) But I like cold weather, it's just that it came so suddenly. On Monday I went to the town in flipflops and shorts since it was 32*C and on Tuesday it was already 8* at night.
DeleteI know you do love the cold weather darling. But you do live in a place with grand buildings and such whose beauty is enhanced by snow, ice and crisp clear air. That doesn't exist in the States and we certainly don't have it in Ireland either.
DeleteI'm not complaining about the cold weather :) The only problem about it is heating which is abnormaly expensive here. We pay around 250 euro per month for gas heating and our average salaries are around 400 euro :(
DeleteI dunno Anne - I live in the country and it's beautiful here in the winter. Actually, all the seasons, but I'm a country girl :-)
DeletePS: The autumns are amazing, as well.
we do love golden Autumns
DeleteAren't they nice? I miss the harvest moon this past week, darn. I wanted to snag a picture.
DeleteI've noticed the full moon too, I usually go for a walk around my yard at 9pm when I finish my work, and last few evenings I didn't even have to turn on the lights outiside.... the moonlighting was strong enough
DeleteI'm going to have to check out Derek. I could use a lighthearted comedy right now. :)
ReplyDeleteyou really could, dear! Hope the things are getting better in Colorado! We miss you a lot!
Deleteonce upon a time in Wonderland looks like something I'd enjoy.
ReplyDeletehope you will, Marcy
DeleteI can understand why they've given the show the title of ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND, but boy that's a mouthful!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteThe show looks good though. I like the costumes :)
it certainly is :) Maybe WONDERLAND would've been enough
DeleteHmm, the trailer for Wonderland isn't as intriguing as I'd hoped; but I think it still might be worth a viewing. I've been surprised by so-so previews before. The mental health take on this is a bit cliche, but I like the speculative feel. I'm not sure I'll like it, and I think it will have a very slow start, but I'll probably watch at least the first season before I make a decision on the series.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dezzy.
......dhole
I think you will probably more enjoy DEREK and LAST TANGO IN HALIFAX, Donnzie
